St. Patrick's Day often passes me by without notice despite my diluted Irish heritage. To others, it's a big deal. Really big. And green. St. Patrick's Day is a big enough deal that the Irish (and self-identified Irish) suspend the restrictions on eating and drinking imposed by Lent for the day. St. Patrick is famous for driving the snakes out of Ireland. Since Ireland has never had snakes, it’s likely a metaphor for his aggressive evangelical conversion of the Druids to Christianity. I assume “snake” means “Druid” and they weren’t the popular kids. For 2018, I’m celebrating my lack of Druidic influence with Kassi’s Irish Car Bomb cupcakes and Guinness Nitro. Thanks Pat!

Know the feeling -- had it happened to us last week -- snow and cold weather killed our daffodils before they even bloomed.

Happy St Patrick's Day Dave,

The cupcake looks delicious.

DH is right now sipping his Tullamore Dew.

Spring is springing...

(But I can't do my Guinness out of a bottle - the cans with the nitro pillows kind of work, but luckily the local wing joint has a patio and a tap!) 1623d48975156b178eebc04695a58f76.jpgb31c6dff9eeb802ea1849ef31c34bdc3.jpg

Some birding from this weekend at the Florida wetlands - good action out there Saturday:

Osprey flying by with his fresh-caught lunch:

Tricolor heron, using his patented jump-run-fly hunting technique:

Great blue heron flying JUST over the water's surface:

Always fun sight to see - very tropical birds from central America who've taken up residence in Florida - a nice flash of green in the sky as these black-crowned Nanday parakeets fly over noisily calling out:

Huge wood stork, showing off his size with his wings out and legs down to land:
