Hey, we've often discussed the beauty of Iceland here.

Has anyone ever visited &/or seen Skalholt?

I'm enjoying this video after some wine (was it 3? its Friday night & I've been called back to work for a month or so, so losing count on this Friday evening).

Love watching the expressions on the artists playing strings in this video filmed in Skalholt.

Maybe a 3rd visit to this Scandinavian isle is in order...

Backroads brought a young Icelandic singer, Hanna Mia, onboard our Ponant circumnavigation cruise who spoke to us about Iceland, answered our questions and sang three songs.  Two were folk songs in Icelandic and the third was in English and was made popular by a group called Of Monsters and Men who are known in the US.  She told us she had tried to find the happiest Icelandic folk songs she could, but all of them are sad!

Hi, not sure if any of you are interested but Stanley Tucci is "Searching For Italy" again this season.

Last night they were in Umbria...........it was quite interesting and if you like pork? This would be the episode to watch!😃

I'd love to, Lois - but a bit too far away from your TV stations!

I wonder if in the States you get programmes featuring Rick Stein, a British chef, who does similar programmes travelling through France and visiting out of the way and often inexpensive restaurants.  Having holidayed a lot in all parts of France over the years, I am finding them especially nostalgic.

It sounds as if mysty is having a busy time on Silver Moon - currently still docked in Rouen, but probably sailing this evening when the tide is right.  I really wish I were on board with them all.  Are you cruising again soon?

Hi Lola, the show is on CNN........I know they are in the UK......maybe look it up and see if you can find it.🙂

I am cruising next month on The Dawn out of Barcelona🙂 I was supposed to sail on  her Inaugural but I had surgery and was in the hospital.

 Thankfully I am all healed and can travel again👍

Yes, Mysty sounds like they are having a very busy but very good time!

Lois, we have watched the first two this season (Veneto and Piedmont) but not the third one yet. We also have to review the Milan one in preparation for our trip there in less than three weeks!

Lola, I will try to look up where I can stream that series by Rick Stein. Sounds great!

jp - I think you would like it - it is on the BBC, but being completely untechnical I have no idea how you could get the series.  I imagine you are able to get BBC programmes?

Just watched him in Port Vendres, almost on the Spanish border, and have some lovely memories of  being there, actually on a small cruise ship.    Some lovely varieties of fish in the market there.

Rick Stein certainly has a lot of TV shows:

How does he have time to manage his restaurant empire?  We had a great time in 'PadStein' in Cornwall...

Rick Stein also  has restaurants in Australia.  Two  that I know of. He is married to  an  Australian girl.

I did a 2 day  cooking course with him at Bannisters Mollymook.  We had a great time.

Awake far too early - it might be a good idea  (if anyone at all is interested) to follow up the pronunciation difference stuff here rather than sully mysty's great cruise report any more.

I now need to know how to pronounce Des Moines, if it is not Day Mwan,  for instance.  It is the sort of answer that pops up on our TV quizzes.  And is it Kwebec or Kubec, chez eux?

We got by with Dez Moynez.

English villages seem to specialise in pronunciations that bear little relation to their spelling eg:

Cowbit = cubbit

Slaithwaite = Slowit (slow as in cow)

Staithes = Stee-ahs

Not just English, actually. Have a go at the following:

Milngavie

Dun laoghaire
