Wonderful Copenhagen 2019.

Recommended Posts

I have updated the thread for many years now and I will continue helping people as long as they want my help.

Next year is very interesting.

The new metro line has opened and the metro will go 1/3 of the way out to Oceankaj.

Also Copenhagen will host 4 games of the European football championship so expect alot of celebrations around that time.

Danish Viking,

I am so thankful to have found this thread. You are a God-sent for those of us that have never been to your beautiful city.

I see you have mentioned something about European Football championships next year. We are booked to leave Sept 6, 2020 and wonder if they will be over by then?  I worry about getting hotel rooms as we plan to arrive a few days earlier to visit before the cruise leaves.

I have the misfortune of being booked on a cruise Super Bowl Sunday ex Miami and it has definitely been stressful finding reasonable rates and availability. Don’t think I can stand another one😫

Thanks for all you do.

We are arriving on 10/1/19 for cruise leaving 10/2 (Norwegian getaway out of Oceankaj). We are staying at city hotel Nebo. Our plan is to get 24 hour city pass and take the. Train from airport to central station. We arrive at 1130 am so I believe by the Tim we get the pass it will take us to the ship (not sure what time we can board yet).

I am trying to figure out what to see on the 1st. Tivoli does not show hours for the 1st is it closed by then. We would like to do the canal tour.  I assume we can buy tickets there. We are good walkers I am wondering if we should bother with the city pass or just pay the ride ticket from the airport and to the ship. Will the metro be open by then and how does that affect our trip to the ship. Your suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks so much for doing this on such a consistent basis!  Do you know when those games will be next year?

Me tro should be open at that time, it opens on the 28 or 29th of September.

But the leg out to Nordhavn that will get you closer to Oceankaj will first open in Spring 2020.

But it will make it easier to get around the city and the metro platform at the central station is located 1 Block from your hotel.

So if you plan to use the metro alot to get to Nyhavn and other places then the 24 hour City Pass will be a great deal.

Each trip you take will be 24 kroner and 36 kroner from the airport to central station.

So already the 2 trips from airport to downtown and downtown to x cruise terminal is 60 kroner.

Citypass small is the one you need and it cost 80 kroner so just by adding 1 trip you have earned in the money.

Yes Tivoli is closed when you are in town so you must find something else to do 🙂

Is it this year or next year.

very important info for your traveling plans 🙂

Danish Viking, I am sorry for not answering your question sooner. Just got back home from spending a week in Louisiana at the Casinos. We arrive in Copenhagen Airport on Oct.17, 2019 around 13:05 pm. Will be spending 3 nights at the Hotel Kong Fredrik. Our Transatlantic Cruise on the NCL Getaway leaves on Oct. 20, 2019. Looking for transportation options (train / buses / taxis) from CPR to Hotel Kong Fredrik, and from Hotel Kong Fredrik to the Copenhagen Ocean Quay Terminal 1+2. The approximate distances from the drop off points for the train / bus to the Hotel and from the Hotel to the cruise ship, would be greatly appreciated. If it is too far for us to walk, we will settle for using a taxi from CPR to Hotel, and Hotel to the Cruise Terminal. Thank you for your help.

Is Tivoli Gardens open October 18 and 19, 2019 for the Halloween season?

Never mind. I emailed them and they replied that they are open October 11 to November 3 for the Halloween season.

I´m guessing by CPR you are talking about the central station.

The new metro has opened about 3 weeks before you arrive and the Rådhuspladsen metro station is a stones throw away from your hotel.

So take the metro from the airport to Kongens Nytorv.

Here you change from M2 to either M3 or M4 and take it 2 stops further to Rådhuspladsen and walk to the hotel from there.

When going to to cruise terminal you can either walk 10 minutes to Nørreport and catch bus 25 from there to Oceankaj.

Or you can catch M3/4 via Kongens Nytorv and get off at Østerport from where you can catch both bus 25 and 27.

Danish Viking, I messed up again. I meant to put CPH, the abbreviation for the Copenhagen Airport, arriving Terminal 3 at approximately 13:05 pm. We should be easily be able to follow the your detailed instructions from Airport to Hotel, and Hotel to the Cruise Terminal. Thank you very much.

