Hi all,

Random question...

We have friends who live in Lisbon and I would like to get them into cruises so thought it would be a nice idea for them to have lunch/a tour of the ship whilst in port in Lisbon.

Has anyone ever done this before?

Happy to pay if needed. :halo:

Not even a ‘high level suite’ Can pull it off. A TA responded to such a person and very clearly said No. Been tried, a waste your and the ships staff time.

All attempts will be met with: No; No Chance; Nope, No way, Zilch chance; No Way Jose......etc, etc. etc (quoting a famous King of Siam!)

Now, just watch. After all these very clear posts, someone will say, “Yes, But I had a friend whose uncle’s buddy’s wife’s lover was able to do it’........and it will end up the same way when actually tried: NO.

Friend will not even be allowed to enter the security area to meet you.

I know of only one case. We were in Israel and the Top Cruiser in the Celebrity program at that time wanted to invite a high number cruise friend to have dinner. Both parties were will known to Celebrity. They had to go through Corporate to get permission and it took time to receive approval. This was quite some time ago, before the start of the new Loyalty program. A visit would not be allowed today! Security and heath issues.

No chance...probably could not get into the port area without ship ID...

It would not be fair to paying guests to have extra folks come on board...use amenities, food etc. Not to mention security concerns,

From time to time, marketing events are held for travel agents and potential cruise customers,,, Most always an inconvenience to booked guests!

While it was a nice thought, hope OP can enjoy a port visit with friends...

We were invited on Eclipse when she was in Liverpool in June by Celebrity. We had never contacted Celebrity previously, although we have been on 6 RCCI cruises. The invite also gave me options for Southampton visits too.

Although it was mostly Travel agents, there were friends of some staff also allowed on board. We were treated to a 3 Course meal, wine and cocktails.

I would suggest the OP contacts Celebrity and asks.

Sorry, OP -- but no (and, you'd get the same answer on RC). But, here's an idea: Although I've never been to Lisbon, I would think that there might be a restaurant or cafe, with a view of the cruise port. Maybe you could arrange to meet your friends for lunch, at a place where they could see your ship. And, of course , over lunch (or cocktails), you can show them pictures of the interior. Maybe someone over on the Ports-of-Call boards could help you find a location, where you could do that.

I'm not sure of the health and safety concerns. Certain staff does it with family, and travel agents and local tourism related people do it. When I leave the ship in port I often see the day security badges in a wooden box; they are worn, and I've seen people wearing them. (Regent allows it and they were easy to work with an amazingly hospitable.)

My first cruise in 1974, we had a party with 15 friends in our tiny cabin. Brought food and drinks on board, then they left to wave Bon Voyage and continue the party from the dock....another time for sure!

That was well before 9/11, not going to happen since then...

They are much better able to vet staff and their relatives....and they deserve this perk.

Hope OP can find a nice spot to visit with their friends on shore and interest them in cruising with them someday. There are lots of nice pictures and info available online and in brochures

Entertaining them on board is pretty much a non starter.....Many staff have the day off in port, or to do laundry or sleep...not fair to increase the workload for non-paying guests..

This was a set tour for TA’s and staff friends that you somehow got invited to. Nice, but this was an organized tour for TA’s and so on, not friends of passengers.

Yup, call and check directly, but then why ask here with all telling you you can’t? I believe the OP is just checking if its OK and standard to do, and has got the question answered.

OP - hope you can find a great way of being with your friends in port.

In the Navy, well before 911, I’d meet couples in foreign ports and then escort them on a tour of my carrier; great way of meeting locals......and getting invited to their home for local foods!

Visits are permitted on most, if not all, luxury cruises. There is a form to fill out and a copy of passport or other accepted identification that the cruise line needs to have in their hands about a month prior to the cruise. Passengers pay for any meals that their guests have. My point is that it is doable but could be extremely difficult on ships as large as Celebrity.
