That ping looks suspiciously low.

I noticed a big difference in the speeds between my first cruise last year on Liberty right after they did the upgrade and the one I completed at the end of August this year.

Last year the speed was much faster. I was able to stream music everywhere and upload photos with no problem. This year when streaming music I had a lot of buffering going on and uploading photos was way much slower. I found the best place to upload photos was down outside on deck 5.

Oh and by the way Tree skier I'm enjoying the review. Makes me home sick for my Lady Liberty. :classic_biggrin:👍

Welcome to Cozumel.

Today we have some kind submarine tour in the morning. It’s supposed to be wrapped up by 1130 so we’ll probably do a little shopping in the afternoon too. But then again, I might just do nothing

Last  night I tried the 80s music trivia. Unfortunately I only scored 15/20 and was way out of the prizes. The winner had a 20/20 score. Then I went back for “Encore” the skating show. As I mentioned before, I absolutely loved it. It was just as good the second time.

But it now it’s time for breakfast.

Thanks Jimbri, the submarine was exactly as advertised. It was a bonified submarine. It took us to just over 100 ft below sea level. We saw a shark Manatees and scores of fish. There were also some very interesting coral reef formations. Unfortunately the pics aren’t great.  I haven’t had a chance to edit the pics yet. I phone through the glass doesn’t do what we saw justice.

After our submarine tour and a little bit of shopping we headed back on board for a little lunch.  There has been so little exercise since getting on this ship i’m starting feel lethargic. Besides walking around on the hallways and maybe a few flights of stairs a day when I don’t feel like waiting for the elevator, I have done very little in the way of fitness.  I have seen the fitness centre (how could I miss it, it’s on the same deck as Windjammer) but I have certainly not darkened it’s doors. So I thought a little exercise was in order.  I went. Upstairs and decided to shoot some hoops.

I’m not sure its going to make up for the excessive eating, lounging and dessert eating that I have been doing all week long but least my conscience is clear. Afterwards, back to eating drinking and lounging.

Tonight is formal night so back to the cabin to shower up and start getting ready for that.  Dinner tonight is MDR but honestly after lunch in Windjammer, snacking in Sorrento’s, four Mango Tango’s at the sky bar to recover from b-ball and an ice cream from the self serve at the pool I almost don’t want to eat...

Evening update... I ate 😁

MDR was good,  I had tortellini and DW had Burremundi (sp).  Tonight the main entertainment is a standup comedian and a juggler so were giving that a pass.  A few laps around the promenade to see everybody in their finest and an early night for us.

Tomorrow is our last our last day and a sea day.  I’m determined to conquer the Flowrider.  A few rides on the water slides and a round of mini golf and that should wrap up reliving my youth on this cruise.  If something bad and painful is going to happen tomorrow it shall be.

The excursion I booked was called Royal Aerial Adventure.something or other.  It was $ 50. I thought it was only going to include one zip line trip and one float down canal but they said I could ride repeatedly and use the water slides.  I’m not sure what the difference is between the one I paid for and the higher priced one they offer on the cruise planner.  They both go to the same place and they let me ride what I wanted to.  I didn’t try and ride the zip coaster so maybe that was part of what wasn’t included.  The zip lines I rode were the conventional ones that went from platform to platform.  I had three to choose from not including the zip coaster and I rode two.  I rode three different  water slides and I think I could have rode them all.  Maybe there were some that weren’t included that I never tried to ride.

Thanks.

Glad to hear you loved Chops. It gets mixed reviews, and I know it varies by ship, but I have lunch and dinner booked for our Freedom cruise. Hope our experience is as great as yours!

Still loving and following your adventures!

I agree completely, but if its of any interest to you, my two best Chop's visits were on Freedom.

Welcome back to the middle of nowhere. Got up early this morning and enjoyed a beautiful Caribbean sunrise. An amazing way to start the day. The pool deck is all but deserted this morning.  A handful on the track on deck twelve and four of us on eleven with our morning coffee.  This is the last day... It’s almost enough to make sad.... Nah, sad will be for tomorrow.  This sunrise looks to good and today  is going to be amazing.

Well the last day was very good. After a leisurely start to the day with breakfast in Windjammer I got back to the Flowrider.

Success! I got up and stayed up.  I actually did a little better later on but this was the first time I managed to get up on my knees and stay there but there is no video of that.  A late lunch in the Windjammer then off for a good afternoon.  After the nap a little mini golf which I managed to lose to my wife. More R&R on the 13th deck and then we went back to the cabin to begin packing.

We had dinner in the MDR one last time, said goodbye to our waiter and waiters assistant and did one last lap around the ship and went to our cabin.  We had thought about the evening entertainment but we were just to wore out.  It had been a great trip and we just wanted to finish getting ready to disembark.  Of course than means because I went to bed so early that I was up at 530 am.

Were back in Galveston, putting the final touches on our packing and going to see what kind of breakfast options there are on the last day.  We have loved our time on the ship.  Everything went well and we are now dedicated cruisers.