Danish Viking, you’ve been so helpful with previous posts, hoping you can provide info on this question. Our ship is scheduled for an 8:30 arrival, and we’re hoping to book a tour that leaves from the city center at 9:30. We plan to reserve a taxi for the transit, to ensure we arrive at the tour start location on time, and hopefully a bit early. Should we have any concern that our ship (Viking Sea) may dock late in Copenhagen? Our previous port is Aalborg and we’ll be docking at Langelinie. Thanks.

Love the thread, but so much information to sort through.  We are arriving in September and will just have a Friday and Saturday before our sailing on Sunday.  Really hoping to try and figure out the transportation to the port.  As best I can tell it looks like we take a metro, get off somewhere? and then need to switch to a bus?  My mother has some mobility issues, so I am not sure if this is going to be a good idea for her or not - or whether we just make an attempt at a taxi?

We are staying at one of the Wakeup Copenhagen hotels (Carsten Niebuhrs Gade), near the what I guess is the main train station?  We had a really tough time deciding on hotels even, and this one seemed OK for just a two night stay.

My husband and I may attempt to wander off on our own and try whatever the route is to get us to the cruise port and see whether we think it will be too much with luggage, etc to do.  My guess is however I assume a lot must also use this transportation so carrying luggage may not be so odd? We were thinking of that Copenhagen card/pass for our arrival, which should still cover transport to the cruiseport.  I just hate the idea of paying extra for a taxi if we could cover it with the pass.

The distance from Aalborg to Copenhagen is not that long so any delays would be caught up during the night.

If you can´t find a taxi then bus 26 should get you into downtown in 30 minutes time.

Is your cruise pre or post the metro circle line opening date by the end of September?

Is your meeting point the town hall square.

Sorry no metro unless you arrive after the 28th of September.

But do you  have a date and ship else I can´t help you 🙂

We sail on the 15th of September on the Meraviglia.  I thought the cruise port showed using the train/metro whatever they call it - and then mentions a bus transfer.  I just wasn't sure where the bus transfer would occur.

Thanks Danish Viking. We arrive in Copenhagen on 20 August and yes, our meeting point is the town hall square.

You are cutting at little bit close with public transportation so your best bet is probably a taxi.

Bus 26 departs at 09:04 and arrives at 09:25. that leaves you with 5 minutes to find your group.

I don´t know if you can make the 08:44 departure, that leaves you with plenty of time at Rådhuspladsen.

Or else it takes 10-25 minutes to walk to Østerport station from where you can take any southbound S-train to Vesterport and walk to Rådhuspladsen from there.

That should take around 30 minute if you include the walking in both ends.

Not a problem at all - last time I were at the airport before 9 by train from Østerport to the Airport

Ships are normally cleared quite fast - do not expect customs.

Taxi from cruise port (assuming Oceankaj) to Airport is 30 minutes a Sunday morning. You just have to be at the airport by 10.

Hello, we are on the Getaway sailing that ends on Oct 2nd. We need transportation to the airport very early. We plan on walking off with our luggage as soon as they clear customs. Our flight is at 9:40 am. I know..crazy. Do you know if taxi's will be available by 7 am?

If we take the train...can you give me detailed instruction on where to get the train? Thank you so much

Indeed very crazy. 🙂

I would probably rule out public transportation straight away.

The 7:07 bus will get you to the airport at 7:49, that should be okay if you can make it out to that time and the bus and train runs problem free.

You have 9 minutes to get to the platform at Østerport for the 7:27 train towards Hässleholm, it should take 4 minutes from the bus stop to the train.

The 7:23 bus will get you to the airport at 8:09, here you got 13 minutes to kill at Østerport before catching the 7:47 train towards Helsingborg.

I will not even tell you about the later departures because the last one is risky if something happens during the trip.

Where is you flight heading, if it's to a european country that is not the United Kingdom or Ireland then it could save you some time because you will skip the passport control.

But it can take some time to check in your luggage and 10-20 minutes to walk to the security check and clear it
