Jazz trio 6 nights a week at happy hour and shows with visiting musicians and/or singers. We especially loved Randy Cannon. Many of you may have seen him as the pianist on the first season of The Love Boat. We became friends of Randy. Unfortunately he passed during the pandemic. But of his medical issues not the virus. Two jazz banjo players I know well in New Orleans are Lee Floyd and Don Vappie. Completely different styles and both unbelievable musicians. I don’t know how they do it! Yeah, I need to get back there for a visit.

Obviously I asked the burning question to be told that although gambling was illegal gaming wasn't. Is that true or was that just an amusing story? there cassinos now and a big one is being built. see the picture taken from my window. I took a double deck bus and visited some attractions: WWII museum, Gardens neighborhood and Katrina/Mardi Gras Museum Anne Frank in front of the WWII museum. In front WWI museum. Rare Dolcevita Diva Posted October 2, 2023 #18659 Share Posted October 2, 2023 @Lirio - Wonderful pictures - it looks like you are having a grand time in New Orleans! Several of the comments about jazz musicians, Pat O’Brien’s, et al, spurred some memories I think the Coolers may appreciate. Jazz - Sadly, one of my favorite jazz musicians who was a close friend of our CEO and became a personal friend as well passed away a few years ago. Ronnie Kole was a jazz pianist who has played for several U.S. presidents and for Pope John Paul II. https://www.nola.com/news/ronnie-kole-renowned-new-orleans-pianist-who-performed-for-6-presidents-and-a-pope-dead/article_3f343e6c-e939-11ea-b9d0-ebb26cad83af.html What the Coolers will appreciate is that Ronnie was also a wine connoisseur and collector who became close friends with several of the chateau owners in France and typically was invited to visit each year. We had been brainstorming with him on potential projects (cable tv series, etc,) to share his passion for wine with a broader audience. During one of his stays during harvest time, Ronnie arranged for the piano to be moved to the vineyard where he played for the workers during harvest. This became the catalyst for creation of a number of compositions inspired by the various wines/chateaux and two CDs titled Music of the Vines. So you can now listen to jazz compositions inspired by the wine while sipping on a glass of Chateau Margaux, Chateau Lynch-Bages, etc.

Rare Lois R Posted October 2, 2023 #18663 Share Posted October 2, 2023 Hi folks, for any of you home owner's don't you just love it when there is a leak in the plumbing?😧 I live in a condo (which I own) but the issue is the unit above me is leaking into mine☹️.......and what makes it even harder, that unit is owned by a Freddie Mac Bank (the unit is empty) except there has been work going on up there (heard some hammering and drilling last week). I am waiting for my property management people to get in there to see what is what......fortunately., it is not a bad leak....I have a bucket on the floor in the bathroom catching the drip. (my bathroom and closet back up to each other).......you can see the ceiling inside the closet.......and it is DAMP..........been a long weekend that is for sure😮...and I am not having a plumber come because it is the unit above me who needs to pay to fix the issue.

Emtbsams Posted October 2, 2023 #18666 Share Posted October 2, 2023 Home ownership of any kind is frustrating. When I got to my house at Alligator Point after hurricane Idalia, although there was no damage from the storm, my HVAC system had died. End of August in an unairconditioned house in Florida is no fun. It was 92F (33C) inside. Fortunately, I was able to get the whole unit replaced the next day, but that was an unexpected expense. The old unit was only 6 years old. Ah, the joys of coastal living! On another note, a 65+ year old friend of mine fell off a tall ladder yesterday while she was trimming trees. She was knocked out, but her Apple Watch detected her fall, called her emergency contacts and 911. She is resting uncomfortably in a local hospital. I made sure my watch is up to date with my emergency contact information.
Rare mysty Posted October 2, 2023 #18667 Share Posted October 2, 2023 @Lois R and @Emtbsams you have my sympathy. One of the pleasures of renting means peace of mind with regard to expenditures on household repairs. We are very lucky to be in a complex with responsive caretakers.
Rare Lois R Posted October 2, 2023 #18668 Share Posted October 2, 2023 Hi Mysty, thanks for your reply. I appreciate it very much and Emt, I hope your friend will be ok. I actually have some better news. The maintenance folks were able to get into that unit and guess what? it was actually the toilet that was the issue.....it was overflowing!!!!!! (Their bathroom is above mine)...no wonder it has been wet down here. This was a constant over the weekend. So, they turned off the water up there and will mop up all the excess. From what they told me the excess (what is left from standing water) should stop dripping over the next 24 hours.........this is probably the best scenario I could have asked for. I wasn't sure about posting this on here as I know the Cooler is more "upbeat" than this but thank you all for listening and allowing me to vent.
dawntrdr Posted October 2, 2023 #18669 Share Posted October 2, 2023 Lois, Wet drywall, especially in Florida, can be a playground for mold. See if your landlord can lend you a heavy duty dehumidifier to help dry it out faster and report any smell or staining.

A few thoughts: The bank's insurance is responsible for any costs you incur as it's their unit that caused the leak. You really should look into having the dry wall replaced as the mold can be inside the space between units and you may not know. Ofc, if they have opened the floor above then it should dry out. You may want to consider contacting your homeowner insurance company so they can chase the insurance from the unit above.
