What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Hi! Sailing Tuesday on the Getaway and currently have a Spa Balcony.  We submitted an upgrade offer for three different Haven cabins.

My question is:  If I already paid for a 4-meal dinner plan (it was not one of my Free at Sea options), does that payment get refunded to me it I get a Haven upgrade which includes all Free at Sea options?

I could not find it in the fine print anywhere....thanks, in advance, for answering!!

You keep your original perks and do not gain any new ones through the bid process. Though the other poster was correct that if you are currently in a spa cabin and upgrade to a non-spa cabin you will lose access, as that particular perk stays with the room.

Does anyone know why only some people get upgrade emails? Surely if NCL invited everyone to participate they would get higher bids?

Am I right that you will only get an email if you have booked with a US Travel Agent or booked directly online with NCL?

I don't believe it has to be a US travel agent, just a participating one. NCL offers upgrades to anyone booked through them or a participating TA. If a TA opts not to participate, that is beyond NCL's control. Otherwise, as far as I know, everyone DOES get an invitation to bid.

I live in the UK and booked through a travel agent ( online ) that operates in the UK market and the US. I received an upgrade email this morning for our September cruise. I also was able to bid last year but the year before it was only in the USA and had been rolled out  in Europe .

Everyone doesn't get an invitation..

I booked directly through NCL's CAS last year for the EPIC TA in November 2018, and I got an invitation to bid.  I had already booked and paid for a H4 using the Caesars discount, so I didn't bother bidding.  I wanted the H4.

I'm sailing on the Escape on 06/30, booked directly through NCL's CAS, and I didn't get an invitation to bid.   I booked and paid for a B9 using the Caesars discount.   I asked CAS why I didn't get an invite, and they said it was random.

I always book through CAS. I never get the email, but the option to bid for an upgrade does appear on MyNCL page as well as in my NCL page emails. If you haven't looked there, you might try that. My September cruise will be my 9th NCL cruise booked through CAS and have received the bid offer each time. Good luck!

Got it! 6/28 Gem to Bermuda, my only bid was for a suite (SE, SF) from a balcony.  Bid $640 each (total $1280), high end of poor (fair started at $700 each) and was notified this afternoon, 4 days in advance.

Now how am I going to keep this from hubby?  Do the suite perks start as soon as we start the boarding process?  We are on the same floor as our original cabin, and I would love to keep this a secret until he actually gets to the door.

We are 64 days out and this is the first time I have not received the email or offer to upgrade.  We are platinum, just for reference.  I was given this information:

Key offer details:
1. Norwegian (not VTG) determines which bookings are eligible for an upgrade offer.
2. On select sailings customers are given the opportunity to bid for an upgrade against other customers on the same voyage. Eligible customers will receive an email from VTG outlining the details.
3. These auctions are typically offered around 30 days prior to sailing, and upgrades are confirmed a few days before departure.
4. Customers provide their credit card number online at the time of the bid. If they submit the winning bid their card is automatically charged and the upgrade is confirmed immediately.

We did book an M6 in an excellent location, so not feeling the urgency to upgrade.  I have never upgraded to Haven, but have cruised in the Haven. Last year we fell in love with Windstar and spent a lot of time on them.  I would rather pay more for that kind of experience as opposed to obsessing over suites on the larger ships.  As one lady said to me....(she was in an inside cabin, which I won't do) We all arrive at the same time....

Tried to surprise my wife with our upgrade. The woman at checkin (Boston)blew it for me. Then we were escorted to the priority waiting area with lunch and drinks while we waited to board so the surprise would have been over there anyway. Congrats and have a great trip...no going back to "coach" now!

Even if we get the priority check-in (which I admit would be a nice perk), he still won't know exactly how much bigger (almost double) and better the room and perks are until we get there.  So that can be his surprise.

Thanks for the info - I'll be prepared to "surprise" him when someone else lets the cat out of the bag.

I am on the Sky July 1st and bid on a balcony upgrade.  That category has been showing 15 avail cabins on ncl.com until last night and other categories had availability as well.  Now all categories are showing sold out.  Did they really sell all those cabins in one day or is this the start of the upgrade process?

Probably the beginning part of the upgrade process.  Or not.  They may pop back into inventory tomorrow (seen it happen on other sailings).  But likely that it is the beginning of the upgrade process.  Good luck with the bid!

Did you go to your personal NCL check-in to see if the offer was there?  Have you booked with "VTG"  (and yes I know the reference) before?  Because the "30 days prior" that they mention in their email offer isn't correct for NCL...it's typically 80 days out.

I've been offered the Upgrade Advantage on every sailing at 80 days out...and have been Platinum for the last two sailings.  But, I always got the offer even before then.  I think it has more to do with the agency you book through if you are not getting an offer now, officially, in an email.  But do check to see if it is there and you just weren't notified.

On our cruise on Pearl we are 35 days out and all rooms above ocean view have gone sold out, a week ago there was over 30 balcony’s available. There does show an option for a GTY balcony

Does this mean the bidding is concluded and rooms have been assigned ( I lost out as vid wasn’t high enough) or is this standard practice as they know rooms will sell due to volume of bids?

Yes. I checked everywhere and my ta says they participate. Tried to call NCL but was on hold over 30 mins each attempt and gave up

We are Platinum Plus and my TA does participate. We have received the bid to offer every time with the exception of once which was on our Jade cruise last March 2018. Of all the opportunities we've had to bid we've only been accepted once.

My June 30th cruise is showing sold out on some sites (including NCL) but available on other sites with only Suites and Balcony GTY cabins.  I'm still hopeful for an upgrade, but my hopes are dwindling.

I just received my upgrade for this cruise.  Mini suite to courtyard penthouse
