CMV Vasco Da Gama Excursions April 24-June 6, 2019

Recommended Posts

Hi

We are Janet and George Harvey from Seattle, Washington,. USA; looking forward to the Vasco Da Gama itinerary. We are viewing You Tube films about each port of call. Then we review the ship's excursions and try to decide what works best.

Tonight we decided on a private tour guide for Casablanca - in an air-conditioned mini-bus that holds 8+ travelers. We want to see Rabat, have lunch at a Casablanca restaurant "Lascala" or at  "Nkoi", visit the Souk, maybe walk on the boulevard, and have coffee in any 5-star hotels with nice bathrooms. Finding a musical concert or folk performance would be a bonus. We believe that a smaller group will allow flexibility. We are in good shape and well-traveled although we are age 75 and 71. Now, we are looking for cheerful folks who would want to share the mini-bus to Rabat and going around in Casablanca, with a nice lunch too. Please email if that sounds like you. Harvjf1@gmail.com.   Thank you.

Hi Pauline & Mac,

Jim and I are also looking forward to this cruise and we also are interested in perhaps joining any excursions that fellow CC arrange, particularly the ones in the more unusual ports of call.

Cheers  Gayle & Jim

We are Russ and Melinda from Florida.  We are also booked on the Vasco de Gama.  This is our first cruise that is for longer than 14 days.  I'm concerned about what type of cell phone I should have.  I presently have a IPhone 8 with service from Verizon.  Should I use that while in port or should I purchase a different phone?  Looking forward to meeting everyone.  I'm interested in learning about different excursions.

Hi

We have a Verizon I-phone too. We called Verizon and they had a deal last year for traveling outside the United States. The deal was around $10 per day whenever you use your phone in a port. If you are at sea (no nearby port) or if you choose not to use your phone, then no $10 charge. However, not every port city has a Verizon cell tower so the roaming charges would apply instead of the $10 charge. Verizon provides a list of locations with the $10 per day deal - call them at 611.

We found that using google maps took a great deal of data when traveling. This got expensive.

Once we used our phone on the back deck of a ship while docked in Vancouver BC (we live in Seattle - not too far away) but we left our telephone "on" and it roamed for all of our incoming email messages - turned out to be very expensive.

We hope to download maps for each port city before we leave home. I am taking my I-pad, loaded with books and maps. I plan to connect with family by email and email pics. Instead of postcards, we can send pics to folks who like snail mail by using Postcardly.com

I am trying to figure out the best way to pay bills while away for so long - certainly, we would need a secure (not public) connection to our bank. I will call our bank to make sure that the bill-paying service will work while we travel.

CMV suggested bringing Euros for ports and Pounds for onboard (Casino). There is not an ATM on the ship.

Hi Pauline & Mac,

How are you going with your excursions... I am up to Salalah and finding it hard work.

We have decided not to do the Taj Mahal tour as we will miss 3 days of cruising... another time...

Cheers Gayle & Jim

Hi Gail, nice to hear from you again. We are looking at the visas...we have been to Cochin a couple of times now so we are thinking we won't get off there. We asked the India Gov site if we only disembark at Goa & Mumbai can we get an e visa & they said that would be ok. So will sort it all out soon.

You can email me on biik1944@gmail.com

cheers, Pauline & Mac x

Nice to hear from everyone.  I have looked at excursions all the way up to Safaga (Egypt) and we booked the Cruise tour for Valley of the Kings.  We have also decided not to do Taj Mahal.  A lot of prep work to prepare for being away from home for so long.

Russ and I are mid-60's from The Villages, Florida and looking forward to meeting all of you.

Hi Russ and Melinda

maybe you are wondering where everyone went? These cruisers are on the VDG roll call which is under all other cruise lines.

if you are still on this cruise you may care to join us. Not long now and folks are planning excursions in earnest.

I am keeping a list of cruisers on that roll call so we can do a M&G (informally as CMV does not usually do a CC one).

Hope to see you on the roll call and/or on the ship.

cheers

Liz
