We have a cruise scheduled on the Regal Princess for Nov. 25th we are on the Marina deck which is part of the ***** group. When we booked it was an ocean medallion cruise now on the Princess website it states it is a ocean medallion preview cruise. Hopefully this cruise goes smooth for us with no issues with the ocean medallion.

what all do you plan on using the ***** for?

1) unlocking/opening door

2) paying for drinks / onboard purchases

ok, got those 2 out of the way - what else?

3) ordering drinks from either a kiosk or your phone for here and now?

4) 3 as above , but for then and there ( think drink in the theatre )

5) ordering googles you forgot , but not having to leave the pool area?

6) online 'real gambling with real money', but not having to go to the casino?

what else?...that can't be done already using the Princess @ Sea ?

For myself it's entering the cabin, entering & exiting the ship a little easier & finding my helter skelter wife. :D

They can use the rest of the features for everyone else. ;)

Enjoyed the unlimited internet for Platinum and Elite back in December 2018... it was fast and I was streaming music all week! Wont be disappointed if the rest of the ***** tech doesn't work but did enjoy having access to whatever music I was in the mood for all week.

My DH would agree with the helter skelter wife bit! I'm curious to see if we will have ***** on the our trip in October.

Tomorrow is Aug 4—can someone who's on the sailing check in with us on whether ***** on the Caribbean Princes is happening as rumored or not? Thanks!

Vickie and Bernie are joining the ship tomorrow and she is planning on blogging for their cruises at http://vickieandbernietravel.blogspot.com/

I'm joining the ship Aug 18 and will be blogging at https://www.debsdays.com/ from then until we leave the ship on Sept 8.

If there is ***** happening (or not), you'll be able to read about it for sure!

Spoke this week with someone, who claimed special knowledge, who stated they had Ocean Medallian updated status and future plans that have not been released to general public. She confirmed, what I saw, that my Regal Princess 8/28 25 day cruise was no longer noted as the last preview verses full Medallian cruises thereafter. Had been hopeful that maybe 80 to 90% would be ready when we sailed soon.

She said that total focus is now shifted to the Caribbean Princess to be the very first total ship rollout AFTER it goes into its next dry dock in a few months. Regal will only have cabins within Muster B until it goes into it's 2020 dry dock, then and only then, additional service ship-wide. Hoping for continual progress on Regal is gone until 2020.

On side note she confirmed, when I stated how great the internet service was on my Caribbean Princess trip 3 weeks ago, that yes that internet I experienced was the upgraded often call Medallian internet. She said that internet is active on the Regal as well. Internet was super with strong signals everywhere, dependable and very fast download speeds than any Princess ship sailed.

I take from your posting that you didn't receive the medallions in the mail like they originally were talking about on the Regal?

Nope. Only news on the CB is sightings of ***** staff and the Aug 4 rumor. Nothing official of any kind.

For me personally the greatly improved internet (at least at some latitudes) is of much more importance that a Medallion, or anything it could do if operative.

I have noticed they are trying to conflate the two, Internet and Medallion, although as I understand technically unrelated. That way some success. On the other hand I would speculate the Medallion technology is more important to the company...not the passengers. I am trying to imagine how much the Medallion failure (unless spectacular news today about the Caribbean as above would be reported (thank you) cost the company...this is a problem for Carnival Corporate not Princess. Who will be paying for the problems? I would guess anyone who sails the fleet in years to come. Where is the Carnival Board of Directors? All the best and I hope it works after time and money but internet again for me is key and only Medallion in name

I received a text message from my brother a couple hours ago. He and his wife had just boarded the Caribbean Princess. They did not receive medallions.

This is not to say, of course, that nobody received medallions. It is entirely possible that there is a phased implementation.

I guess we will have to await further on-scene reports.

Update to my last post.

I just received another text message from my brother on the Caribbean Priincess. To open his cabin door he tapped his card key against a panel. It appears that the panel replaces the mailbox in the entryway.

I am actually a fan of the medallion program and I was fortunate enough to be in the test group on my recent Regal cruise . The project has a lot of potential and I hope that they manage to work out the bugs and roll it out . I am excited about the rumors regarding the Caribbean Princess as my next cruise is on it in two weeks and I wouldn’t mind being a test pilot again .ba6128090d6483c6e51751e5aa4460cf.jpg

I regards to the comment about receiving the medallion before the cruise , the truth is that you actually do not need the physical token until you board . You can do all the precruise setup up through the app and the ocean-compass website. It also saves them the shipping and packaging costs ( >$30k per cruise estimated) .

I'm guessing that pic was taken before Princess figured out that the medallion kept popping out of the wristband and people were loosing them

question... do the ***** 'test pilots' now get the lanyard?

My cruise was in March and it never popped out . When I received mine via FedEx it came with a lanyard / plastic holder and I bought the strap because for me it was more convenient that way . My biggest gripe is that little piece of rubber was not cheap.

BTW I just took the picture with the blue strap for the post on this thread. cbe571f77eae3da61d745878909eb3ca.jpg

Speaking of ***** rumors I read a variety of threads and the latest from someone with access to “top secret memo” has the first complete rollout of an unnamed ship has now been moved to 2020. Pick your own ship and date if you wish to really buy into it

OK... There are two different "initiatives" that are getting conflated: "Ocean Medallion" and "MedallionNet".

Ocean Medallion seems hung up on sensors not properly tracking where the medallion (and you) are.

Princess isn't going to roll ***** out any farther until the hardware stops reporting that it's not time to

unlock your stateroom door because you're not there yet, even when you are. Oops! Reports are that

the ***** folks have moved over to the Caribbean Princess while the Regal is in Europe.

MedallionNet works astoundingly well (1500 simultaneous video streams 24/7, to be shared by 3600

passengers), but only while in range of the "O3b" satellites in Medium Earth Orbit over the equator.

Last month, Regal sailed north of 48ºN (Seattle / Southampton) and out of range. Double Oops!

---

For what it's worth, Eurodam was running it's onboard WiFi at 72Mbps just fine two weeks ago, so WiFi-

in-a-steel-can isn't the technical nightmare it was only a few years ago. (Didn't help much since it was an

Alaska cruise and she was starved for upstream satellite connectivity. Wonder why?)

Just off the Caribbean Princess. All rooms are now accessible with your key cards touching the Ipad at each stateroom door. It was implemented on the 4-5th day of our July28th cruise. It worked well.

So your saying that the door pad worked with the issued cruise card and that a Medallion wasn't given or necessary?

What about location others on the ship as they indicated it would be when they first announced the Medallion system?

where else can you tap with your cruise card? - bars? shops? casino?

Sounds like Princess is catching up with 1997 technology... 20 years ago

Speedpass

Speedpass is a keychain RFID device introduced in 1997 by Mobil Oil Corp. for electronic payment. It was originally developed by Verifone. As of 2004, more than seven million people possess Speedpass tags, which can be used at approximately 10,000 Exxon, Mobil and Esso gas stations worldwide.. .

Speedpass has also been previously available through a Speedpass Car Tag and a Speedpass-enabled Timex watch.

Royal Caribbean's Oasis class has had RFID room/charge cards since Oasis was launched in 2009. I imagine it easier to install it during construction, than retrofiting an existing ship.

I read one of the blogs that was mentioned in an earlier post. She said the elite lounge attendant said they no longer will punch a hole in the room/charge card for lanyard purposes, and she would have to go to guest services. Well guest services wouldn't do it either. Royal Caribean is also the same way. The reason why is the RFID chip could be anywhere in the card. There is no set location.
