fizzy1 Posted November 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2018 Can anyone tell me if Cunard are ok with passengers decorating the outside of their staterooms doors . Thanks
pepperrn Posted November 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2018 Not something I like to see because of the fire hazard. Those passageways are escape routes.

Bell Boy Posted November 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2018 I do have to smile at this , so sorry 🤭 This sort question has been the subject on several other boards the last few weeks . Interesting to see this question has come from one of my Brit Cousins ( decorating stateroom doors is is usually an American tradition ) If you want my answer; Just as long as you don't use hard tape or pins that can take the varnish of the door. Those hardworking stateroom stewards/ess have enough work to do on disembarkation day dismantling and covering up marks etc. I've never really understood why some folks go in for this sort of thing, isn't there enough professional festive decoration around the ship. Often the reply is " It helps us to identify our cabin from all the others" So what do folks do when out of all the various festive seasons, birthdays, anniversaries etc etc . 😉
fizzy1 Posted November 18, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Hahaha !!! I was going to put up a HUGE picture of a porthole covering the whole of the outside door !!!!!! NO !!!!! Just kidding . British humour . Was thinking of a nice wall magnet depicting one of the fabulous old Cunard/ Whitestar posters . Just love them . It does make it easier to identify our cabin after a late night !! Edited November 18, 2018 by fizzy1
Underwatr Posted November 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 18, 2018 On QM2 at least, I've found that magnets don't stick to the door. But the corridor walls work just fine. At Christmas I put some magnetic snowmen, evergreen trees, etc. near where the stateroom number is mounted.
pepperrn Posted November 18, 2018 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2018 I've been on two pre-Christmas crossings, and two pre-Christmas Caribbean cruises. On a couple of these there have been notes in the Daily Programme on one or two days asking passengers to remove all door decorations for "safety reasons". I gathered that some had "got out of hand", although I never saw any that were too "over the top" myself.
majortom10 Posted November 18, 2018 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) Some stateroom doors were decorated with Halloween items on our recent QM2 TA. Edited November 18, 2018 by majortom10
Lanky Lad Posted November 18, 2018 #10 Share Posted November 18, 2018 I got off QM2 today and there were two cabins near mine with pictures / magnets on the door. These were there all week so I guess that means it is tolerated.

Lakesregion Posted November 18, 2018 #14 Share Posted November 18, 2018 You should see the fabulous collection of door magnets I have assembled over the years. Something to do on those long inside walks on dreary days.

pepperrn Posted November 18, 2018 #16 Share Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) This is a printed plastic sheet sellotaped to a cabin door on QE earlier this year. Fine? Not fine? Edited November 18, 2018 by pepperrn
Rare Jack E Dawson Posted November 18, 2018 #17 Share Posted November 18, 2018 On the two QM2 TA's that we have been on we have noticed a number of cabin entries decorated but certainly less than 10%. Nothing over the top and usually the cabin number sconce, which also acts as a mail box, is what is actually decorated. We have always noticed that those folks that do decorate always seem to be some of the nicest, friendliest and fun-loving people on the ship. Thanks If only there were some way to - I dunno - contact them directly ...https://www.cunard.com/contact-us/ I mean, most examples of this practice are fairly cringey, and just seem like they'd be inconvenient for the shipboard staff who have to pick the remains off the floor, or clean up tape residue, or confront passengers who interfere with fire safety. Can't imagine many (any?) hotels would allow it, and it hardly seems to align with the classy decorum that everyone seeks in Cunard. But ... you do you.

Glitter is not going to be a cleaner's friend. Yes, it is festive, but consider the added work. Look for a glitter free alternative. I just got off a cruise and as mentioned, 'cringe worthy' was my impression of the door art. I would say 97% of the doors had no decor and I didn't hear complaints of people misidentifying their cabin. Just read the number, or in the early days, if necessary, put a Post It on your 'number' until you are familiar with it. Then that is different from the original post premise and they have taken the glitter issue into consideration. Personally, this little sprig is a lot nicer than the full on door decor. Christmas seems to bring out a little more decor. I have battery operated Christmas lights planned - for inside the cabin.
