John Heald just posted on facebook that there will be no more complimentary room service between 10pm and 6am. Menu prices will be $2-$6. He said this is being done because of food waste.

And then he wants us to tip them one to $2 in addition. I know I'm going to get flamed for this and I don't care. I guess the tip money will be going to food now.

Takes forever to get pizza late at night these days. Once they charge for room service line will get even longer.

Also the only time we usually get room service is debarkation morning where we get a quick breakfast and head off the ship.

The cutbacks never stop

I thought the same thing actually... but wonder if they are going to add on the 18% too? I mean the $2 per item? My fiancee gets cereal and milk for his midnight snack... that could get costly for something we thought was going to be free when we booked.

get it in the morning and put it in your fridge till night ,or bring a box with you from home

Now a little planning will be required. Go by the deli before getting ship-faced and stick a couple sandwiches in the refer for my midnight snack!

I'll flame you too. If you can't afford to tip, don't order room service. Get your happy PJ'ed butt out of the room and go get your own food for free.

This is like people who don't tip the pizza delivery driver because they have to pay a delivery fee, even though that fee is not passed on to the driver.

That's fine, but if they're charging an additional fee late night, the service time better improve!

I'm not picky, but when I finish up a long night at the casino, I always like something to eat. The pizza line is always ridiculously long, and the ice cream machines are always out of service late at night (even though they are advertised as 24/7 option). Last cruise, I was saved by the little boxes of cereal already being out on Lido Buffet!

I sure hope John is right that they are increasing staffing at the pizza place!

Bummer for me. Late night isn't an issue. I daily request coffee before 6:00 am from room service.

I know it's usually not available at Lido buffet areas because I have tried that route. I have tried many times and am very familiar with little signs saying sorry, coffee machine is being cleaned.

Eliminating early morning free coffee from room service is pathetic.

10pm is FAR too early and 6am isn't early enough. I could see 12am to 4 or 5am.

Based on his original explanation of food waste, how many people are wasting food at 4 or 5am?

We usually don't get back into the cabin until midnight or so and we always order a chicken salad sandwich, as well as a BLT. Nothing ever gets wasted.

I am very glad to see Carnival implementing this. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 22 years and by far one our biggest expenses is the wasted food from our free breakfast bar. It is simply amazing to see the food thrown away on a daily basis. Just because it is paid for with your room, there is no need to be wasteful.

Grabbing in the morning is a great idea! Will do that:) as for bringing with us.... ummm it was thought of in price we paid for in cruise thanks!:) As well, already bringing one of (twins) my two years old food for whole cruise.... so not adding in binging on more food.

As long as I can still get my midnight sweet potato fries I don't care, was paying for those anyway.

Not happy about this one bit. This is one of the perks I have enjoyed in the past with my family. BTW, we tipped and NEVER ordered food that we couldn't eat.

I'll flame you, what a pathetic thought. You are going to punish a room service attendant, it's not his or her fault. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are probably the same person who stiffs a server for a meal improperly prepared

You can say what you want but it's not my fault either

No coffee on debarkation morning while you dress!

I agree 100%. I could have sworn that 24 hour a day complimentary room service was included with my cruise when I booked and paid for it! :(:(:(

I can understand why this is happening. In the past I’ve ordered room service at night and it takes so long to get delivered that I’m ready to go to bed and not in the mood to eat anymore. We solved that by stopping by the buffet when they have bread, cheese, salami, and fruit out and taking a bit back to the room. Then have a midnight snack ready to go when we are ready to eat it and no additional fees.

You make a really good point; if we've already got our cruise paid for then they technically broke contract terms.

Then you aren't the problem. I see so much waste all over the ship, it's disgraceful. I am glad Carnival is at least trying to do something. I am sorry to see room service debarkation morning gone. We'll just have to walk to Lido to get our morning coffee.

I agree. I understand the reasoning. But I was looking forward to ordering room service later in the night. I like ordering sandwiches and hot chocolate, lol...

To anyone who really believes that charging for late night room service due to food waste is the real reason for this, I know of a very nice bridge, hardly ever used, over the Hudson River that is for sale at a very reasonable price.

Carnival should start with the food wasted from the buffet. Most of the food is terrible! Last year I tried the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were like hockey pucks! There is so much food on the buffet that people take and than have to throw away because of it's quality. If Carnival serves sub par food, they are part of the waste problem.

Carnival should have placed a limit on the items each stateroom could order from room service, so I do agree that waste is not the only reason why this change is taking place. Also, let's not forget about the reduced tv stations and new delivery charges for fun shop orders!

I guess all the big boys at Carnival are making decisions to fill their own pockets while us cruisers will be researching different options.

How sad is this! We are not too far from picnic tables, benches, and plastic utensils.
Yes we are. What you've written is nonsense.

What paragraph?

Because you can't order it from room service. That was a morning ritual we always had.

I can definitely see why no more room service the morning of debarkation. This way people have to get out of their cabins if they want to eat (and hopefully will do so early and then leave right from Lido deck), and a lot less mess for the Room Stewards to clean up when turning over the cabins. With less manpower, any way they can streamline the process, the better. It should help them to be able to work more efficiently and get the cabins ready sooner. Well one can only hope. I never understood why they allowed room service that morning anyway. There's so much going on already. Now you have delivery people running around, and more dirty dishes and food to clean up. I think it makes perfect sense.

Amazing the belly aching about a $1 or $2 tip to room servers from some of the same people that have no issue purchasing a several hundred dollar drink package (and many do it cuz they can try everything then WASTE it if they dont like it cuz they already spent money on it). If your budget is that tight or you cannot see the logic in all that wasted food left on trays all night then perhaps your budget cannot afford a cruise.

Many of you sound entitled and ridicules and if this is going to bother you then dont use it, great about cruises or any other vacation, it is a choice, turn the channel!!!

All that food on trays you see every morning sitting there (from the during the night orders) waiting to be picked up is wasted food, period!!!

No coffee on debarkation morning while you dress!

Last time, I just went to the Lido deck and got coffee. My wife needs it pretty ASAP, and I am not one to assume room service will be faster than motivated-me.

But...we wouldn't be getting up before 6am anyway...so this is somewhat of a moot point for us, regarding "early-morning" coffee.

I do need to remember to grab some cheese and meats and whatnot earlier in the day from the Lido buffet for a late-night snack...we like that at home, so I'm sure we'd like it cruising!

You do know that CCL is a business right? A for profit business and if this cruise line does not meet your vacation standards then please do not hesitate to find alternative vacation idea's. Eventually food waste among other things would be considered a waste of funds and as they are doing very well as a company I am not sure it will matter in the long run if some whined about this change.

Again, cruising is a choice like all other vacation options and the choice is yours.
