Celebrity cruisers retry HAL after 12 years

We’ve been on ships where there is smoking in the casino. We noticed a smell from smoking in the “attached “ gallery bar. We found someplace else to have a drink since there are plenty of them. We don’t gamble either so it really wasn’t an issue for us

We will be sailing HAL for the first time in 8 years. Since that time we have mainly been sailing on Celebrity. It will be interesting to see what we think now we have been away for so long.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

Thanks for this comparison! We are sailing on HAL for the first time this summer. We are 40 something professionals and we travel with our two teenagers. We are elite on Celebrity. We usually sail in top tier suites.

We originally had booked a similar Med itinerary on X, but it was a B2B which isn’t ideal, and we would need to switch cabins midway. We had an aft penthouse on the 2nd leg which we do love.

So when I saw a similar itinerary on HAL, same length, with a corner aft suite and an adjoining aft suite I booked that too. We were shocked that the 2 suites combined are about half the price of the total trip on X!

Your review puts me at ease that we will enjoy the HAL experience.

Celebrity suite prices went up considerably compared to HAL when Celebrity added all of their suite perks, which HAL does not have.

Thanks for your post making a fair comparison of both HAL & Celebrity .

We have well over 40 sailings with Celebrity . Now as we are getting much older ,we can't easily fly to the East Coast or Alaska .We have done many in these locations in the past .

That being said Celebrity as well as Royal Caribbean have essentially pulled away from California ports . Thus ,we have moved out allegiance over to HAL & Princess ,where we can sail from San Diego or San Pedro & no flying .We drive to those ports .San diego we can get there in 30 minutes & San Pedro takes 1.5 hour drive :D

Another important factor when we compare cruise prices for similar itineraries Celebrity is 10 to 20 % higher . Another plus for us is that we own Carnival stock & those share holder on board credits really adds up ;p. Owning RCL stock many times a pax can't add the share holder credit because RCL restricts it with their package prices

Yes, it’s virtually impossible to get the shareholder credit now on Celebrity because it can’t be “combined” with any promo, and Celebrity has tied a promo (e.g., “free” drink package) to almost all cruises. Transatlantics are one exception where you can still get the shareholder credit, as there are no promos.
