Dawn Cabin on Deck 6

Recommended Posts

We will be sailing out of San Juan in Feb/2019. We have booked one of the few cabins (ocean view) located on Deck 6. We have NO experience of how new cruises work...(this is the first cruise for us in 20 years). Hope we did not make a mistake. I think we will be OK since the cabin is near the casino and the DRs. Just wondering if any of you "more experienced" cruise people know anything about these cabins. Thanks in advance.

You did not note the cabin number for a more detailed member report.

Use this LINK to view how the ship is layed out:

https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/Norwegian-Dawn

Click on any deck for more details about that deck.

You must be in one of the only 4 Ocean View cabins port side forward near the Stardust Theatre.

Click on the little camera image for photos of these cabins.

One thing to note if you are near the Casino there is the possibility of cigarette smoke drafting your way.

Deck 6 restaurants Le Bistro La Cucina and MDR Aqua - to get to the MDR Venetian must go up one

deck and then aft and one deck down.

From you location you will have to go through the Casino to get to these restaurants.

Teppanyaki and Bamboo are one deck above (7) from Le Bistro

Cagney's and Moderno up to deck 13 - Buffet on deck 12 - Los Lobos deck 12 port side aft of the Buffet

O'Sheehans up 2 decks (8).

Need more info come back and post for it !

OK.....Thank you! Your link helped a lot to see the layout of the ship. Just wish I knew more about the cabin we r booked in...nearness to casino is a priority to my partner!

I have sailed on the Dawn for Christmas out of New Orleans and last year for Thanksgiving from San Juan. My Cabins were on decks 9 and 10, once in an inside and last year I used the bid system and was upgraded to a balcony. I enjoyed both cabins and locations (mid ship).

Being near the casino can mean lots of places so help me understand "near". To me being a flight up is near, being at the same end of the ship is near, no matter the deck.

Your cabin is almost in the casino. You will likely deal with smoke as you enter and exit. You will walk through the casino to get to the restaurants and a nearby lounge, and just about everywhere, every time. You will also deal with crowds at show or event times as the room is right outside the theater. It is also next to a restroom that is quite busy, because it sits between the casino and theater.

Your location is near a couple of Specialty restaurants (Le Bistro and La Cucina) and the main dining room Aqua but as mentioned not as convenient to the Venetian. You'll be 6 decks below and at the opposite end of the ship as the buffet. If you use the elevator closest to your room up to deck 12 you'll be walking through the pool deck to reach the buffet.

The Dawn isn't a huge ship so even if your partner spends each evening in the casino as I did it was easy to simply walk there from an elevator or stairway.

I hope this was helpful as I sensed a level of uncertainty in your post. NCL is a wonderful line and the Dawn is a great ship to try after a 20 year break from cruising.

My husband and I booked this cabin a couple of years ago because it was close to the casino. This was important to him too. We loved it! It was perfect for us. I am a smoker, but my husband is not. He did not mention the smell of smoke and I certainly did not notice. A neighbor of ours who was not a smoker also said she loved it. She was assigned the cabin as a gty. Best of all, in the mornings there is absolutely no one around! I would book the room again in a heartbeat! So, I guess it just depends on what is important to you!

We are also sailing out of San Juan in Feb on the Dawn. You are on a higher deck than we are: we ended up on deck 4, talk about the bottom of the barrel, but we are not overly worried. Yes, it is barely above sea level and yes it only has a port hole but how much time do you spend in your cabin?

You have a good location for so many activities. I think you will be more than happy and I don't think the smoke will bother you all that much. I know some people are much more sensitive to the smell than others.

I will add, you are going to find cruising so different from 20 years ago. This is not meant to be good or bad, but it is really different. :)

Welcome back into the cruise world. I am thinking this will be a great cruise for all of us.

We have stayed in this cabin and it was wonderful. We never experienced any smoke smell nor a lot of noise. It is very convenient to the theatre and the casino yet is in it's own little hallway so there is no traffic at all other than for those 4 cabins.

If I ever get a chance to sail the Dawn again I would book this cabin!!!!

Enjoy

Thank you. You are such an outstanding, helpful group. Due to freestyle dining, convenient location to eating venues will not be a problem. We'll just eat wherever when hungry. Just a couple more questions:

1. Were the room stewards attentive (since these rooms are kind of off by themselves)?

2. Do you know if the entrance to the theater is the main entrance or balcony entrance on deck 6?

3. Will casino remain open when in port at any of the islands in Caribbean?

quick answers: the entire crew on the Dawn are almost as it God has sent them to us so we will return time and time again. I am sure your cabin steward will be wonderful.

No the casinos are not open when in port.

I believe the entrance to the showroom is deck 6 with the balcony being 7 but can't remember for sure.

The entrance is the main entrance to the theatre.

We met the cabin steward on Day 1 and talked about our preferences for cleaning and turndown. He was the best. Though he may not have been around all we had to do was give him a call and he responded. I would recommend making that interaction when you first meet.

And the casino is not opened on the port days.

Oh wow!! Looks like another Texan has the same cabin on the cruise the week before we leave on the 24th. I have not changed our cabin, though some indicate I should have. Hope you have great cruise...(leave the cowboy boots in the closet). My SO thinks he can survive in jeans and boots. Wonder if they have any Willie Nelson music on the cruise???

If I left my Lucchese’s in the closet I be walking on barefoot. I prefer George Strait and Stevie Ray over the current Willie.

The cabin was not my choice but the result of a winning upgrade bid. So I’m not looking an upgrade fairy in the mouth.

Besides, none of my over 50 cruises have been anything other than great.  Just a matter of attitude!

We rarely saw our cabin steward, but my parents in neighboring cabin did see him more often. He did a great job with morning and evening service on the Star. When done he would move to other decks, to clean other cabins.

No smoke sensed near these cabins, although YES there would be some smoke IN the casino, but not too bad (I am not a smoker, and was still ok in the casino).

Left you a book in the cabin “The Woman in Cabin 10”

Hope you found the book and the cabin as enjoyable as we did!

Great cabin, great cruise. Great times!

We absolutely loved the cabin and the entire cruise! I looked for the book in the library (couldn't find in room) but never saw it. I heard it is a good read though. I would book the cabin again....proximity to the casino was a plus for us!

I tried to hide the book in a desk drawer...they are really good at cleaning out a cabin.

Glad you enjoyed the cabin ...we had a blast .... really liked the ship and would definitely book that cabin again.
