LIVE from the Celebrity SILHOUETTE - 1st Sept to the Fjords - a suite perspective

Over the years cruising vicariously with fellow CC's around the world has given me so much pleasure  that last year when my DW and I cruised to the Canaries I bit the bullet and penned (typed) my own blog. I so enjoyed doing it that here I am again.......

We booked this cruise in November 2016 almost 700 days ago so as you can imagine I have been building up the excitement for a while and in a little more than 24 hours we will be walking up the gangplank......

I will be travelling with my DW and DD (19) in a Royal suite on the hump of deck 10 and we are joined by my MiL who has an aft corner Sky suite on deck 11. So as well as a chance to enjoy the suite life for a few days I plan to film our comings and goings in and out of the Norwegian Fjords. (I obtained a GoPro especially for this purpose and will post the footage either as we go ,WiFi willing , or when I return to the land of 220Mbs.)

Suit cases are down and tomorrow is set for packing, nails and sending the cat to the Pussy Hotel .....

I will try to post our experiences and insights as they happen and answer any questions about the cruise I can... (and of course lay back and enjoy the cruise :cocktail: ;) )

Today is packing day and the final chance to remember all those little things we have forgotten .......

last week on the Monday evening In my eagerness I decided to pre-empt the shoreside team and make first contact. I was eventually put through to the delightful Carrie who asked if I had received the email ok... which I hadn't. She did imediatly re send it and I was pleasantly surprised to note that she had looked out our last stay in an RS and noted down our spirits and mini bar choices in anticipation. This is a nice little touch and if for some reason contact had failed ( as I have heard it has with others on rare occasions) then are bar set up at least would be right.

Carrie also included details of the Exclusive Luggage Drop Off. At about the same time a new thread started with a question about how this service was working along with a post from someone currently on board who had had problems with it. I spoke to her a few days latter about these problems and she said she was addressing them and would issue an amended letter "next week". the arrived a couple of days ago with those changes so I will let you all now tomorrow how it goes. In theory we go to the special drop off point drop our bags and will be escorted to the check in. Luckily we are travelling by taxi so this should be fine but those in their own cars they will have to then go and park and make their own way to check in so not entirely well thought out. Hopefully ones luggage will then be whisked away straight to the suit......... we will see :)

To add a little interest we also received the day before yesterday an email warning us that the normal gate 8 will be closed due the the Southampton boat show so we are instructed to go to the freight gate 10 and allow extra travel time

Finally my first fail... I dropped my linen jacket at dry cleaners paying extra for it to be ready last Friday .......

.... fast forward to Saturday afternoon at 4.30...... aghhhhh .. got to them only to find they closed at 4... and were not due to reopen until the 12th Sept due to summer holidays :eek::eek: . ho hum or words to that effect.

Following along with GREAT INTEREST - looking at this same sailing for next year. Debating between Celebrity and HAL's newest ship which will be sailing a similar itinerary. Love the celebrity experience but a HAL devotee as well - and a brand new ship to boot!

Thanks

Bob

The boat show doesn't open til 14 th so it will be just setting up traffic, there is four ships in tomorrow though so there will be two ships worth of traffic going through one gate which is probably why they have said allow extra time, not usually too bad. Have a great time fjords are amazing and silhouette great too ( was on her in June)

Have a great time! DH and I were in the fjords four years ago on the Infinity and had a wonderful experience. We will be on the Silhouette in February, so looking forward to what you think of her also.

I'm also following because a few days ago I booked the same sailing for 1 September next year on the Silhouette. I hope it's a wonderful experience for you all :).

MrsGoggins, I was booked on this cruise which sails tomorrow but a few months ago changed it to Sept 1 2019.

See you onboard as they say! Meantime I will follow this fine review.
