Just back from Conquest 01/08/06-01/15/2006

Recommended Posts

Wow what a trip.

We have just arrived home after a 10 hr drive.

1st of all embarkation:

It was a breeze, we stayed at Harbor House and we walked to the terminal. We had 4 suitcases and two carry-ons (yea I know it was to much) anyway it was it was fairly easy. Up the escalator we went and stood in line to go thru security. We were finished and on board in 45 min.

Cabin

We had a wrap-around on upper deck #6452 very nice room lots of light and lots of balcony. It was spotless and our steward was the best, our ice bucket was never left empty and towels were always refreshed. He was very friendly. I told him we would go home with him he was due to leave for vacation soon. (HE WAS FROM BALI)

Entertainment

We really didn't care for the Las Vegas Style shows but Deja was very good as was the ventriloquist. He interacted with the crowd. Very funny.

I'm sure there was a lot going on that we missed but we enjoyed our cabin and balcony very much. I would also like to say meeting up with the cruise critic buddies was great. CoConut Willie was the 1st one we met hello to all of and hope you made it home OK.

Cruise Director Todd

I personally did not see or hear any of the negative things that were said about Todd in previous threads. He was very informative.

Food

It was the same every morning on Lido deck BUT there were many different items to choose from so you didn't have to have the same thing over and over unless you wanted to. We had our evening meal in the main dining room the Monet. Our head waiter was a hoot He was from Croatia he was very attentive. One evening at the table next to ours a little girl was cold.....he brought her a table cloth to wrap up in, we were all very pampered. The last night I ordered the Delice of the Sea ( I think that was what it was called) any way it was way to fishy he sensed I didn't care for it and he brought me a rib eye. The pizza was ok but the cook was like the soup **** on Seinfeld. The minute steak sandwiches were great as well as the fish and chips and sushi. I love oysters but i couldn't handle the bluepoint oysters I'm sure they would have been great but all that stuff they wrapped them up in was  . Thats enough on the food these are just my opinions, just try everything and see what you like.

Oh yea the Ruebens were exelannta as Tamara said over and over.

Casino

Only one thing to say I'm $500.50 richer with less than $20.00 in.

Ports of Call

Montego Bay

We did the Rafting on the Martha Brea. The rafting was great but you will be nickled and dimed to death. They were really pretty tricky we were picked up in front of the ship but we were let off next to the ship in a shopping area we were told to follow the yellow line as it had you walk by every shop and they were waiting on us. I felt like we were cattle being led to slaughter. If this happens to you move as fast as you can to get out of there. I think this could have been better if I had felt safer. I personally would not like to go back to this port. Maybe the other shore tours were better if anyone cares to comment on what they did maybe I might try it if I decided to get off the ship:(

Cayman Islands

We just shopped at this port if you go the shops the the right as you get to the pier the prices are cheaper for the same items. We went to Eden Rock which was right there as you get off the ship and had a cold one. There were snorklers in the water and a girl was throwing fish in the water there were small dolphins there it was really interesting and fun to watch.

We liked this port:)

Cozumel

We did the Myan Ruins at Tulum shore tour. The tender going to the mainland was very comfortable. The ruins were incredible and our guide was very knowledgable. If you have not been and you do go make sure to look over the cliffs the water was incredible. Now getting back to the ship on the very same tender was awfull there are many people on these tenders and for some reason they didn't have any air flow (these tenders are totally enclosed) we had to wait a long time to be able the get back on the ship because it took so long to unload so many people. But we survived and it was not going to ruin our vacation.

All and All we had a great time and next time we will know what to do and what not to do with some guidance from fellow cruisers.

Debarkation

QUICK, FAST AND EASY NO PROBLEMS MON

We were on the ferry out of Galveston by 7:30am. Thank-you CoConut Willie you saved us from a much longer ride home.;)

The Conquest is a beautiful ship we were impressed. We will sail on her again some day (soon I hope)

When I figure out how to download my pictures I wil post them I guess I will have to get my teenage son to help me.

Thanks for posting so soon. Sounds like you had a good time. What time did you get to the terminal to board? We will be driving to Galveston from just north of Houston. You liked the ferry? We've never used it. Thanks for your help.

We got to the terminal at around 12:30 we didn't have to wait in chairs we just went thru security they have a very long maze of roped area when we got there we were at the end of the line past any roped off area and we still went thru very quickly, and then they check our paperwork and gave us our gold cards and off we went. When you walk onto the ship you are in the main lobby, very beautiful, glass elevators and very ornate.

About the only problem while waiting in line were groups of people gathering up and talking and not paying attention to the line, the persons on the metal detectors had to actually come and tell people to keep moving because she had no one in her line:confused:

Todd said there were 1000 children on board. We barely saw any children. So they were either locked up in their room or camp carnival did a fantastic job. We probably saw 10 to 15 children.

please remmber this is only my opinion it may totaly different to you thats the fun of cruising.

