Maasdam Refurbish

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an idea when Holland is considering refurbishing The Maasdam? It has been a long time.

Thanks ....

They just did (Sept 2018) in preparation for the in depth EXC itineraries if I am remembering correctly. I think there were a couple of threads from around the time of the first cruises post dry dock that talk about some of the changes and the condition of the ship.

We took the first Maasdam EXC InDepth cruise after the drydock in Sept 2018 and the ship was in beautiful condition - lighter and brighter but still very elegant feeling.

It remains however an older ship and does not have azipods - this translated as more movement in the very aft section due apparently to the propeller shafts moving in and out of the water and dropping back with a shudder. This was noticeable because we had long at-sea day runs of five days each coming and going away from Easter Island across some rough open seas.

Since it had rained everyday during that prior dry dock much of the outdoor work still needed to be completed on that first post-dry dock cruise so there was ongoing work done on the outdoor decks and remaining interior finishing work done by the "French Polishing Team". moving about in their distinctive tee-shirts.

Not sure what you mean ...it has been a long time .... this ship, like all HAL ships, undergoes regularly scheduled dry docks and refurbishments. Long time in the HAL family, yes. But in no way neglected and ignored.

BTW: just read the latest research on the moai on Easter Island - the new speculation is they marked where there were fresh water supplies coming out of the cliffs near the ocean, since there were no rivers or lakes on the island itself. Certainly critical to mark those areas for future generation and/or claim them as their own with the curse of their ancestors watching over them.

As fatcat stated, she came out of her Freeport dry-dock four months ago. Prior to that, she was in dry-dock between 04-13 January 2016, so three years ago
