On the Caribbean Princes......

Well, the room steward just came in after that post and discussed the bed. This is the new bed we have on here as he said the are doing away with those built with springs. He offered to go get two new ones and I said OK. Sure enough, they were the same thing. Yes, they are new as date stamped October 2018. He said they can flip them over if you want a little firmer as has two sides. As the pictures show, one side is just a thin mesh covering the foam and the other side has a thin padded cover. I guess you can add a topper to this, just not seeing how it could make it much firmer when the under lying support is just foam. I think this may explain why several have posted they were really soft, and in some of my earlier mattress checks, they were firm, is they may have been old, new stock. Anyway, that is what I found out and going to try and add four pictures, then off to the casino to donate to the crews retirement fund😀

The P/E/S party is filling up Skywalkers in about 20 minutes. Even with the extra staff, the are still averaging 20-25 minutes to get drink orders filled. If we go on the nights we see something we want to snack on, we will just grab a drink on the way up. About half of them clear out after 45 minutes, and might just wait until after the rush. Last nights drink special was some margarita. The snacks this voyage.

------------------------------------------------------------

That's exactly what we do -- take a drink with us.

Very, very nice! Thank you David, for your series of postings on your cruise. Very exciting to enjoy your cruise vicariously along with you and the Mrs.

We have a similar cabin arrangement on the 11/25 sailing so are eating up all that you are posting! Great stuff.

Do you know if people are able to purchase an unlinmted internet package for the remainder of the cruise when they run out of their 250 elite minutes?  I am wondering if I should just purchase the unlimted plan precruise for $99 (2 weeks)   Thanks.   Enjoy your beautiful balcony.  Love the AFT.

On the Royal in July, I made the mistake of not purchasing additional minutes during a special at the beginning of the cruise. I had to pay the full price ($99) when I ran out. If I recall correctly a person in our group who took advantage of the special offer the first couple days paid half of that.

I guess it is best if I wait and see what is offered when I oard.  Thanks  Cindy

Today is a sea and after a while, I am going to try and get to the bottom of the mattress issue. I thought by now, they were all suppose to be swapped out on the CB.  This mattress is really soft, and after looking at the mattress topper selection I posted earlier,   I wanted to see what we had as figured we had the soft version and wanted a firmer one. The first day we boarded, they had a cut away of a mattress sample with a topper somewhere on promenade. Didn’t pay much attention as figured it was a sales pitch.  Tried to find it a few minutes ago after breakfast and no joy. So, in the same fashion I did in other reviews, I started stripping down the bed, looking for tags. What we found, was on the end, was the Princess Luxury Bed label.  I decided to grab a corner and could easily fold it over in half, and was thinking, this can not have springs in it. Since the stitching was loose on the edge, I pulled it back to look at the inside, and it is nothing more than eight inches of solid foam rubber. Not memory foam, the basic light brown foam that flexes back as soon as you take the pressure off it. No wonder we are sinking into it, plus there is no real topper, just a half inch or so of a thicker mattress pad. Certainly don’t want to add the toppers from the selection in the card they left.

We were on the second cruise, post dry dock of the Coral a couple of years ago, and I took that bed down, taking pictures of it as it was new.  If Cinegraphic is reading, I believe he book marked it.  It was nothing like this one and pretty firm. We liked it.

In February 2017, we were here on the CB in a window suite, and also had a new mattress we thought was firm enough, although a little different from the one on the Coral, just based on labeling.

So, I am going to catch the room steward and just ask him to see if knows, since he changes the beds, and also says to ask him about the toppers and pillows. If he is not sure, then will get with hotel manger and ask what’s going on..

Sorry if font is large. Typing in notes on iPad and copying/pasting here to keep from burning minutes. Can’t seem to adjust here and don’t want to spend time trying.

Have you tried highlighting the text and then changing the font size with the tools?

Do you happen to know if the new wine list has been implemented in the dining room?  If not, no biggie. Don't like hearing about soft beds. We are also on the 11/25 sailing and DH will not be happy.

We will try to look tonight if we go to the MDR. Any idea what new wines might be on there if it is the new list?

It’s odd that they claim that the mattress does not have any springs, as they are advertised as having wrapped springs for better support.

BTW....are you still planning on sailing up to Canada next July!? I know you were considering cancelling when the itinerary changed.

Last night was a little improvement with the brand new mattress . It still seems softer than those of a couple of years ago to us. At least there was no sore backs this morning as we both agreed a little better. I wonder if they just have a shorter life based on the construction and wonder just how old those were that were removed.

I know they advertised to sell these beds and wonder how they compare to these we are sleeping on now. We just can’t imagine these foam mattresses being that expensive or luxurious.

Hey - We are still thinking about it, just not sure as falls real close to a motorcycle trip we have started planning in September to the Colorado Rockies. We also wanted to see if we liked the changes they made on the CB, and we do like what we are seeing.

Arriving into St. Thomas a couple of hours early due to medical emergency. Second one this trip as three hours after departing Ft. Lauderdale, had to turn back to meet up with coast guard for a medi-vac. Hope all are doing well.

Dinner menu for tonight, along with arrival shot into port.

David
