Did the op ever get around to asking the question?

So after the line space following the background/context you’ll find the question. No one else had trouble finding it, need me to draw you a diagram? Don’t be that guy/girl😉

We also are big drinkers. We drink throughout the day on a cruise and are no where near hammered, Our experience on the Vista was yes the bartenders would let us pay for a drink before the 15. I never got close but my husband did a couple of nights. Also often one of us would take both cards to the bar and get us both drinks. Just easier then both going to the bar every time. I know this is against the rules but we could have used my card to let my DH have more drinks. Also I know this is flame full but I often used my card to get non alcoholic mixed drinks or smoothies for my daughter at the bar. We always tip when we get drinks and found all the bartenders to be great and always got quick service.

If 15 drinks are not enough, can't you find a non-Cheers friend to buy you a drink? you might have too spot him/her a little cash.

I have heard it all depends on the bartender, I believe previously you had to start buying before you hit drink #12.

Another option you could do is purchase some beer from carnival fun shops and have it delivered to your cabin each day.

If two of us have Cheers, and one hits the 15 drink limit, can the other person buy drinks for the one who hit the limit? For example, I only had 10, I could buy a bucket of beer for him?  Or order 2 drinks and pay for one?

First, any drink you buy for a friend has to be paid with S&S card, you can't do this with your Cheers credits (the no sharing rule).  Second, a bucket of beer is not covered by Cheers, only individual drinks.  However, in theory, you might get away with buying two drinks (one for yourself using your Cheers, and one for your friend who maxed out their Cheers using your S&S), but I wouldn't do it in front of a bartender that knows your friend is maxed out because they would likely not allow it.

Ok before any negative nannies get on here, I've looked and haven't found the answer. My wife and I are new to Carnival and have only cruised once(RCCL). We're getting the cheers package. I understand the 15 drink limit and I know why they do it($), so all those who call me an alcoholic(I'm not, they go to meetings) or judge me get your nose out of the air. On our Royal cruise I hit 15 drinks and I wasn't remotely hammered. Had my first drink at 9 had 4 before lunch, after lunch had 5 more before dinner. Had 2 drinks at dinner with my meal, had 3 more during activities then went to the casino and had 4 more playing blackjack. So that's 18 for those that aren't great at math(I'm with you had to use my fingers, I wrote this down because we chose Royal because of the drink limit. only reason I knew how many drinks I had), and I had a good consistent buzz all day, never plastered. Full disclosure I'm 6' and 230lbs.

Now my question can I drink 13 or 14 drinks and pay with my S&S card for 2 or 3 then buy the last one or 2 with my cheers program? How would that work? Thanks for any answers/feedback.

You could also buy a bottle (or bottles) of your alcohol of your choice to have delivered to your room.    Make a few drinks for yourself each day.   Way cheaper than buying some drinks in between the cheers drinks

I'm sure this has been brought up before and I'm probably being "that guy", but it still puzzles me why they completely cut you off after 15. I understand having a limit for how many are included in the package, that's part of their bottom line and 15 is the number the bean counters decided was were the profit stopped, but you can't even purchase any additional drinks after that limit, although as others said, technically I could buy a dozen "for a friend" before the 15th drink, but not after. I mean, I'm assuming if I don't have Cheers, I have no such limit and could technically buy as many drinks as I want as long as I'm not cut off by the bartender for being obviously wasted. But, with Cheers, no matter my intoxication level, I'm automatically cut off after the 15. Makes no sense honestly.

I think memoak nailed it below:

Carnival's partner line Princess also has a 15 drink cut off but they will allow you to buy more after hitting the limit as long as the bartenders or managers agree that you are not drunk.  I think Carnival ships are worried about couples sharing the package more so than Princess

I agree that the cut off is not based on intoxication, but more the likely hood that sharing was involved to reach 15 (not everyone, but enough to ruin it for the day-long drinkers).

think this should be fine if one of you accidentally hits 15.  You are paying and not sharing included drinks, so not violating your Cheers agreement.  The second person is prohibited from purchasing anything else, but not consuming (if I remember correctly).

Wow thanks for all the responses guys!

So from what I’m gathering my best bet is either getting my wife to buy me one OR “buying one for a friend”.

So on royal they they just swiped the sea card, I’m guessing if you have cheers you just tell the bartender “I’m buying this one/charge this to my account”?

I think if you know early in the day that you are likely to hit 15, purchasing a bucket of beer/cider, a pitcher or fish bowl of favorite mixed drink, or discounted bottle of wine (doesn't count against 15) would be the most cost effective.  Otherwise, once you hit drink 12 and think you will have several more you would let the server know it is a purchase to charge and not a Cheers drink.

I too agree it's not about intoxication, otherwise everyone on board would be limited to how many drinks they can have in a day, I don't believe they "nailed it".

On Carnival, they require everyone in a cabin who is 21 or over has to buy a package. On Princess, from what I can see by the terms on their website, they don't have that requirement. So, if it's about sharing, it seems more likely the limit on Princess would be more about preventing couples from sharing a package than on Carnival.
