Weather in Late April, early May on Miami to Montreal voyage

Hi,

Has anyone experience of vagaries of weather for this cruise, at the end of April, beginning of May. Especially interested in conditions after leaving Charleston. Wondering what to pack for doing walking tours, New York, Boston, and the Canadian Ports.

Tried searching but my search parameters came up with too many general threads on weather.

I would be very grateful for any help, hate being cold and not equipped to enjoy outdoors.

Look forward to replies.

Hi

Your best bet would be to wait for week before your cruise, then check "long range weather" on the internet for each of your port of calls. That way you will have access to the best guess that current technology can provide, before you pack. Otherwise, I can tell you that (at least for the Canadian ports) since it is spring and the weather will be variable. So it could be freezing or you could get temperatures in the low 80's. Also, more likely than not you will have some rain. There's my prediction, I am sure I will be right most of the time. :)

hope this helps

have a great cruise

CruiserBruce has it right as usual.

We use a site like weatherunderground.com to look up historical highs and lows (average) but we realize these are only averages. We use this to begin the packing list. Then a few days we before the trip we finalize our packing by looking at the forecast. Spring and Fall are very tricky in these locations as there could be a big swing in the actual temperature from the average.

Weather is unpredictable.

We did a similar cruise a few years ago from Ft Lauderdale to Montreal -- same time of the year.

Once we got out of Florida, temperatures were on the chilly side -- all the way to Montreal. In Montreal we had 4 days of heavy rain and it was quite chilly. We dressed in layers.

End of April/beginning of May can still be cool in Montreal and don't forget that your cruise will take you a little north of Montreal until you reach that port, so the weather could be chilly. Also don't forget that we use the metric system (Celsius) for our temperature readings. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, double the number and add 30. For example, if you see that it will be 5 degress Celcius, double that 5 to 10 and then add 30 to get a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. So pack a jacket and some rain gear and have a wonderful time up here in our beautiful country.

Ottawa has had snow in May. Layers required. I like wunderground.com for actual recorded historical temperature and precipitation recordings. Go to the city of choice, choose 'calendar' and then you can choose April or May and go back a few years. Seas will have been cold for months, and air will still be predominately from the Arctic, so temps onboard a moving ship is going to feel colder than city warmed by sun heated asphalt and buildings. Of course, check the forecasts the week before, but even a pair of thin gloves would not be amiss.
