Has anybody ever really won in the Casino?

Recommended Posts

I'm talking about playing the Slot Machines......I've always heard that the Cruise Lines count on the Casino revenue to help them make their quota for each sailing.

So, has anyone ever really won a substantial amount from playing the slots?

I once won $2500 many years ago on the Viking Seranade. They gave me a shirt and took a Polaroid of me. That money is long gone!

Seems like in the last two years, I cannot win anything on the slots, but a few years ago, it was common place that on the first night of the cruise I would play for a few minutes, make $50 or so in my first few pulls and then I would take my winnings and walk, never returning to the casino that cruise. I did this for 3 cruises in a row. It seemed to me like they were programmed to pay out on night one. Then it just dried up, slots have not done that for me in the last 3 cruises. Since you have to enter your sail and sign to play and there are no laws governing casino's at sea, they could easily be throttling someone with playing habits such as mine. Not saying that is what is happening, just that it is possible. Could just be good luck and then bad luck.

Does anyone ever admit they lost in a casino? It seems someone wins, or breaks even or? I have been to Vegas about 40 times and will admit I am a looser there, but never lost more than I went with. Lost about $100 on the Paradise in Feb, playing some tables and some machines.

Yes, my first cruise in 2009 on the fascination, I won a jackpot of $5000 on a 50 cent bet. I went on to win another 2500 during that 5 day cruise (one of them being 500 in the slot tournament)...walked off the ship with about 7300 in cash.

A few years later, I won 2000 on one of those long pull tab tickets they sell and over 1000 on a slot the next day on a 1.35 bet.

2 years ago my mom won over 3000 on the quick hits.

On other cruises I have lost some and sometimes break even.

You definitely can win and I do see many people win while I am in the casino

I've never won anything substantial. Maybe $100 here and there. I've definitely lost more than I've won! Last month on the dream, I had this same question. I watched as others played and most were going Max bet all the time. Does this make a difference?

$9186.16 on a 68 cent pull last April on the Sunshine. They wanted me to take it in cash, but we ended up agreeing I would take $1186.16 in cash and they would sent me a check for the balance which I received 7 days after the cruise by FedEx.

Wife won $2000 last year. Two or three years ago, while we were in the casino, a lady won $25,000. The casino took her picture holding a very, very big check with her name on it.

Casino’s on ships follow the same rules as Nevada and there is a cruise association that they all belong to. If you played a few years ago there is no merit to the claim that you win more on the first night or any night. Machines are set at the factory at a win percentage requested by owner of the machine. It is the #1myth of slot machines that they can be changed by the casino. All this info is readily available on the internet. Just look up Random Number Generator.

We allot a certain amount every cruise. Some cruises we lose everything we bring. Some cruises we double what we bring. With everything averaged out, we've not lost or gained anything. That's why I can say we broke even. Keep in mind, I'm only referencing the cruise casino. Now if you want to talk about our gambling results over our lifetime...suffice it to say that the house DOES always win.

I don't play slots. I tend to lose at them. My ex would always make money at slots in Vegas. She might spend $20 on a trip, but would always hit at least $100+. Biggest was just under $400.

I play blackjack and are ahead both cruising and Vegas. I do not bet big. I play for fun.

Two cruises. First one lost $100 on the cruise. Last one, won $220.

Vegas, I am 7 or 9 on winning. Winning between $100 and $900 on a trip. The two losing, one was $100, the other was about $400 (we chased the losses, and learned to not do that).

I have paid for a couple of cruises with casino winnings. My cruise to Alaska it seemed I could not lose. Won 1000.00 on slots, 2200.000 at the craps table, and an Ipadwith 500.00 cash from the stupid key machine.

When I won on the key machine I was famous for the rest of the cruise.. LOL.

These days are overs as I wont play in a Princess casino now.

those dang key machines. Ive seen people win at just about everything in a casino besides the key machine. One girl put a $20 in the cash claw and brought up 3 stacks of $100. Guess i don't have the skills for that

I won $1,000 2 nights in a row on the same machine a few years back. I venture to say that I have given that all back on subsequent cruises. But, at least I get the discounted fare so that works for me.

Thank you , DKJRetired. It always amazes me how many of these urban myths are put about about slot machines, and how it seems so few gamblers bother to learn anything about how the machine they're playing really works, or how the human psychology tampers with our view of what's really happening as we gamble.

Yes, DW and I have both had substantial wins on slot machines on cruise ships. A jackpot can happen (or not) with each and every spin, no matter whether the machine is located on land or on a ship.

And of course the casino revenue is part of the overall profit or loss for every cruise. Casinos (both land and sea) can calculate very closely what revenue they can expect for every day, based on the mix of payback percentages they have set on their machines, and their past history of the amount of gambling likely to occur on any cruise or day at different times of the year.

Believe me, there would be no casinos at all if they weren't such profitable operations for their owners!

