Hi

My husband & I are going on the above cruise on the 10/01/19. Have reserved tours on ship as we found researching for independent tours difficult or impossible. What experience have other passengers had?

Is this a new itinerary? Thanks. Looking forward to our cruise.

My hubby and I are on this cruise. The CMV Shore Excursion prices are quite reasonable compared to some cruise lines. If an interesting ShoreX is offered by CMV, we sign up.

Which ports are you interested in the non-ship Shore Excursions? I have additional information for tours in Cozumel and Costa Rica. Cartagena has several options for city tours. I would post specifics, but Cruise Critic admins delete posts with too much external (useful) information.

We are on this sector too, but have no other info other than given by C&M. I think this is a new trip for them. We start with the previous cruise in December 16th from Tilbury. Where do you embark?

We embark in Cozumel. I have actually booked every tour with C&M as finding independent options really tricky. Perhaps we can meet up?

Hello

We have now booked every tour with CMV as their tours were actually reasonable.

How do we meet up on the cruise if you'd like too?

I have been to North Carolina twice.

If you need excursion advice let me know. Just done Panama Canal with RCL. Don't know your ports of call. Booking Magellan for 2020......

Roatán (Honduras)

Puerto Limón (Costa Rica)

Cartagena (Colombia)

Colón for Panama City (Panama)

Transit Panama Canal

San Juan del Sur (Nicaragua)

Hi

Had my sail date changed from March 31st so would appreciate any information on the above ports of call. Belize our first port has also been cancelled over the past week due to a change of flight too. Unsure of why so many changes but making planning excursions in advance more challenging.

Hi Cruise Madam and Sailing Biggles,

We would love to meet up if someone wants to choose a time and place. Contact me at drei911s <<at>> mindspring <<dot>> com. We are in #1103. I was disappointed to see a late check-in (3p). We must check out of our hotel by 11a. We will be in Cozumel, staying near the airport, beginning Monday (7 January) afternoon if anyone wants to get together before embarkation!

Hi Cruise Madam

Thank you for the note under the door a couple of days before we disembarked. I called a few times but no reply. I was quite sick on the cruise and got the dreaded virus, We all called it the Magellen Cough, so I was not good company for the last 7-10 days. I had 4 days of visits to the hospital for an IV drip for antibiotics, some tablets and test and a bill for £3,200.00 !!! And I still have the bug!!! It had been on the ship from when we embarked at Tilbury and enroute home on the flight, all you could hear was cough, cough cough!

Flights are another story, I expect someone will post soon. We were on the later flight and had food after Barbados, after a 3.5 hour flight from Costa Rica to Barbados. I gather the earlier flight did not take on catering and had to fly around Columbia, changing the flight plan and went to Jamaica due fuel etc. No catering could be taken on board and all that they had were nuts, crisps, a healthy bar, drinks and 200 meals to share around 400 pax. The whole thing has been a shambles, we were not even told before departure that there was no food until after Barbados! We should have been and could have taken a decent luncheon, it was available, but most folk assumed that we would have an evening inflight meal.

Over and out.

Hello Sailing Biggles

Thanks for your report sorry to hear you were poorly & to have missed meeting you.

Well I hardly know where to begin my Story. Two weeks before the cruise we learnt that instead of flying to Cozumel we flew to Cancun missing as you know Belize & the Mayan Ruins. Our Embarkation to the ship was nothing short of gruelling. One hour to wait for luggage at Cacun then a 45 minute coach ride to Playa del Carmen where we had a 20 minute walk to the key side 20 minutes of queuing to get on the ferry (1 rickety gangplank) then 40 minute diesel choppy crossing walk to ship shamble of queuing to embark then onto face to face with Mexican authorities. No apologies at any time from CMV or the captain. We went several times to complain to the reception about our treatment & asked for some on board credit not just for us but for all our travellers, deigned. A few emails bounced back from London they quoted "Force Majeure"!

We also had to change our cabin from 5165 to 6112 because of the engine noise.

The swimming pool was not filled for 3 days.

We also felt some of the tours were expensive for what they were & the content poor.

Had an apology been given & some kind of gesture of goodwill at the onset we would have probably overlooked small niggles. I can only conclude that their reputation is not as valued to them as other companies.

We have written to our cruise company & they will look into these complaints on our behalf.

We thought the food & waiters good. Our cabin stewards were lovely. The manoeuvre through the canal was a highlight.

Anyway an experience never to be repeated with this company.

Glad to be home.

Agreed the Dining room staff were brilliant and also our Cabin stewards, our suite was lovely. We did not rate the food. It was mediocre. Often the taste was there but meat tough (stroganoff, bourguinoune, casseroles etc). It just needed another hour in the oven! We felt like a turnip or a carrot after the first cruise as we had very few fresh greens). Day time entertainment, well the daily programme said it all. Most events were unhosted and I did not travel 8,000+ nautical miles to attend Knit and Natter! Ah well, may try them again but not on Magellen, Marco Polo was far superior in 2014, we did the Amazon trip and loved it! Choose a good cabin though.

Hello

The food tends to be fairly bland on cruises, we are always mystified that when we are visiting a country why local ingredients are not used eg mangos & pineapples when in central America.

