Hamburg, Amsterdam and Le Havre ideas wanted for 11yo boy

We are a couple in our 70s and our DGS is aged 11. We will arrive in Amsterdam at 3pm and depart at midnight the following day during half term week. Hamburg is 8am to 5pm and Le Havre is 8am to 8pm. I am looking for inexpensive ideas that will entertain us all, if such things are possible. :)

Hamburg is easy! Miniature Wunderland. Check it out on Tripadvisor and google their website. It is amazing! You can just get a taxi there, but if so, book a time slot online in advance. Otherwise there will be a ship’s tour if you prefer that.

On the other site of the water opposite Centraal Station in Amsterdam this rather new experience can be done. Great for adults but also for kids. https://www.thisisholland.com/en/home/

Also a visit to Zaanse Schans will be interesting. You can see how cheese is made, taste many different cheese for free, see how clogs (klompen) are made and you can visit insides of working windmills. Entrance is free, you pay to go inside a mill. Ine, could you please tell me if there are lockers in the Central train station in Amsterdam to leave our large suitcases while we tour the city for the day.

However I heard different stories how to get to them as the trainstation has had major renovations and better security.. Somebody told me you need to have a trainticket to have the gates open to get there, others tell it is no problem. I am abroad for about 2 more weeks, after that I will try and find out more about it.

While in Amsterdam I enjoyed the Heineken brewery tour..... the horses were on sabbatical for the summer though. Lots of fun, and enjoyed lemonade as I'm not a beer drinker.

Get him to watch Saving Private Ryan, or The Longest Day before you leave, and then take him to the actual D Day beaches. Cool for him and interesting for you.

I contacted a friend about the storage and this is what he wrote: Yes there are lockers at the station but you need a valid train ticket (or OV card) to access them not. A better option across the street http://dropandgo.nl/ or just google luggage storage Amsterdam.

Also in the cruise terminal there are lockers.

I second , third and fourth Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg.

It is absolutely spectacular.

And DO book your timeslot. It gets BUSY!! Next door is the Hamburg Dungeon. A creepy museum of sorts. Torture, medieval horrors, the plague etc. Haunted house on steroids. Kids LOVE it. (And then crawl into bed with the grandparents at might when they dream about the stuff thru have seen)
