bl262000 Posted January 24, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2019 FYI, If travelling from Sydney to the airport by train from Sat 2 Feb 02:00 - Mon 4 Feb 02:00 2019, no trains OR replacement busses.https://transportnsw.info/alerts/details#/6029219 So get on a train T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line and change at Wolli vreek for train back to city via airport......Taxi or shuttle bus looks good for those effected! cya BL262000
The_Big_M Posted January 24, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2019 Their trackwork communication is so poor lately. Instead of stating what the issue is, they work backwards starting with the impacts – and don’t go any further. So the actual issue is that there are no southbound trains on the airport line, although northbound trains continue to run. Plan workarounds accordingly. Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2019 There was a signalling problem in Auckland this morning and all the trains were out. Busses were put on , but some folk who needed to get to work on time , simply got on their phones and booked an Uber. Shock ,horror , the Uber computer swung into surge fare mode , and trips across town that normally cost $26 , were going for $110.00 .
bl262000 Posted January 25, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted January 25, 2019 The reason for no busses from the airport stations only (busses are running to Mascot and Green square stations, but not the Airport), is because they won't be able to charge the station surcharge. Thats why they want to make you use the train and change to go back. (money making Macquarie bank!). (could also be problems loading and unloading the busses at the terminal...but I will go for the $$ reason). cya BL262000
The_Big_M Posted January 25, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2019 I'd agree that's the likely reason. Though I believe the government is the owner and gets the benefit now.

I think thats the case for green square and mascot, but not for international and domestic stations...otherwise the surcharge would have been dropped along with the other 2 stations. No, government made a call that they would drop the surcharge for the 'residential' stations, while keeping it on the traveller - airport stations. dreaminofcruisin Posted January 26, 2019 #11 Share Posted January 26, 2019 Thanks for posting information about track work. This one won't affect me, but it did cause me to go and look at my planned train from Sydney to Katoomba (Blue Mountains) on Saturday, February 2nd. I see that part of that journey is being replaced by a bus. If I look at the Opal Travel app, it indicates for this bus replacement "Opal not available". Does this mean I can't use the Opal card for this part of the journey and if so, how will I need to pay? Thanks.

If from central you "should" tap on at a station reader (not the gates) and then only tap off at Katoomba. Although, you could just hop on the rail replacement express bus to Penrith, Then tap on there for the remainder of the trip. You will not need to tap on when getting on or off the replacement bus. cya BL262000 Edited January 27, 2019 by bl262000
dreaminofcruisin Posted January 27, 2019 #13 Share Posted January 27, 2019 Thanks much. Okay, I think I 'get' it now. We will actually be leaving from Wynyard Station, so I think I 'tap on' there and then don't 'tap off' until I get to Katoomba. We will be picking up the replacement bus at Central. Too bad about the track work though. It makes a fairly long day trip even longer, with the replacement buses.