P.S. go to Joe's Crab Shack next to Harbor House it was wonderful.:)

I just got back too. We had to fly home so didnt get in till late. Let me just say...I already miss it! Last night we did not get chocolates on the pillows and no one fixed my breakfast this morning....our room steward was average but the rest of the staff was out of this world!!! Our dining staff was to die for. I wish I could take them home. So friendly and really after the first night they knew what we would like. He was very personable and made our special occasions so much more special. ( we celebrated our anniv. and my brothers engagement!)

the Bar staff on the lido deck were so much fun we felt as if we knew them forever! We saw a few of them on port days and they sat and partied with our group and told us stories that made our trip so much more memorable. We had the time of our life!

We had so much fun with all of the activities on board. We had a total of 20 people with us and each and every one of us had something to do. The activities on board were awesome! So much fun. We had young and old in our group and no one had any complaints! They truely have something for everyone!

I guess if there was any complaints to make it would be that the food was so good my clothes are all fitting a little snug now...time to work out.

I hope everyone else on board had as much fun!!

Mommas2tired... what did you think of the Harbor House.. did it suffice for one night, pre cruise stay? Was it great to wake up and see the Conquest right there out your window? I'm so glad to hear that it wasnt bad to walk to the terminal in the morning, even with a fair amount of luggage.

Thanks for your review.. I can hardly wait.

Anyone know if Boris is still serving up the drinks out on the Lido Deck?

The Harbor House was great, not really fancy but extra extra clean and the decor was very nice. The location was perfect. We were in room 206 facing the pier. The rooms have exposed sprinkler pipes and hardwood floors at the entrance we also had 2 queen size beds as well a couch and 2 chairs and coffee and end tables. You have to ring the front desk to let you in the parking lot it is gated but you will be given a code to open it if you decide to look around the town. Seawall Blvd is the place to go, lots to see and do and the best of all is a huge Walmart for all those last minute purchases.:) We were able to leave our car there as part of our hotel stay if you can book directly with them I used Priceline and because I booked online I had to pay a very small fee to leave the car there. I was fine with that.

You can go stand on the pier and have your family see you if they have a computer there is a web cam on top of the Harbor House, it updates every 6 seconds. We were able to wave to our family Saturday evening. Here's the best part, at about 5am Sunday morning start looking for the ship to come sneaking in. I was in awe at seeing that boheamith of a ship come in and completely spin around inplace and then slide up against the pier and not make a ripple in the water that I could see. Then about 10 minutes later here comes the Rhapsody of the Sea and it does the same thing. You will be able to see the Grand Princess leave Saturday it's a sight to see. Of course when we came in we were up as we did self assist ( I highly recommend this) and the room did shutter as we were spinning around.

As for hearing about any shore excursions on Cozumel we didn't hear and complaints. My husband and I on our last cruise to Cozumel in 2003 we went to Passion Island by was of the jungle in a 4x4 jeep. That was wonderful. Not sure how it looks now though.

I highly recommend the Harbor House it is a smoke free hotel.

You had mentioned fish and chips. Were are they located? I know when I was on the conquest last year, the fish and chips and other type of fishy stuff was located upstairs and hard to find if you did not know about it.

Woohoo we leave in 46 days.

Duh, just realized I posted this for the ship, I'm going on the Miracle and not the Conquest again. That would explain the fish and chips

I can answer 2/3 of the questions. The first formal night was Monday, and that is when they had lobster. I want to say the second was Thursday, but they all run together, it could have been Friday.

Momma, thank you so much for your post. We are leaving on the Conquest this coming Sunday. It sounds like you did the same excursions we are except for Grand Cayman. Your post has made me more excited. I knew this would be the longest week of my life and so far it has been.

I have one question I think you said you were on the upper deck and that is where we will be also with a balcony. Did you feel the ship movement very much? I am so afraid of getting sea sick...

I think everyone felt movement on our ship. The wind was really strong We had high seas and everybody walked like they were drunk already. I would definitly take something for seasickness before you get on the ship so it has time to get in your system. We did feel alot of movement, up and down, but we were all the way upper aft and remember we were in rough seas (only on the 1st and last day) even with the patch I was still a little quesy  on the last day, but fresh air will help alot.

I filmed our trip down the Martha Brea in Jamacia and some how I taped over it :( well most of it.

If you want to buy Rum I found it was cheaper in the terminal but we didn't really do alot of searching, example I bought a small bottle for 3.00 I saw the same bottle out in the shops for as much as 9.00 the same exact bottle. Try the Tortuga Rum Cake :) :)

Let me clarify, we didn't feel the ship moving up and down all the time just on 1st and last days the rest of the time you could hardly feel any movement. One more tip, do take something the hold your shower curtain down while you take a shower it will stick to you while you shower I used my hair clips and they worked fine.;) I keep remembering little things that really helped us, most of which I learned from all of you that shared your expierence.