I was on the MSC seaside last week and the 2nd night in there was a 15,000 winner on a quick hit machine on there free spin bonus there were a total of 6 winners on the quick hits ranging from 15k-3k and other winners on other machines however a gentleman I met said he was on the same ship only a week prior and didn't see 1 person hit a jackpot all week

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO rexy69: Slot machines are a hit and miss proposition. Have won the second highest payout on a Wheel of Fortune once and won the second highest payout on another cruise line on a high roller slot machine. For the most part slot machines are long term losers. If you are there when the big payout is due fine. Otherwise long term losers. They are great for casinos. They don't need sick days or vacation days. It just sits there and when someone wants to play they play. If you wish to have success in the casino learn to play a table game. However, all table games are not created equal and there are many bad bets.

And that's exactly normal for slot machines.

We did poorly on the first 2 cruises, but on the Escape we won about $10,000 throughout the cruise. Made up for past losses and more.

Another myth has to do with putting your sign and sail card in the machine. You are only hurting yourself. In Vegas, AC, etc all have laws requiring that prohibit the cards from having a connection to winning or losing. Cruise lines basically follow those rules.

I recently returned from Crystal Serenity cruise where someone won $72,000 on a video poker machine.

I always think threads/comments like this are so very subjective without the details of the denomination of the machine and how much the bet was.

My wife and I hit a few times every cruise for $800-1200 playing various penny video slot machines with bets around $2-2.50. Are we getting rich off that...no of course not. But a $2 bet paying $1000 is a pretty nice score and keeps you gambling on the casino's dime for quite a while.

I have had good cruises and bad in the casino. In 2009, I hit a slot for $3,500 on the first night while onboard the Enchantment OTS. They took my picture holding the money, and it was posted all over the ship. People kept coming up to me and saying "You're the casino guy, aren't you?"

Two summers ago, I won more than $4k on a cruise, and just last week I hit Symphony for several thousand.

It isn't all winning, though. I lost $2K last year while on the Radiance OTS. I blame that stupid bathtub sized craps table.

Any video poker enthusiasts here? When we went on the Crystal Serenity to Alaska last year they had good video poker 9/6 JOB and some quarter games with progressives. We did very well on that cruise. I recently returned from Mediterranean cruise, same ship, and they had downgraded the VP significantly. I could not find anything reasonable to play. Does anyone know if Crystal Symphony has the same bad VP?

In December 2016 I sat down at a slot machine and intended to bet 30 cents.Instead I accidentally hit maximum bet and won $547.00 .I put away the $500 and kept $47 to play the rest of the cruise (my winnings were on night #1) .

From that $47 I won an additional $300 on various nights and brought it all home. In December 2017 I was on the same ship and on night #1 played the same machine and lost my limit for the day,By the end of the cruise I won close to $600.

wonder if it was the same person on the Celebrity Infinity West Coast cruise 5.17

A Guy won $40,000 and his wife won $30,000 in one night.

I heard they won over 100k during the cruise but not sure about that.

The Casino Host put the $40k in news letter and when I asked her about

it she told me about his wife winning too

It was also on a video poker machine

I don't know if you would consider this a big win, but it was for me! A few years ago I got $800 on a Quick Hit machine, and I was not playing the max (probably $.75). This was at a time when I went on this much needed vacation on a shoestring budget, and this more than paid for my cruise. I was thrilled.

I've had several hand-paid jackpots on slots over the past several years. It annoys me that they give out W2-G forms for wins over $1,200 just like back home. I can't say that I'm ahead of the shipboard casinos, but of the 15 cruises I've been on I've only paid for the first three. The rest have been casino VIP (very idiotic player, I think) invitations. Of course my casino donations more than covered the cost of those trips, but I'd have probably lost playing back home anyways, so it all balances out in the end.

Yes, people do win (not me as a rule) because I've seen it. On a cruise earlier this year, a woman hit one of the penny machines for $10K (no idea what her bet was). A couple of days later, she hit a different machine for another $10K.

I've hit some hand-pays a few times on cruises, but I'm pretty sure I'm not up overall. I have my "entertainment" money and enjoy using it.

On a 2 night to nowhere back in 2012 out of NY, I was playing a Quick Hit Platinum machine at $3 max bet. I was down to $12 in credits when I hit the Jackpot for $15,000!

I was on Freedom of the Seas in 2009 and witnessed a woman win 3 different jackpots on a quick hit machine. All $5k and up. I never win big on the slots, they are tight on royal caribbean. Would like to hear about some jackpot winners!

Last year I hit a $2400 jackpot on Royal Caribbean - the last night of the cruise. The first night I made $800 off $20 during the first hour of the casino opening. My husband hit a $1,000 spin somewhere in the middle of the week. Also on that cruise a man hit $20K. Problem is.....when it's all said and done, we still lost more than we won. We enjoy the casino and put money aside all year for our cruises and never plan to make a profit. We get lots of free cruise offers in the mail and never pay for our cabins anymore - but they certainly aren't free!

This sounds exactly like us. The "free" cabins certainly help take some of the sting away from our losses but they certainly aren't free. Of course we would still gamble like we do so the comped cabin is a nice perk. The best thing is when you actually walk off the ship money ahead when the cruise was comped.

I always like to look at it like I get at least 2 for 1 on my money when gambling on a "comp" cruise....if I can come home with some cash, even better......if not, oh well, the all in price for a week vacation is still worth it!
