Carnival Splendor 12/29/18

Recommended Posts

My family and I are leaving on Saturday 12/29/18 on the Carnival Splendor. Other than the cruise terminal parking lot, what other options do we have? We don't need a hotel since we're driving to LB the morning of the cruise. Any feedback is welcomed and Happy Holidays 😄

There are hotels that you can pay to park at in lieu of terminal parking.

Personally, I’ve parked at both hotel and terminal and found terminal parking more convenient for both embarkation and disembarkation. It’s covered and we had zero security issues.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!

You'll be parking in the cruise terminal. They may direct you to the overflow lot in Long Beach if you arrive early. Unless you do a park and cruise package with a hotel the options are limited.

Please let us know how everything went on your cruise.  We rarely get to see a Splendor review!

The cruise was excellent and the Carnival Splendor is a beautiful ship. Since it was a NYE cruise, upon boarding, they had the balloons set up from the balloon drop at midnight. The food and entertainment were great. The stops Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are nice stops. Mazatlan is an industrial port with other container and passenger ships there. Just keep in mind when exploring Mazatlan, all stores and food places in the port take only cash. I didn't know this. My brother and I stopped at this taco place and another cruiser (from royal carribean) ended up paying for our food. It was a nice jester and we appreciated that. He said the same thing happened to him and he was paying his good deed forward.

It was fairly warm in all three ports of call. The staff and our room service attendants were great as well. Since it was our first time cruising during the water, it took awhile for our rooms to warm up. We called guest services and they sent us someone to look at our ac/heat unit. After a few adjustments, we didn't have any other issues with our room staying warm. We had reservations at the steakhouse and of course, it was delicious!. On NYE, we were on the lido deck by 11:30 pm and our CD Lee, kept the music playing and informing us of how many minutes we had left until NY's. The moment came when we had ten seconds and we started the count down. When we hit zero seconds, the ships horn started blasting and confetti and other party decorations were raining down on us (I did post a video on John Healds facebook page of the countdown and I'm also apart of the carnival friendly cruisers facebook that I posted too as well). It was a remarkable moment.

We had so much fun on this cruise that we booked another NYE cruise aboard the brand new Carnival Panorama (we're getting some love out here in the West Coast). All in all, you will not be disappointed by the Carnival Splendor. It's a unique ship and the interior is PINK, but you'll get over it by the second day. If I were you, I'd cruise on it because its moving to Austraila in October 2019. I've sailed the Carnival Splendor once before (when she was homeported in Miami in 2016 after Carnival moved the Breeze to Texas). I hope this answered your concerns and I apologize for replying back so late.

Thanks for review as there really are few reviews of this ship.  We are cruising in late September, so we may be on one of the last cruises before it heads to Australia.  (Maybe we’ll try to stowaway to Australia!)

What did you do in each of the ports?  Any excursions that you’d recommend?

Lol! Let's see, Cabo is a tender port. Once you get off the tender, there are restaurants and souvenir shops right on the pier (Cabo reminded me of Cozumel). Just be aware that some of the locals will ask if you need a taxi to go somewhere. My family and I stayed on the pier. We went to senor frogs and fat tuesday's. In Mazatlan, we didn't do much since it was an industrial port. Puerto Vallarta, we got off the ship and walked around the area. We did go to the mall that's directly across from the port and Walmart is next to the mall. The mall seem like I was at home, so it didn't feel different. We were the last ship to sail out of Puerto Vallarta. We didn't set sail until abt 7pm (IIRC). Since it was our last port to visit, we had two sea days heading back to Long Beach. The sea coming back was a little choppy, but I wasn't bothered at all. The sea breezes from my balcony is what I missed the most. When we arrived back to Long Beach, I was sad disembarking the Splendor.

I hope you have a wonderful time on her and definitely book soon.

We embark the Splendor in late May.  We are doing the following in each port:

Mazatlan - Stone Island Tour (highly recommended)

https://www.mazatlantours.org/

Our second choice for Mazatlan was a resort day at El Cid Moro Resort.

Cabo - Parasailing

HappyFlightsCabo.com

After that they will drop us off at Medano Beach and we will probably to to Billygans or The Office.

Puerto Vallarta - ATV Mountain Tour

www.estigotours.com

Really looking forward to this one.  Have heard a LOT about it and Estigo's customer service is PRIMO!

I'm not a beach girl.  Just can't stand being idle and sitting around doing nothing.  I know I'm in the minority though:)

I'm booked for a 4-night cruise-Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney on the carnival Splendour in a Spa Oceanview. Looking forward to enjoying the Thalossotherapy pool, the only pool I have seen on a cruise ship with a decent handrail and steps going down into the pool. Handy when you're handicapped and stairs are a challenge. I know to buy myself a rash vest for sun protection, it's on my cruise shopping list. Eagerly counting down the days! LOL!

Enjoy my favorite ship! I’m excited to see what changes she’ll have when she moves to Australia. The spa is BEAUTIFUL!
