Can't wait to hear from you "LIVE" on Jewel. We sailed on Jewel in October from Boston to the eastern caribbean and Bermuda. We loved Bermuda. It was a great cruise. I especially enjoyed the Windjammer on this ship. What made Jewel unusual was that we could choose our own meat, poultry, or fish and have it cooked in front of us in the Windjammer. I loved all the different stations and the variety of seating areas--from indoor dining to semi indoor/outdoor area with wicker, and our favorite dining area in the rear of the ship. We loved eating out there in the evenings watching the wake, the moon, and the stars.

My only complain about Jewel is the fact that a nonsmoker with asthma has to walk thru the smoke filled Schooner Bar to get to the Safari Lounge to watch karoeke, Captains Night, Quest, and other events--like playing pool. Chops & Portofinos also have to be entered by walking thru the Schooner Bar. Why in the world this Bar is designated a smoking bar simply puzzles me. Very poor planning. Smoking Bars should be at either end of a ship so nonsmokers can avoid them--not right in the middle of all the activities onboard. RCCL ships have that one problem in common.

Thats great Radio! I tuned into your live trip report from the Mariner...you left a few months before we did. Now I am considering sailing on the Jewel next so your review will be very helpful. It will be wonderful to know your feelings about the comparisons of the two ships as well.

Have a great time, I look forward to the review!

Radio - Can't wait for your "live" reports from the Jewel. We did the transatlantic on her from Harwich to Boston and loved the ship. So much so that we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary on the Jewel March 5th. Take good care of her for us!;)

Can't wait to read your postings. We sailed Jewel from Boston to Bermuda and the Caribbean in October and loved the ship. Our favorite spot was the aft area behind the Windjammer dining outdoors under the stars. We loved this Windjammer buffet more than any other RCCL ship because we could select our own fish, meat, or poultry and watch them cook it--always served nice and hot the way we like it. This Windjammer has so many areas for dining both indoors and outdoors and areas in between. Great design. We also enjoyed having lunch in the Seaview Cafe. Great views sitting outdoors.

The Safari Lounge is absolutely gorgeous--the leveling pool tables are cool too. We enjoyed sitting in that area watching sports on the two flat screen televisions. My only complaint about the ship is that you must walk thru the smoke filled Schooner Bar to get to Portofinos, Chops, and the Safari Lounge (for Captains Reception, Kareoke, Quest).

The solarium on Jewel is fantastic. We loved the sandwich wraps at their bar area and the indoor pool is gorgeous.

Have a great cruise.

Radio...........I too, will enjoy following your "live" reports. My DW and I will be aboard at the end of April for a transatlantic crossing. We have heard so many wonderful things about the Radiance class that we are counting the days............

We have an OS, 2nd behind the RS on the hump. We know that our forward vision will be a bit obstructed. Hopefully not too much although!

Enjoy your cruise!

Radio,

Bon Voyage! I trust you'll have a wonderful time!

Hope you get a chance to take a picture of a menu or two from the dining room. We are on the Jewel in March and I am interested in how the menu items have changed since our last cruise in 2004.

Safe travels, and thanks for keeping us all posted!

Hi Radio

If you get a chance, could you let me know if you hear any feedback on the WiFi on the ship? I'm bringing my laptop in Feb., and hoping to use the WiFi, rather than the Cybercabin (slow speed). Thanks!

It's amazing how some come from the UK to cruise here, and we fly over there for our adventures. We did the Legend out of Southampton to the Canary Islands in May of last year, and this year we look forward to cruising out of Fort Lauderdale to England and then the Baltic.

Somehow, we need to work together to be able to work on round trip airline tickets, that we can use one way and our UK neighbors can use the other way.

Dream on Rick!;)

Radio - Your live reports are amazing! I was reading one from the Mariner a couple of years ago, and ended up booking on her as a result! We're trying to decide between another trip on the Mariner and trying out the Jewel in February, so I'll especially enjoy your comparisons of these two ships. We have two children 10 and almost 13, so please share your observations regarding children on the Jewel vs. the Mariner (number of kids, things to do, etc.).

Thanks and Bon Voyage!!

Hello everyone...I am currently onboard the beautiful Jewel of the Seas !

It is a very nice day..Sunny, a little cool ( 66F )...But the weather should warm up for the rest of the week.

I left the hotel at about 10:30am...I arrived at the port at about 10:45. I parked in the garage, then walked right in to the Terminal 25. I was whisked right through the check in process, and boarded the ship right at 11AM. It was very very quick ! I was very impressed. They separated the Diamond -Suite guests before the Security Check in and it was just a few minutes till I was on the Ship....

I had a very difficult time setting up Cybercabin...Its still not set up. Currently I am connected with My Cell Phone, and Mobile Office Kit. I will try to contact Guest Services later.

At first glance, the ship appears overwhelming....it is gorgeous. I have visited many areas of the ship..and will visit many more as the week goes on. I will share many of the areas with you. It is very impressive.

The Muster Drill will begin shortly....then sailaway is at 5 PM. There is alot to do today... ( I really need to get this CyberCabin connection working)

Here are a few pics from today...I will post lots more later...I will try to increase the resolution on future posts....

Thanks for tuning in !

Radio- thanks for the great pictures! I can't wait to see and hear more of your trip. I am from your neck of the woods- right here in Ocean Pines, just outside of Ocean City MD. I lived in Towson for 27 years then moved to Eldersburg for about 4 yrs before moving down here. If you could please take a few pictures of the dining room and kids area if you have time. I would like to try a cruise on a Radiance class ship after my trip on the freedom. I thank you in advance. I have something to look forward to now for the rest of the week. It also looks like a beautiful day- not a cloud in the sky from what I can see. Hope it continues. Have a wonderful week. :)

I hope you like the Jewel.

Took her over to the US in September and it was a great cruise.

If you have access to the Concierge Lounge please let us know who is the concierge.

You are going to Costa Maya - our itinerary was altered and we have a port of call there.

Please report what kind of shore excursions are worth thinking about there at the moment.

Thank you and enjoy.
