What was your upgrade offer and what did you bid

Robbie,

we just did the same for the cruise on the 11th!   The drop this past week made it no longer worth the “gamble” of the bidding process.  We moved from our original B9 to an H5 for just a bit more than what we had been bidding.

It’s our first NCL cruise and we can’t wait!

looking forward to meeting everyone at the Meet & Greet!

For those of you bidding on a spa balcony, cabin 15156 should be open for bidding 😀

Jon & Carolyn

Were these on top of comps from CAS because I have tried 3 times and they tell me to pound sand.  My upgrade fee is nearly twice the gap of my comp and the current price of Haven H9 per person.  Makes no sense.

No...This was not a CAS booking but just a straight out reservation.

We had a B9 booked for several months and had bids in for H9's and H5's.  When the H5 dropped last week, the gap between what we had paid months ago and the H5 was within $50pp of our bid, so we just cancelled our bids and called.  (Originally paid $1649pp for the B9, and just paid the difference of $950pp to upgrade to the new $2599 retail)

I imagine it is more complex when you have a CAS comp.  Do they value that at some "set" price or do they use the retail price at the time they originally comp the room?  I could see how they won't value your current cabin at the price the day you want to upgrade, but rather some past (lower) price.

Drvmywfcrzy,  what was your original comp?  Is that what you are still in now?  Also, there is still the 140 pp CAS fee that is still charged.

Also, unlike upgrading to a balcony where you still only get the free at sea benefits for your original comp, if you upgrade to the Haven through CAS you get all 4.

Very rough math and not sure what week you are going, but the H9 is pricing out between 6500-6700, your balcony comp is worth approx 1499pp, so the difference would be over 3000.  If you can get it for 1250 pp, that is a steal.

Balcony was worth 1899pp  $1499 is the no perks price.  I felt 1250pp was fair given the drop in price

The value of my current comp, oceanview, was the lowest no perks one, not the actual room I had.  So did you go for their offer of 1250?

Currently booked on Bliss (Alaska) for Sept 1st in a Balcony Guarantee (BF) for $1149 pp (have yet to have room assigned - just booked yesterday).

Offers for: (Low - High Bid pp)

Spa Balcony Stateroom

$105 - $450

Mini-Suite with Balcony Stateroom

$105 - $450

Spa Mini-Suite with Balcony Stateroom

$125 - $550

The Haven Forward-Facing Penthouse with Balcony (H7)

$500 - $2000

The Haven Suite - Connecting Stateroom (H8)

$500 - $2000

The Haven Spa Suite with Balcony (H9)

$500 - $2000

The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony (H5)

$500 - $2000

The Haven Aft-Facing Penthouse with Master Bedroom and Balcony (H6)

$750 - $2500

The Haven 2 Bedroom Family Villa with Balcony (H4)

$1500 - $3000

The Haven Deluxe Owner's Suite with Large Balcony (H2)

$2000 - $4000

I've always wanted to cruise Haven, but I can't decide if it's actually worth it at this point. We received all 'perks' when we booked the balcony and from what I read we wouldn't get double points by the bidding process anyway(?). And from my understanding there is a priority embarkation room AFTER security (some cruise lines have a separate security line for suite guests)?

Do they let you know if your bid is rejected? I am on the GEM in 2 days. Haven't received anything.

We did the same thing for the 8/18 sailing on the Escape.  The price drop today made it not worth taking the chance as our bids were right in line with what the upgrade cost.  I already see inventory getting swallowed up this morning.

Can you cancel your bid if you decide to rather take the price drop?

Hello! This will be my first post on Cruise Critic but I have been lurking this thread for a long time. Posting a bit early I think but here is my offer info

Escape to Bermuda sailing 9-1-19

Booking inside cabin through Casinos at sea comp.

My Offers:

Spa Balcony $350 PP (top of fair range)

Any Balcony $200PP (middle of fair range)

The cruise is becoming packed with not many rooms left. Prices have actually increased about $300 for a balcony in the last couple months. Its a holiday week so I may have a tough time getting an upgrade. Should I offer more?

You can cancel your bid at any time - unless it is accepted and then it is locked.  So you cannot take a look at your new cabin and decide that you preferred the old one!!

How much you offer is up to you.  It is guess work.  Threads like this may help the decision-making process, but I don't think they do.   I have come to the conclusion that it might be better to not go for a round figure.  Why go $200?  lots of people might do that - perhaps better to go $201.

What you cannot do is book a cruise with the assumption that you will be able to win an upgrade.  That is a recipe for getting upset.

Also on the Gem in 2 days. Haven’t heard anything either, it’s probably pretty full, not many upgrades

The rejection emails usually start going out after 2pm est time so you should have something by the end of the day, fingers crossed though

Solid advise! Thank you Ollienbertsmum. Using the price is right method of going a dollar higher could pay off!

Good idea!  We made the decision this past Saturday and as best as I can tell, as of today, I don't see any H5's for our sailing available and nothing above.

We'll be sure to take good care of the ship so it's ready for you when we disembark on the 18th!

You could try calling CAS to ask what the cost would be to just upgrade to a room you want.   It' never hurts to ask!

Then if you like that choice, just cancel your bid.

This is the CAS golf cruise.  The highest rated players are offered this cruise and golf extras(parties, 2 days of golf and tournament with cash prizes all comped).  That being said most of the Haven rooms are already gone so upgrades to them are going to be tough.  On the other hand though, upgrades to oceanview and balconies should be plentiful.  The kids are back in school that week or the week prior so it is definately less crowded, at least has been that way the last 4 years.  I think your bids are fine for the balconies and I bet that you will get one of them.  Good luck.

So I didnt the other day cause I was on the fence.  Today I called and got the right rep.  $800/pp to upgrade from my balcony to H9 which includes the Spa pass.  So I jumped on it.  Bid range for me was $500 to $2000 and I had a bid of $950 which was in fair range so $800 seemed like a bargain.

drvmywifecrzy ... just saw your post. Wondering when your departure date is. I just called after seeing your post. Trying to go from Spa Mini (M9) to Haven Spa (H9) quoted $999/pp. Sailing on 18th.

Congrats Drvmywifecrazy!   Mine dropped again this morning.  Can’t decide if I want to upgrade to the h4 or stick with my aft balcony suite..  My aft dropped 1000 since I upgraded to it.  Sort of a bummer but oh well. I’m sort of looking forward to that aft balcony.
