Victory...a short review for a short cruise

Background: have sailed Carnival, RCCL, NCL, Celebrity and two booked for MSC. On Carnival: Glory, Splendor, Pride, Fantasy...and now the Victory.

We have always enjoyed our cruises on Carnival. The Victory...not so much. However, this was a last minute 4 day cruise. We had non-refundable airline tickets for a wedding that was cancelled...so we had to find something to do in this time period. Would NEVER normally book a booze cruise (aka: less than 5 days) and have never cruised less than 8 days. Take my quickie review with a grain of salt.

Cabin: 2457. Why this was available, I will never know. Twice the size of a cabin with window. Beautiful and roomy. Trying to save a few dollars? Book it. Great cabin with tons of room and storage. Only remark...NEVER saw or met our cabin steward. We are used to the steward introducing him/her self on the first day. Nope...never saw him. Really not a problem. Supplied cabin with towels and ice (which we requested via note stuck to mirror). Our hallway: OMG many people with room service. Hallway TRASHED with dishes and garbage for four days non-stop. I took pictures every single day to show the accumulation. Just unbelievable. By day 4, you could barely get down the hallway to the elevator.

Food: We had MDR 6pm seating (which we would never choose, but the only thing available). Yes, food is subjective. Lots of cruises under my belt. No problems ever. This....not so much. Won't even bother to go into detail. Terrible. We even ate dinner at the buffet on the third night to avoid.

The buffet was actually pretty good. Guys burgers? WTH happened? We were so looking forward to this. (loved it on the Pride). YUCK. Burnt, greasy, hockey puck burgers. Deli? Still wonderful.

Entertainment. There were two comedians. Mike S. and Mike Macy. Both were funny for their PG shows. Tee Hee. Ha Ha. Their R rated shows? OMG.....Mike S. was okay. Mike Macy? A MUST SEE. If you are over 60, make sure you wear your Depends! If there are any black people reading my review....please chime in about the lady in the electric wheel chair. Never laughed so hard in my life. Mascara running down my face.

Casino: HEY PEOPLE ...get your babies and toddlers and kids out of the casino. I mean ...REALLY??? Midnight , smoke, drunks, deafening music.....geeeeeez. What is wrong with parents today?

Speaking of Smoke: If you HATE smokers...skip this part, as it will not interest you.

Husband and SIL are smokers, as are a few other family members. Smoke has never bothered me, as I know it bothers many people. (nose pinchers, as they walk through the smoking section) Well, deck 10, Aft, Starboard, probably has the best smoking section I have ever seen. It is enormous, with actual furniture, tables, loungers and umbrella's. There is NOTHING else there and therefore NO NO NO reason for nose pinchers to be there.

Attire. Let me put it this way......Mike Macy stated it very well...his words, not mine. Quote: "Carnival Cruise Line is the only Cruise Line that accepts food stamps as payment". Nuff said.

Well, we dipped our toes in a quickie cruise. Now we know what it is like. Never again. Should have just took the loss on the plane tickets. Oh well.....live and learn.

We've only had one cruise where we never saw our steward and it was also a 4 day cruise. We've done a couple of 5 days cruises as well and the difference was like night and day. I think it's because the 4 days out of Galveston start on a Thursday, so it has more of a long weekend feel as opposed to a real vacation, so people feel the need to go wild and cram as much fun into those four days (really just three full days) as possible. I'll never do another 4 day or less unless I get a deal that's too incredible to pass up. The 5 day cruises didn't feel much different from the 7 day cruises I've taken.

We had much the same experience on our last short cruise, which was the Victory. We have had some good 4-5 day cruises in the past, but this was probably our last. Our neighbors across the hallway were incredibly loud all night long until about 4 in the morning *each* night and nothing was done about it. Since much of the hallway knew each other, we felt intimidated to complain. Service was lackluster at best.

We decided in the future we would only do longer cruises and would try to invest in the best location and cabin type to avoid the heavy partiers who likely save on their room type to have more money for partying. That may not always work, but we're giving it a go!

Thanks for the review!! We leave Monday... Hoping for a good free days!!

Dawn, as I stated above, take my review with a grain of salt. I am sure you will have an amazing time. This is just not what we expected or used to. If Mike and Mike are your comedians, DO NOT MISS THE R-RATED versions of their shows. Have a great time!!!!

So sorry you did not enjoy your cruise. We enjoy short cruises' date=' but we sail on Sundays or Mondays and avoid weekend cruises.[/quote']

We still enjoyed ourselves. Just not what we expected. :D I am glad you enjoy short cruises....just not for us. I am a little surprised that you are from NJ and take these cruises..as airfare is pretty steep. Not worth it to me to fly for anything under 9 days.

Welcome home. Thanks for talking a few moments to write a review.. There is no doubt that the short cruises fill a niche in the market. People are short on time and want to cram as much food, drink and entertainment in as possible. Even the vibe and atmosphere of the longer cruises can differ depending on time of year, itinerary, and port of departure... Sounds like the shorty cruises are not for you..

We add a day or two before and after the cruise so we can explore the area we cruise from. 2 vacations in 1!
