Update for the Star, just off her on 3/9/19.  Only smoking areas are port side deck 7, Sky High Bar starboard side, and in the casino.  Smoking was not allowed in H2O or on the pool deck at all.

Thank you for the updated information . . . very much appreciated!!

I have updated information on the Star:

Hate to say this but I think the fight is lost. Ncl keeps making smoking areas smaller and more uncomfortable. They won't have to ban smoking we will just stop going. Didn't cruise with them at all in 2017 after the Breakaway left. We did go on the Escape this past January and couldn't convince anyone to go with us without the smoking area on the waterfront.  Why would anyone spend their money on a cruise where smokers are barely tolerated. They are fully aware how I feel as I have told my casino at sea rep many times how we feel. As long as people continue to go and they are not losing money they have no reason to change their policy.

FYI smokers: We took a TUI cruise from Jamaica if you don't smoke don't get on this ship. Balcony smoking still.

The spreadsheet is great!  I also wish cruise lines would post the exact areas for smokers and non-smokers.  As a smoker I enjoy a comfortable place to relax just like non-smokers.  There should be an indoor smoking room for when the weather is bad and not just the casino.  I hope the cruise lines read these boards.

Was on the Dawn last month, there is currently no smoking on the pool deck.  Other areas remain the same.

I think deck 13 has a smoking section near the bar.  Do you remember which side of the ship it's on?  Thinking about the deck 12 cabins.  Appreciate any help, thanks!

I wonder if the still being built Encore will have an enclosed smoking section for the casino like Bliss.   Also, Joy is going through a makeover which is changing their casino.  Guess we will hear about that one soon.

Encore will have the glass smoking room in the casino and likely Joy too. And, after drydock so will Escape.

Hi Goldmom, as far as I know, no smoking on deck 13, deck 14 has Bimini Bar and there is smoking on starboard side

Thank you!  Yes, I did mean the Bimini Bar.  Appreciate the response!

Carnival does have smoking areas and regularly updated policy listed on their website.  I think it is just laziness (or deception? 🤔) in communicating to guests on NCL.

Just got off the Breakaway and just wanted to provide the following details.

1) Smoking was still allowed in the Haven on the sundeck forward.  Butler did state that cigars were allowed, but did not smoke one there.

2) Port side on deck 15 (the fishbowl) still allows smoking was was very packed most of the time

3) Starboard side of Spice H20 (Deck 16) allows smoking, including cigars (They also have a small counter sized humidor to sell cigars)

4) Humidor on deck 8 near Maltings allows all smoking, but this was the area of biggest issue.  Too make cigarette smokers were taking over the lounge and ended up holding the doors open so that the smoke would clear out, which caused numerous complaints by passengers just sitting in the bar area.  Heard on the ship that this area may be re=purposed in the future.

Can you tell us on how much of the casino is OK for smoking?

Thanks for the update!

I do not recall if smoking was allowed at the table games (even though I did play them once in a while), but about 1/2 of the casino did allow smoking.  The area in the center was non-smoking with a mixture of penny to dollar machines.  A number of machines (not used as often) behind the table games were non-smoking.  The area where a large number of smaller denominations near the players club desk were all smoking.  Per NCL, there is no cigars allowed in the casino.

Does anyone have information for Joy designated smoking areas?

I’m also interested in smoking areas on Joy.  I’ve only seen the casino area if playing and open or the cigar lounge where you can only smoke cigars.  Has anyone been on the ship and have more information?
