American Express

A new offer was added to my American Express account last night.

Spend $750 or more at The World's Leading Cruise Lines (Carnival, Princess, HAL, Seabourn, Cunard) and get a $150 credit.

Expires 10/15. There are some exclusions and details.

I plan to call Carnival this morning and pay my balance. We'll see if it works!

I received a similar offer but the offering was 15,000 points for spending the $750. It works out the same as I can turn those points into a $150 Carnival card, which is what we did the last time the offer appeared.

The offer says for new bookings 9/5-10/5. Does anyone know if it will work with paying my balance due for our upcoming cruise?

It worked for paying a balance in the past with the same type of wording.

I paid the remaining balance on our Dream sailing this morning via telephone with Carnival. Received the "Good News. You've Used Your AMEX offer" e-mail right after the payment.

Usually the charge posts to the American Express account in a few days. The credit a few days later.

I had nothing to lose... final payment for our cruise is in a few weeks.

Do you know if this would work if paying for excursions or Cheers?

Thanks Bellebaby!

That's what I'm hoping for. It's odd because I'm the primary account holder and it shows up on my card but only one of my two authorized user accounts (kids).

The computers don't know the difference between the way a new deposit is posted to AMEX and the way a payment is posted. The last time we used this offer it was to pay off an existing balance. This is the 3rd year it's been offered that we've been able to use it.

Our final payment is due before the offer is up and we'll happily take the credit :D

No, those purchases won't qualify. The Amex charge has to come from Carnival as "Carnival Cruise line RSVR" and the charges for excursions and Cheers appear as something different (Carnival Excursions and Fun Shop as I recall).
