Wine Lovers the Musical on the Breakaway

Recommended Posts

We are on the Breakaway out of NOLA later this year with 3 at sea days. We are thinking of doing Wine Lovers the Musical on one of the sea days. All it says on the NCL website it that it is a musical comedy with lunch and wine tasting. Cost is $29.44 each including tips. Has anyone done this? How long did it last and was it worth going to?

I forget exactly how long it was, possibly an hour and a half. The tables are set in place around the stage just like the circque dreams show with banquet seating, around 8 people per table. Five of the six wine glasses are set up and poured for you with your place setting. The show progresses through lunch and you get cues on when to drink the next glass. We were lucky enough to have the same narrator on Getaway and Breakaway.

We just did it on the Breakaway in April. It's just over an hour. The musical is corny, but it's still amusing enough. The lunch was fine and the wine was fine. We thought it was worthwhile.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I think we will try it as well for one of the sea days. Was it full and something we need to go ahead and reserve or can we wait to reserve it when we get on the ship? Do either of you recall what they had for lunch? Soup and sandwiches? Our friends we are travelling with are picky eaters.

I would say to reserve it ahead. We had a larger group of around 30 in addition to the normal reservations so they moved the show to the Tropicana room on Getaway. Duck salad appetizer with surf and turf.

We did this on Escape. Enjoyed the show, which was in a small, intimate setting. The cast would incorporate comments from the audience in the skit. The food was okay. Don't drink the wine before you are qued to do so. We thought it was fun and worthwhile. In fact, ever time we are cruising, we usually will have a line from the show come up.

We just attended on the Escape in April. It was awesome and a nice 3 course meal was included. The singing was beautiful and it was quite entertaining. If you like musicals and plays you’ll love it and if you don’t then at least you get to drink wine so you shouldn’t whine:D;p

Wow was not expecting surf and turf. Sounds like the meal that comes with the Cirque show. If the entertainment is half as good as the Cirque show it will time and money well spent.

Need help from experienced NCl cruisers. Booked Breakaway out of NOLA in Dec. for family cruise, kids, grand kids, etc. Is it important to book the highest price seats for Cirque Dreams show (so grade school age kids can see ?), or would we be able to save a little by purchasing the regular ($29 ?) price seats ? Also considering the wine lunch/musical for the adults while kids are in program. Is this usually on a sea day ? Can you make the reservations on line when you do the on line check in ? Thanks loyal NCL cruisers, had a great time on the Escape though it is usually not my cruise line of choice, but hoping the BAW will also be a good family choice. If you have other tips, please friend/message me ! :D

We did it on the Escape and thought it was a nice way to spend an hour or so. Plus we love wine. It was funny and the food was good. Get there early so you can get a place in the front.

Our cruise on the Breakaway leaves on Nov 11th and we wanted to to the Wine Lovers Lunch.  When I went to the NCL website  under our reservation they show that the only time it is available is on the last sea day Nov 17th.  Is that normal to only offer the Wine Lovers Lunch once?

We have done this 3 times. We will do it again in Jan. It is only offered once during a cruise. The play is silly but the wine and food are great. We always enjoy it.

We enjoyed this show in June.  Wine not high end, and the food at cirque was much better, but thought the story was entertaining, I learned a bit about wine and the lead male was very talented.  A good time and we thought worth it.

We were hoping it would be offered more than once  as we have 3 sea days on our cruise. We already have the Cirque show for later on the same day and were wanting to do the Wine Lovers Lunch on one of the other sea days.

Don't remember how long it was, but am guessing about 90 minutes and it was well worth it. The only down side: it was super crowded and hard to even move your legs or grab a glass of wine. You had to worry about hitting the person next to you. The food was good to very good and show cute. I would advise doing it.

We did it on the Breakaway earlier this month.

What a fun addition to the programming!

It's about 75 minutes long, and you eat your lunch (salad, rolls, steak, and shrimp) while the musical is being presented.

Within the musical script, you will be told which of the 5 wines to taste, how to "sniff, swish, and spit", and all about the characteristics of the wine you are tasting.

With the dessert course, a 6th glass of sparkling dessert wine is served to coincide with the finale of the show.

It was cute and well done!

Sharp-eyed cruisers will recognize the performers from the "Rock of Ages" cast!

I fun way to spend an afternoon!

And for those of yo not used to drinking 3 or more glasses of wine with lunch...ENJOY YOUR MID-AFTERNOON NAP IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING!!  :classic_biggrin:

Two years ago on the Escape, we had a "ladies lunch" at Wine Lovers and left our husbands to their own devices. The show was hilarious! The actors (from other shows on board) were very talented with wonderful voices. We were at a front row table for two and loved it! The 🍷was good (don't go expecting top shelf!) and you learned about each glass as you drank. The hard part was remembering not to drink until they tell you to!

My sister and I did this.

We had an issue in line as the “gentleman” behind us was trying to provoke the gentleman in front of us with brash political comments. We had to be firm with the hostess to not seat us with the boorish one. (I’m pretty sure he was the one escorted out partway through lunch for being loud).

Some wines we liked, others not at all. But we “traded” with others at the table.

A little too much wine for me in the middle of the day-the pours were generous!

I thought it was worth the money; my sister didn’t enjoy it very much.

We had 4 sea days on our cruise-not sure I’d do it if there was only one or two sea days-too many other things to do.

We did it on Breakaway in 2015. The show was a little cheesy, and if you are much of a wine drinker at all, be warned that the wine is crap. I think it’s geared toward people who have never been to a wine tasting and know nothing about wine. We knew we were on a cruise, so expected this and weren’t too disappointed.

We didn't find it particularly cheesy and thought the wines were about what we expected. I would cal them crap, but certainly not top shelf either. Spending a good part of our lives in Ca were grew up with wine. Of course the wine wasn't what you would pay $50 a bottle for. Our only problem was the place was so crowded. We are going on the Breakaway again in Oct and very well night repeat.

For the lunch....what if you are a vegetarian?  Do they accommodate that or do you get what you get.

Ask before you book on the ship!

The courses are listed on the show menu and are prepared and "timed" to be served at different points in the show....which leads to the next "tasting".

The meal started out with a salad, but I don't recall if they offered a vegetarian entree or not!

We loved it!

Thanks. It isn’t for me. I love my meat!!  One of my travel companions doesn’t eat meat and I thought this would be a good thing for us to go to...you know leave the kids with the dads while the moms have some alone fun time!!😋

One of the guests at our table requested a vegetarian meal. As I recall it was a pasta dish and he raved about it.
