Oriana Questions

Recommended Posts

We are cruising on Oriana in November....very excited.....and wonder if anyone could help with the following please.

When chilly outside, are blankets for knees provided or should I take my own?

What are the pros and cons of the dining times? (any particular events that might be missed etc)

Is the British sail away just on embarkation day or when leaving every port?

Do the washing machines take powder or tablets?

How much do they charge for the art class supplies?

How much do they charge for bingo cards?

Is there a cribbage set onboard?

Is there a backgammon set onboard?

Thank you

Hello FiftyOne Plus - I hope you do not mind me replying to your post when I am not actually answering your questions!

Looking at Oriana's schedule it appears you are likely to be on the 28 night Caribbean cruise? We are on a similar itinerary in February, also on Oriana.

We are people who really like to know what we can expect to do in advance and I would therefore absolutely love to see a set of daily programmes for your cruise to give us an idea.

Is there any way you would be able to keep a set for me and arrange to send them on - needless to say I will reimburse you in advance for the postage.

I would also love to ask lots of questions about Oriana (not having been on her for 15 years) but they would be too tedious to keep posting about.

If this was in any possible it would greatly enhance our cruise in February.

I am not sure if it is the "done thing" on this Forum to ask someone to contact another by email - but my email is "peter.s.smith26@outlook.com". We live on the south coast near Worthing.

As above, I hope you do not mind me replying in this vein.

With kind regards. Peter and Beverley

Hi Fiftyone Plus...4 of us doing same cruise as you. I have never seen blankets offered by P&O for, outside use...so maybe take one for transatlantic days. I always take my own washing powder/liquid and conditioner. They are expensive to buy onboard and as you are not flying, you can take as much luggage as you need. I also take pegs and some hangers as the ones in the wardrobes are usually the slot in type and no good for hanging up your ironing in launderette. Bingo is a joke..it is run by the company that run the casino onboard and they charge a lot and take a high percentage for themselves out of the takings. There is a card room and I think some games available to borrow. We haven’t been on Oriana for years although we have been on other P&O ships. They run a bridge group and a whist drive every afternoon on sea days as well. There is also organised outdoor games such as quoits and shuffleboard weather permitting. Here’s hoping for a great cruise and good weather in the Caribbean.

Hi Jessy, thanks for the reply.

I saw your message in roll call and added my name onto the list.

Thanks for the tips, I think I will take my own blanket....it might come in handy anyway. lol

Another question.....what films are shown in the onboard cinema? How recent are they?

Is it a different film every night or do they rotate weekly, fortnighly?

If you search on P&O website FAQ's you can see a list of films which are being shown.

The Art class materials cost iro £20... cant remember the exact figure might have been slightly yes. Good quality paints, paper brushes etc For a beginner as my husband was, he felt it was good value, and he throughly enjoyed the classes.

Dining on Oriana... personally I would recomend Freedom dining if you have the choice. This gives you the option of going to either of the main shows, and also can fit in somehing inthe show lounge too as well as other entertainment around the ship. It also hives you flexibility as to when you eat. We ate anytime between 6.15pm and 8.45 depending on what we were planning to do in the evening. Also, the Freedom dining restaurant is midships, the dining room at the back has been known to play loud music as the cutlery vibrates !:D In case you were not aware, she can have a bit of a vibration problem at the very back of the ship which is where the “fixed” dining room is.

If you put a dinner time on the personaliser, such as early sitting, can we just eat when we want when we get onboard.....or should I change it to 'Freedom'?

If you have chosen first sitting for dinner on your cruise then this more than likely what you will be given and will be for everyday of the cruise. If you want to change it to Freedom and eat at a time ansd size of table of your choosing then you should contact your TA or P&O depending on who you booked through.

Re the cinema, oriana has a proper cinema so had a film on about 6 times a day! If I remember it’s the same film all day but changes every day too.
