You can also take a regular taxi to Medano beach. We walked, it was quite a distance. We took the water taxi back and was not pleased to have to climb up a makeshift ladder to the concrete pier. Very uncomfortable. I will walk next time or get a regular cab.

A lot of cruisers, short on time in Cabo and wanting a cheaper and more flexible do-it-yourself kayaking trip than the ship excursion, rent kayaks on Medano Beach and paddle out to Lover's Beach and El Arco, where both the paddling and the snorkeling can be great. If you want a great place to rent kayaking and snorkel gear on Medano Beach, stand by the water facing Billygan's Island (the popular restaurant and beach club), and with your back to the bay, spy out the palapa-style kayak-rental kiosk immediately to the left of Billygan's. Then, GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. One of two snorkel sets we rented there was missing the plug by the mouthpiece (so was useless), which we didn't realize (why would we?) until we were across the bay...later, they wanted US to pay THEM for it. Also, most kayaks have drain plugs. Both the kayaks we rented from these guys had the drain holes, but no working plugs -- on one, there was a plug, but it didn't screw in; on the other, there was no plug, just an old cracked bottle cork. Adventurous? You bet. Amusing? Not so much when you have two nine-year-olds with you who are mediocre swimmers. Luckily, the drain holes being high on the hulls and sea conditions being calm that day, we didn't get the pleasure of testing out their life vests. Don't be fooled by these guys' competitive rental rates, or by the sweet little old man by the water making the pitch: the rates can't be that much higher down the beach, and that sweet little old man is a front for the young, sleazy, cool-shades-wearing owner lurking out of sight until you come back and mention that the snorkel was half missing.

If my 73 year old mother, whom I've never seen buzzed in my 43 years of life, can down 1.2 margaritas at The Office, swim in Playa Medano in her white pants (thank God she was wearing neutral undies), get a Bart Simpson tattoo (no recollection), and hop on a water taxi back to the pier, you should have no problems. It does/did make for a great story but just make sure the older gang is drinking something that hasn't been distilled in a bathtub.
