New Menu in Verandah on QM2

We're looking forward to trying this next month.  We really enjoyed Todd English but didn't so much care for the menu in the Verandah.  We are in PG this time but we are going to try it anyway so we can make our own decision about it.  What I find interesting is that you can get dover sole here and in PG you have to order it the day before.  Seems odd.

Well I am very disappointed to read this. We tried the Steakhouse on our honeymoon after I originally started this thread and were not remotely impressed; it was so inferior compared to QE and QV. We filled out the survey they were carrying out but the Maitre'D explained how it appeared popular and would probably stay. I understand why from a business perspective they have retained it and it clearly caters to an American market. I just hope they do not remove the more traditional fine dining experience on QE and QV; it has always been so busy on all of our cruises of QE and QV, where as apparently it was very quiet on QM2. I think, above all else, my issue was the informality of the Steakhouse: the card menu with a mediocre wine list printed on the back! The sommeliers are basically redundant. I don't see why it needed to be so dumbed down. Besides all else, the food was just not as good in my opinion.

I'm afraid I have disappointing news for you ( and for me too) This new Steakhouse concept will be rolled out on the Queen Victoria this November and (as I understand it)  later  in the new year on Queen Elizabeth. All part of brand consistency across the fleet.

Cunard Line may have us all believe  that this new Steakhouse concept is very popular and the best thing since sliced bread, that maybe so, as at the moment it's a novelty and a fad, everyone is eager to try it. However, once everyone has experienced it, especially the seasoned Cunarders, it will die a death and Cunard will be looking for something else to replace it.

I'm just glad that we had the chance to try the Verandah on QV in March - we really enjoyed the whole experience. We've got the Steakhouse booked for January and will leave it as there isn't anywhere else nice for a special occaision. If it was a normal holiday though I would wonder about paying for it as there is the other steakhouse option at the Kings Court in the evening - the Smokehouse, which sounds v similar.

FWIW, I dined in the Verandah steakhouse aboard QM2 in August, and the quality and ambience was far removed from the King's Court Smokehouse.
I would still have preferred the quaintly anachronistic traditional Verandah fare, so that I could have sampled the sort of menu that would have impressed my unsophisticated parents in the 1950s. But instead I got an excellent steak dinner, nicely served. Hardly a novel experience for any North American, but it was a very enjoyable dinner nonetheless.

We could see nothing on it either of us would touch. Uncooked venison? It is a shame to be leaving NYC and all the lovely ethnic food choices to have this as our dining upgrade choice? The mass market lines in some cases make an effort to see what people like to eat- or even what is hip and popular.

That is a lovely menu, with upscale , refined, European dishes, and obviously not American Midwest junkfood.

We are now booked in PG for the Dec 8 2019 crossing ex NYC, and I was really disappointed to see the new "Steakhouse" menu in the Verandah!  We had an excellent meal there on our last crossing in December 2017, where we found the food to be a welcome step above what was being served in the QG.  Since that last crossing, where the food in QG was disappointing, I have dreamt of returning to the Verandah, where the setting and menu was stylish and sophisticated. The new "Steakhouse" concept looks really uninspired, and frankly inappropriate for a Cunarder on the N. Atlantic.

I hope this means Cunard are upping their game in the QG (and PG), because last trip it was less than impressive. Fingers crossed.

It has already been established that the menu posted was an outdated version, dating from before the switch to the steakhouse menu.
I described it as the type of menu that would have impressed my unsophisticated parents in the 1950s.

Now, I sailed on the QM2 in Aug/Sept 2018 and tried the Verandah steakhouse. The food was excellent, served elegantly in a lovely setting. Nevertheless I share the common view that one expects choices from Cunard that are a bit more exotic.
Still, they will undoubtedly base their choices on the feedback received from passengers. If they like it then it is likely to be retained ... if not, then no.

As of today, it is still a steakhouse. I just checked my VP, under dining, then specialty dining and then clicked on the Verandah and there is a button for the menu. I was unable to copy the url to my post.