Although our waiters were good our head waiter did not want to communicate with us & to be honest the commis waiter was socially shy let's say. We found most of the staff curt.

I laughed out loud when you commented about unhosted events exactly what we thought, cheap.

Still we are stinging from the CMV experience …….there customer care was woefully inadequate.

Sorry to  you but if issues could have been sorted out on the ship our opinion of the company would have been very different. It was if they had never cruised before.

Hi all

Sounds about right. we had the 31st of March cruise cancelled altogether and were informed in December, only that I was recovering from surgery was I able to undertake the January sailing; as a school teacher it normally leaves me little flexibility. Initially they wanted £800 to change the sail date, which they had cancelled! After some negotiation I manged to secure the date of January 10th at no extra cost. However I too endured the Cozumel flight change, Cancun etc so really missed out on 2 ports at the beginning. A half day in Cozumel and Belize. Had it not have been the Panama Canal I feel I probably would have cancelled when they called in December. The saga continued for us too on the return flight. Off the ship at 9a.m., coach to airport in Costa Rica, flight to Miami delayed by an hour; flew at 3. Had to race through Miami airport to make our connecting flight with a lady carrying an express sign, though immigration and security still had to be endured. From Costa Rica to Miami no food was supposed to be provided however a very kind American Airline air steward took pity on us and gave us what he had left free as it was only going to go in the bin at the end of the flight and we knew we had no time to spare at Miami airport itself. Thank you Bill (William)!!!! Joined Miami to London Heathrow with minutes to spare and thankfully soon got a choice of beverage to be followed by a meal and in flight entertainment. Off at Heathrow to join a coach to Gatwick as my return flight to Scotland was from there, as in December was supposed to be flying into Gatwick - another late change - only indicated to me 1 week before we left. Arrived in Gatwick thankfully in time to catch the 1p.m. flight, that got delayed by an hour. Arrived home at 4.30p.m. Tuesday 22nd January - having disembarked the Magellan at 9a.m. on Monday 21st January. Jet lag has been a nightmare. We were escorted by a member of CMV all the way and she did say this was their first attempt at doing fly-cruise and it certainly showed. I hope they realise how difficult this journey was for everyone regardless of age and physical ability. However I particularly felt for the blind woman in my group and those with limited mobility, this journey was not for the faint hearted. I too aim to address this with my travel agent and CMV now that I can actually string a sentence together......

OMG so sorry to hear your travel experiences too. I too plan to submit a report to my travel agent who will then investigate & contact CMV on our behalf. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story the more passengers that do the better & stronger any action. We too are suffering badly from jet lag.....over the years we have been fortunate to go on many cruises & this is the worst one ever!

Practically zero customer care & 10/10 for trying to pull the wool, I believe there has been a coverup. Treated like animals with no RSPC inspector in attendance!

Let's keep in touch.

Good luck

Sorry to repeat not an apology to be had

Have just sent a very long email to my travel agent sharing the experience we had from start to finish with lots of detail. Unsure if better to email CMV directly, awaiting her advice. Will keep you posted.

As you say the more people that highlight their experience the better. Won't rest until I get some form of apology at the very least.

No complaints about the staff on the ship or the sailing overall . As you say a good price for the package however having experienced a fly-cruise on numerous occasions I have never had to endure such a lengthy and complicated process to board a ship! Nor have I had a sailing cancelled on me 9 months after booking(in December) and 3 months before the sail date(March), with no apology and initially an extra charge asked for, or the wrong airport printed on my invoice(for the alternative January sailing)which was only realised when I called CMV with regard to paying my tips in advance.

We have already had quite a correspondence going with C&M regarding this cruise. We have now switched from email to old fashioned letters, that cannot be ignored.  Basically C&M are stonewalling us and Virgin Atlantic are stating that C&M deal with compensation.  I am referring here to the mysterious happenings on the flight from San Jose to Gatwick.  Will we ever find out what really happened?  Why on earth would Colombia refuse permission for that Virgin flight to enter their airspace?

What were those thousands of people doing watching our plane take off?

Our claim is simple as it can be.  We had upgraded the flight from Economy to Premium at a cost of £800.  We didn't even receive a service that could be described as Economy.  No food, and very limited water.

I detected a note of panic in the voice of the Captain as he relayed his messages to the passengers on the flight.

How many times he said that he would inform us all as soon as he had any information I have no idea.  It was a lot - in fact so many times that I finally decided that "This guy isn't telling us something".

I was proved correct, and one of the cabin crew actually blew a bolt when I asked for some food.

Hello RobinDonkey

Sorry to hear your news about your return flight & an unsuccessful claim for compensation. Was your return flight the early one to Gatwick on the 21/1/19? We too have written to our travel agent with our complaints C&M have 28 days to reply. Fingers crossed we will get a positive reply.

Hi there.  I'm not sure whether we were on the early or later flight, I didn't know that there were two.

We were on the one that didn't fly to Barbados as planned, but went to Montego Bay where there was no "catering".  In all people went 15 hours without food. I did actually hear a person say that it was probably all for the best as we had all been eating too much anyway.  Not really the point though, is it?  We are especially miffed as we had paid £800 to upgrade the flight.
