CruisinCoyote Posted February 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2019 Does Royal have a feature you can message other cruisers on? Sailed carnival last year and paid $5 for this feature
Clarea Posted February 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2019 Only Allure has an app that has a functional free messaging option. It's been reported that Harmony still has a firewall hole that allows iMessage to work for free. Quantum class ships still offer messaging via the Royal IQ App for $8 per device per cruise. The iMessage hole might also work on those ships. Other ships would require purchasing VOOM or paying your cell carrier by the message.

icsys Posted February 7, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) Back in November 2017 it was reported the ‘new’ app would include a new feature to allow for easy text communication for guests with no internet plan required. Unlike Royal Caribbean's previous smart phone app, Royal iQ, there was to be no additional cost to use the texting feature in the app. So what happened to this 'chat with friends' feature that was supposed to be included with the new app? Fast forward to November 2018 - The app team held a demo and talk for members of the media while on Symphony of the Seas and shed light on a few new features coming to the app. They team demoed guest messaging, which is currently being tested on Allure of the Seas. They indicated that they are looking to improve the ease at which guests connect with each other by using a code unique to each guest. Royal Caribbean plans to add something they call "Ship to Guest messaging" where not only can guests chat with other guests, but get messages from the ship. Royal Caribbean has not shared any kind of timeline for when ships, other than the ten currently available, will be added to the app, nor when a particular feature will become available for use.
