Refund of on board credit

Our refund cheque of excess OBC from Princess for our November cruise arrived today. It was the amount shown on our statements at the end of the cruise. 😊

Good to hear! Is that 6-7 weeks? We were home on the 21st Nov and our OBC refund cheque arrived on 3 weeks later.

We got home on the 25th Nov and received the cheque on 21st January. I am not complaining. My husband was so sure we wouldn't receive it.

If you don't use all your on board credit from your Bank of America visa card points can you get a refund? or are you talking about on board credit received from another source?

I  always thought that On Board Credit was credit that had  to be used on board. 

 A  - Use it or lose it type deal.

We didn't have a large amount of on board credit. Some came from the travel agent, but I have no idea why more credits appeared on our statement. However, I am not querying it. 🙂

A lot of people have believed unused on-board credits would be lost. I have seen people buying 'stuff' they don't really want, just to use up the available credit.

 

On our Princess cruise, we bought a couple of small items to use the last bit of our credit, leaving 46 cents (by our calculations). However, a print-out of our accounts on the last day showed what appeared to be a much larger credit. We went to the Passenger Services Desk to politely ask for help in deciphering the statement in case we misunderstood. The person on the desk confirmed that our statement showed a credit (more than the 46 cents we expected) and that it would be refunded. Surprise! I rather cheekily asked if we could have the refund, but the answer was that it was more than the $25 they could give in cash and that a cheque would be sent. It was. 🙂

 

Bottom line - 1. We had an additional credit from an unknown source. I am not arguing with this. 😊

2. It seems that unused credits can be refunded, but it could be wise to check this early in the cruise so you can plan your spending.

3. The cheque can take up to two months to arrive.

Actually, there are two types of credit: "Refundable" or "non-refundable". The names explain the difference. You may have both on your account at the same time. non-refundable gets used first by the cruise line.

We have had a $300 credit put into our credit card once after a cruise,got no idea where it come from.

We have a $1400 none refundable onboard credit for a cruise in December and there’s no way we will us it.

I consulted with the RC cheerleaders on the RC forum and they said the only way to redeem it is to go to the casino,advance a credit against my account,go to a slot machine ( pokie) and press pay out.

The cashier will payout cash. Probably $US ,but we will keep it for the next cruise.

I assume that everybody here is taking about the refund of CASH that they have placed into their account as a credit???  - because my understanding is that "freebie" OBC which we sometimes get is not refundable at all?

We are talking about OBC from our travel agent or from Princess. We did not place any cash into our account. Like you, I thought any remaining credit would be lost and was very pleasantly surprised when the Customer Service Rep said they would send a cheque.😊 They did.

 

I don't know if this is a new practice by Princess or if it has always happened. We haven't had a credit balance on our account on previous cruises.

Yes - definitely a new one on me!! Last year we did 3 back to backs on Cunard and we had so much OBC ( including military OBC from Carnival Corp) that we were desperate to spend it on all 3 cruises !! 🙂 Even Christine ( basically a non-drinker) started drinking cocktails to try to get rid of the money!! I bought every electrical/electonic device on the ships that I could. Even bought some clothes!!

I’m not a gambler in any way but from what I understand is get a cash advance somehow.All the cruise company’s will have different rules but from what I’ve heard that’s the best way to redeem the money,it is your’s

Sometime we have no OBC and other times none.

 But it’s a good problem to have,LOL

I don't know what the rules are on Cunard. Maybe it would not have been available to you after the cruise.

Mrs Gut got real upset out 2 nighter, we left $1.27 non refundable behind, she (a lifelong anti gambler) was upset we hasn’t thought to look for a 2c pokie and used it

Some us refundable some nit, varies by source and line.

 $1.27 that would be annoying,even a 2 cent pokie you would have a cent left over.

I understand if you get onboard credit from a travel agent you can get a refund, but I would like to know if anyone knows if the onboard credit came from your rewards points from the Bank of America (Royal Caribbean) visa card would also be refunded if not used completely.

I'm trying to see how much I should request for our upcoming cruise in May and it matters if I can get unused credit back or not.

You would have to ask your agent or Royal Caribbean but I doubt you would get any sense out of ether.

 Australians aren’t as credit card savvy as Americans ,we don’t seem to get the benefits.

Did you try the Royal Caribbean forum,mostly Americans there.

Depends on the source, some is refundable and most is non-refundable.

just get it from the casino, my last cruise a 4 dayer to sydney, i put $200 in the casino cashed it out and went shopping in sydney, i had a thought if i put a $1,000 on my account, drew the cash out get off the boat pay the $1,000 into my cc and i end up with 3,000 points on my credit card.
