We used our referral rewards to pay for some shore excursions. We booked the excursions we wanted and then called the help number to have the reward amount taken off our bill.

I know you can do this with OBC (on board credits) but I was under the impression from reading the Referral Awards could not be used for anything except booking a cruise.

 

Perhaps Viking will step in here and clarify this for us.
