Jade mini review Jan 26 revised southern Caribbean.

Left Miami Hilton downtown at 10 am with an $8.00 uber ride about 8 min to the port. 10 min to get thru security walked in to the priority boarding for suites/ haven and received our cards and wisked up stairs where I thought we would wait again but we were on the ship at 1050with Omar greeting us and sent to Cagney's for lunch and a drink or two lol.

We explored the ship after lunch and our room (penthouse aft with lg balcony) was ready by 1pm. So first impression was balcony was excellent deep and wide more than enough room for two loungers two chairs and a table. As for the rest of the room I was not overly impressed not enough storage and smaller bathroom than I would have thought BUT I can only compare to the haven. The one other time I did not stay in the haven was two weeks ago when I went on the Epic in a mini suite. Balcony was smaller on the mini of course but there was tons of storage on the epic and we'll everyone know the bathroom situation on the epic!

At any rate my feeling is even though the jade was refurbished about a year ago I think she looks tired. However that didn't stop me from having a wonderful time.

We ate in every venue except le bistro and Grand Pacifica. Cagney's and Teppinyaki were superb. Moderno and La cucina were good. O Sheehans was OK and the buffet not so good only because I never found anything to be hot even when they just brought out a new pan of something. I found the menu in the main dining room pretty boring and service was rather slow.

Drinks were never hard to find or get quick service and we're great.

Our Butler Carlos and concierge Omar were fantastic. Room steward Oscar was good too.

Activities were pretty limited from what I am used to but as I went to relax and have beach time that didn't bother me.

The casino....well as you will know from my earlier review I won a substantial amount on the epic two weeks ago. I didn't lose on the jade but no huge wins lol I will say the machines were mostly the old reel machines and none that I had really seen before. I played mostly black Jack. Again though I think the casino needs an update! But the staff sure made up for it. All friendly and happy.

Bars and lounges. Never a problem to get a drink always remembered my name.

Overall impressions. I would go on the jade again if the price was right but I wouldn't say I would love to go on her again.

Questions I'll be happy to answer!

Thank you for the review! Thoughts on the ports? We will be on this same itinerary in March. Can you comment on the suite breakfast/lunch menu? Was it the older version or the newer one? What about entertainment on the sea days.... I've seen the Canvas By U stuff posted- was this offered that you noticed?

I've been to Jamaica and grand Cayman several times. I do love grand Cayman. Jamaica the locals are more aggressive everytime I stop there but if you haven't been before it can be a nice port and goalmouth is so much nicer than Montgomery bay. Loved loved the ABC's especially if you snorkel or dive.

Breakfast and lunch was served in modernos. It was the same every day. Breakfast was small buffet of pastry cereal fruit cheese and meats. French press coffee. Menu was nice and typical of what you can get for breakfast and I believe it is still the old menu. I think we tried everything on the menu once. Lol.

Canvas by u was offered a few times during the cruise.

Thanks for your review. We will be on her in 5 weeks. I'm curious about the entertainment. Did you go to any of the production shows? And was there much live entertainment on board, especially in the evening?
There were blazing boots and elements both very good. A comedian a couple nights and always live singers in at least two venues per night. A variety of music to please everyone.

Hi Yummybakery,

Were there any ballroom dancing sessions scheduled during your trip? How was the live band, did they play any tunes that are dance-able during a regular evening? We sailed on her awhile ago, and there was a lady called Gabi who was teaching the dance lessons during sea days and she was very good. I wonder if she is still on the jade!

Thanks.

I remember there was salsa and cha cha lessons scheduled. There were a lot of duos that had dance able music in the lounges and most days a live band played on the lido that a lot of couples danced to with a huge variety of music. I don't know about Gabi sorry

Thanks for sharing! We went on the Jade the first first cruise after her dry dock and thought she looked beautiful. I’m surprised that she already has that tired look and feel. We loved Omar! He was amazing at anticipating needs and was super nice!
Hands down Omar is the best concierge I have experienced!

We were on that same sailing. I thought the public areas were fine but our Haven cabin was pretty beat up with some broken items and maintenance issues.

which haven cabin were you in? How were the refurbished haven areas? How was your butler?

We will be in 14506 in March....

The refurbished haven areas were great. Our butler was outstanding. Some of the cabin doors to the suites were open in the area that you will be andwhen we walked by they looked in tip top shape. We were on another deck in a cabin that has Haven access so it probably won't apply to you so no worries.

  • 3 months later...

There are not any non smoking tables that I saw. I think it helped that the cigar lounge is just outside the casino. I didn't feel the smoke was an issue in the casino but I'm not overly sensitive to smoke so I'm probably not the best judge.