We spend the day in Galveston today and fly back home tomorrow.  I’ll check in with you all a little later.

This was last night off our deck just before we were heading to dinner.

Greetings from the airplane.  Sorry I’ve been negligent since getting off the ship.  We debarked (is that the right word?) Sunday morning.  We had breakfast in the Windjammer early.  Surprisingly they had the full break available.  I don’t know why, but I thought that I had read somewhere here that that was not the case. Perhaps I was mistaken, either way full breakfast service was available so we stuffed ourselves one last time. We did the self assist and were off the ship and waiting for our shuttle at 9 am.  It was a resonablly orderly process except for a few passengers that were determined to board our elevator when clearly it was already full.  They simply turned around and backed in pushing me backwards into young girl who was crushed between me and another large fellow against the glass. Uncomfortably their backside was pressed right up against my groin.  I pushed back. It was awkward.

We had decided that instead of rushing strait to the airport we would spend the day in Galveston. Unknown to us it was the annual Bikers Rally all week long in Galveston.  That definitely changed the feel of the downtown area. Biker culture is not really our scene. So we Uber’d over to the Seawall side found a mexican restaurant and killed some time until our hotel room was made available. Once in the room I promptly fell asleep....

Apparently a week of R&R is to much for me nowadays. I woke up at six, we had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe and called it a night.

This morning we used the Galveston Express Shuttle to get from the hotel to IAH.  Great service and I highly recommend them.

A few random thoughts...

One the never ending discussions that takes place here on CC is dress on formal night.  On this particular cruise I would say that 80% of the folks that I saw dressed up for formal night.  By dressed up I mean at least a jacket and tie and the women in some sort nice looking dress or pant suit.  Another 15% I would consider business causal, read Docker’s and a collared shirt. The other 5% were very casual.  Based on what I have read here on CC I would say that my experience was not typical.

Internet was good most of the time it there were time when it clearly can’t handle the volume.  No real complaints though, except for watching a hockey game I wanted to see  I was able to do this live review, text using iMessage, upload pics to CC, upload videos to YouTube, upload tonnes of pics to my iCloud photo stream for folks back home and generally surf the internet on whatever site I wanted.  I even viewed my security camera back home.  Oddly Hulu worked sporadically but amazon prime video worked all the time.  I have no explanation for that. VPN didn’t work so  didn’t do any banking or other higher security kind of stuff.

The complaints I have read here at CC about Windjammer being like Golden Corral are nonsense in my opinion.  I was happy with everything that I that got, the service we received from folks walking among the tables was good.

Bar service was great, I had the deluxe drink package but I don’t think I broke even on it. Sea days I was ahead of the game and port days I was probably behind.  However, it was nice not worrying about the price of things and how much I was spending on a daily basis.

Cafe Promende made great Latte’s and I would say they were every bit as good as anything you buy at Starbucks.  Just plain coffee was weird.  It didn’t matter if it was Windjammer Cafe Promenade or any other dining venue. Some days it was great other days it was dishwater. Oddly there was no middle ground or consistency to when it would good or bad.

I’m not a gambler.  I spent a little time in the casino.  I about broke even surprisingly.  When it was all said and done I had about $5 worth of Casino Royals points.  I don’t think that that is going to get any kind of casino offers though. I don’t really like all the smoke so any long term hanging around the casino is never going to happen for me.

I talked to NextCruise. With the cancellation of RCi’s OBC NextCruise prices worked out a little bit cheaper because they let you put that towards the actual cost of the cruise.

Johnny Rockets was deserted every time I walked by it.  I never went myself.

We stayed at the Hilton both before and after the cruise.  I strongly recommend you give it a pass.  I’m a loyal Hilton member with Gold status but this place just misses the mark in so many ways.  Service is indifferent at best sullen at worst.  I will not be back and have emailed both the hotel and corporate.  I don’t expect them to do anything but I thought would let my comments be known.

We had nobody ask us for 10s in the survey and there was only one little interruption by the head chef on the last night to acknowledge the staff.  It wasn’t a problem or over done, in my opinion.

The Flowrider is a must if you can brave it... Don’t let the line of kids and teens discourage you.  Show them us older folks still have it...

We tipped extra both our waitstaff and cabin attendants and we didn’t give them any little trinkets from home :classic_biggrin:

There was a large LGBTQ group onboard.  I had read that sometimes extremely large groups can be a problem, this one was not.  Except for some serious sparkle on some of the guys outfits you’d hardly have noticed.

If I come up with any more add it later.

Thanks for following along this was a lot of fun.

  • 6 months later...

I know that this live review is a little bit stale but I finally got around to putting together a little video of it.  I'm not much of a videographer but it was fun putting it together.

  • Thanks 1

Thank you Tree_skier!!

I sailed Liberty the week after you and I used your review to get myself psyched-up for my cruise. And now, watching your video helped me relive my cruise.

And you did a fantastic job with the video
