Quick Year Over Year Over Year Liberty Recap.

Recommended Posts

We recently took our 3rd cruise on Liberty out of Galveston. We almost didn’t take it because we’d done the ship twice already, first as a couple in a JR Suite then with our adult kids, we had a balcony and they had a promenade interior. We did not enjoy the 2nd cruise as much as the first, primarily because the service was so much worse the 2nd time around and we had just done the Vision, where the service was understandably better.

But the timing was right and we decided to do it about 5 weeks out where GTYs were available for a good price.

So we booked a Suite and Inside GTY. We got out JS assignment right away, the lowest we were entitled to and the kids had to wait until 3 days out but found out they were upgraded to a balcony 2 floors below us.

We had a much better time for a few reasons:

The bar service was so much better at the pool and Casino, it appears they have taken bar servers out of the MDR room and shifter them to these areas which works for us.

Our waitstaff was great.

Every other 7 cruise we’ve taken from Galveston had 2 sea days up front, one in the back, the itinerary was reversed on the cruise, with an early arrival Cozumel first. Maybe we liked this because is was different, but not as many ships in Cozumel for us doing it this way, and we like formal nights, and like them more when they are on sea days. Longer day at Grand Cayman this way which makes sense for a tender port.

They’ve cut out some things we like, (the parades) and dessert in the MDR is ordered up front with everything else. The menu is just a single flat tablet and they don’t highlight the everyday selections like they used to: they’re still the same and we knew what they were but not a good deal for less experienced cruisers.

We loved our JS, but do not like being so high (Deck 10) especially this time of year. The kids balcony was much cooler as was their room on deck 7. Other than early morning, our balcony was unbearable, the first time we ever felt like we did not make good use of it.

We’re Diamond, but did not appreciate the diamond lounge, and as DW and I both had a package the diamond drinks were not much use to us. We liked them last time (on Vision) because we could get 3 each at once and enjoy the balcony, but now it’s one per trip and the balcony was too hot for that anyway.

Good selection of slots in the Casino, we went to the as show and it was great as usual. We planned on Skipping Saturday Night Fever (depressing) and seeing In the Air again, but they swapped the shows at the last minute when we were napping.

Ship is in great shape, service better than every. Glad I Double Checked the New Homewood Suites on the island 2 days before sailing. They have a 2 day minimum during the summer, we could not do that so we had something else reserved, but two days out they dropped the requirement and we were able to change.

Glad things were better. We sailed Liberty in the spring of 2017 and enjoyed it. If I recall, they still did the parades then.

So, was your balcony in the sun the entire time? Is that why you are saying it was too hot?

We usually look at the planned route and try to pick the side of the ship that will be shaded in the afternoon. With the Guarantee we got lucky with the shadier side of the ship, but that far away from the water It’s was much warmer than 3 decks down. Not just on the Balcony but also in the room.
