internet pricing and coupon book on Nieuw Statendam

Recommended Posts

Is there any special or sale on internet pricing on the NS?

Does HAL give out coupon books onboard?  If so, how do I obtain one?  Thank you.

there are occasionally coupon books.  These seem to be issued by TA's though and not by HAL.  Many find them of little use.

I haven't seen a 'special' on internet pricing on embarkation day for a while.  There used to an extra 15 minutes (or something like that) but now that most ships have moved to the unlimited internet, it's non applicable.

I agree with Kazu - we didn't see a coupon book on NS, occasionally we have had one in a cabin, but not this time.

No discounts on internet purchase, except I think it was $25 off a full cruise for 5-star mariners.  I don't think there was anything off for buying internet on the first day, but check with the Front Desk - you never know!

It is still expensive $250 for unlimited internet and only on 1 device.  Do most ports have free wifi at the cruise terminals?

I think it is about $24.+ a day for internet (full price for the middle grade - you will find deductions for different packages and times).  You can use more than one device, but only one at a time.   As far as ports having internet, it depends on the port....  If they do you will see lots of crew utilizing it.

It depends on how long your cruise is.  For the middle package mine should be around $200 for a 24 day cruise so about $10 per day.  It gets pricier for shorter cruises, I've noticed.

You can use as many devices as you want, but only one device at a time.

Not all ports have free wifi and some that do, it's very slow as there are too many people logging in.

What ports are you going to?  If it's ports with a MacDonald's or some similar place, their wifi is usually good.  We normally hit a nice restaurant, bistro, cafe, bar, whatever as long as they have wifi and usually get pretty good wifi for the cost of a meal/coffee/drink.  (Caveat - We do more Europe and other such places versus Caribbean.)

You're right.  I think ours worked out to $10+ a day in the end, for the length of the cruise and taking into account our discount.

But a single day was, I think, $24.95...

The 7-day package for the internet service capable of streaming was $139.  The service capable of only lighter use (e.g., checking e-mail) was $99 for 7 days.  Only one device could be used at a time.

We have gotten coupon books a few times -- asked our TA -- she did not give them to us.  Have no idea where they came from.

Have never used a coupon from them.  You need to spend big bucks to get a little something.

Thank you. $99 for 7 days is reasonable...I read it was $250 for 7 days of unlimited usage.

The $99 is for a general package, for a limited number of social media sites it is $69 and for the top tier it is $139

Most ports you will find internet somewhere.    Ask the crew they know where it is.    Some ports there will be no free Wifi.    Half Moon Cay is one.    If you have T-mobile or Google FI your phone will work in the port (including the private islands) and you can usually tether the phones internet to others if needed.    If you do the baltic cruise I did find that my phone internet worked most of the time because we weren't that far from the shore a lot of the time.

I I'm not sure if you're from Canada but I assume so by your name.  We are with Telus mobility and they have something called easy roam.  You use your existing cell phone plan data and are charged $7 per day to use anywhere in the US and $12 a day internationally including most Caribbean islands.  You are not charged if you don't use it and of course you can only use it when at port not at sea.  I'm not sure if other cell phone providers have a similar plan but likely they do. We are on the NS in 3 weeks with our kids and we are planning on using this system instead of the ships internet.  The one device rule is a deal-breaker for us.

Just got off the Nieuw Statendam for 7 nights. Pre cruise premium internet was 111.99 for the week. On board it was 139.99.  I was able to skype, wifi calling, etc. Internet was out for one full day and two mornings. Digital manager gave me a 40 dollar credit. Only one device at a time. Found it to be satisfactory. Skype was grainy at times, but voice sound was fine. I would get it again on my next cruise.
