BCSmallTownGirl Posted January 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Is it a big deal if you have a cabin where the windows don't open? I know that many cabins are like this, so obviously it is ok, but I was wondering how much airflow there is? I just don't want it to be stuffy - I am big on having windows open and fresh air ;)

cb at sea Posted January 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Windows NEVER open on ships! Only doors open! There is AC or heat vents into each cabin, so you do have "air flow". Even with a balcony, an open balcony door only sucks the air from the cabin...doesn't actually blow into the room!

I just am concerned about the room being stuffy. So, having the doors open doesn't really bring outside air into the rooms? Good to know!
paul929207 Posted January 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Most (if not all) ships have individually controlled air conditioning/heating in every cabin.
ldubs Posted January 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Opening your balcony doors would be the same as opening patio doors or a window in a hotel room. You will get a breeze but not a tremendous amount of cross ventilation. For an inside or oceanview, you can control the temp, but you won't be experiencing any "breezes". I've not found them stuffy but your mileage may vary. BTW, I've never encountered a problem adjusting a room's temp, though you can be sure it has happened. feathersandnananose Posted January 8, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2018 I am also a "fresh air when I sleep" nut, and, though some hotels (with their sealed windows and noisy HVACs) have driven me nuts, I've been in ocean views and inside cabins and NEVER had a problem. There always seems to be "fresh" air - no stuffiness. And "they" say you shouldn't leave your balcony doors open, because it causes trouble with air pressure in the room for the HVAC and other cabins could be negatively affected.
