Surprise Cruise on the Explorer!

Recommended Posts

Now we must talk about how you will present the gift.

I actually had this done to me. The cruise brochure was placed in a shirt box.

For my sisters 60, i sent her and hubby to vegas for a short trip. I made a passport with the info inside.

This is really the fun part. I love surprising people.

I even bought my ex a car one year. Picked it up, and parked it up the block. Christmas night moved it to driveway, big red bow on it. Closed blinds and put keys in stocking.

Last Christmas I surprised my mom and sister with a cruise on the Freedom OTS. I wrote a 10 line poem, printed it and then cut it into 5 small sheets, 2 lines to a sheet. I then picked up small items that reflected each line, and wrapped them up, using the 5th package for all the cruise info. Other boxes contained things like a small plastic airplane, travel size toiletries, passport cases, a book for vacation reading and the like. What a fun time watching them put together the poem clues, trying to figure out why I gave them kid':D:Ds toy planes and boats.

Our first cruise in 1992 on RCI Sovereign of the Seas was a surprise 10th anniversary cruise for my wife. So as not to be divorced for not allowing her any time to prepare and pack, I told her of it a week before at dinner at a restaurant where I presented the cruise documents with desert.

26 years later have been cruising - and happily married - ever since.

I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to spring this on him haha. Luckily I have 6 months to figure it out!

Hahaha very clever (and smart!) of you :D. My boyfriend will have 2ish months from when he finds out about the cruise to when we set sail so he'll have plenty of time to plan and pack (there's no way I'd pack for him!)

What a near thing to do. I know my hubby would be royally PO'd at me if I tried to do something like that. Not only is he not big on surprises, but he likes to be part of the planning. Plus he would want to check with his boss first (and again would be PO'd if I did it for him). Now of course, if I wanted to pay for it all, that he would be fine with.

As far as your planning and sharing, don't forget to check for your official RCI Meet & Mingle thread and sign up for the party. I'm sure everyone already signed up will be excited to follow along, make suggestions and even help with more surprises if you wanted.

Do keep us posted on how everything comes together.

Congrads!!! Now to plan on giving him the surprise. Maybe buy him a new bathing suit or sail away tee shirt. And yell him he's gonna need it becsause.....

Hubby has a tee he wears on sail away. It says: muster drills, interrupting drinking since 1972.

They actually have them in diff years. I picked his birth year. And I bought it after seeing someone here on cruise critic wearing one

Haha luckily my boyfriend is the opposite to your hubby! He's more than happy to sit back and let me plan our holidays together. I'll be springing the surprise on him a good 3 months before we go so he'll have some say in shore excursions etc. We're also both good friends with his boss at his work and socialise with the boss and bosses wife outside of work quite often so it was very easy for me to send him a sneaky message and confirm time off would be approved ;p

That's a great idea about the RIC meet and mingle thread- I'll do that, thanks!!

  • 5 months later...

The time to reveal is SO close!! 16 days and counting. I can't believe I've managed to keep this cruise a secret since the beginning of June!

So I've found a letter board (see pic) that I'm going to "write" on to reveal the cruise... I'm going to give him the letter board in the box so he'll be "what the?" until he opens the box and reads the board. I'm going to print out a picture of the ship to put on there as well.

I just dont know what to write on the board! Help a girl out??
