Tracy Arm Fjord vs Endicott Arm Fjord

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Celebrity Solstice on Alaska inside passage from Seattle ( R/T ).Celebrity changed the itinerary . We will no longer be visiting the Tracy Arm fjord and the Sawyer glacier as originally scheduled. Instead they are visiting the Endicott Arm fjord and the Dawes glacier. Has anyone visited both and have a opinion as to if this a positive or a negative change/ experience for the passengers ? Thank you

Tracy Arm is frequently ice bound, so the cruise ships are often unable to enter the fjord or reach the glacier. Endicott Arm is adjacent to Tracy Arm. Have missed at least 1 visit to Tracy due to ice, but have never cruise in Endicott, so unable to comment on Dawes Glacier.

Endicott Arm doesn't have the twists and turns that Tracy Arm has. It is less scenic. Ships have a better chance of getting to Dawes Glacier with Endicott Arm.

Tracy Arm/Sawyer Glacier has become really difficult for ships to get to and they often have gone to Endicott Arm anyway.

So they are just changing it where you probably would have gone anyway.

While I can't compare either, we thought Dawes Glacier was amazing! I'm sure some who have done both will have a different opinion maybe, but we loved it. I don't feel like we missed anything. And like it's already been said here and many times before, it's really rare than any of the ships get into Tracy Arm anymore. We saw beautiful waterfalls, bears, and of course, the glacier!

Probably a good thing. We did the Tracy Arm Cruise on the Solistice in 2015. We got up at 5 am as we entered the fjord and the ship went halfway up and then stopped and waited for a tour boat to come alongside and load passengers from our ship. Those people took the smaller tour boat up to Sawyer Glacier. The rest of us turned around and headed to Juneau. There was no mention prior that we wouldn't see the Glacier that day. We have been back twice since then and both times we went to Daws. Going again this year, maybe we will get lucky, but doubtful.

We searched several small boat tours to either of those areas but because of our 9am arrival time in port, we were unable to work any into our schedule. We have now opted for a pre cruise all day tour in Prince William Sound by Lazy Otter out of Whittier and a Harv & Marv whale watch while in Juneau. I was really hoping to see Tracy or Endicott Arm.

We hope to be able to make it to both glaciers this year!  We are scheduled for Endicott Arm on the Ovation 11 night cruise in May, but we have also booked the Tracy Arm small boat tour out of Juneau on Adventure Bound.  That cruise also visits Hubbard Glacier, so hopefully we will have some excellent glacier/wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
