Snorkeling at Secret Harbor?

Recommended Posts

Would love to hear if you have snorkeled at Secret Harbor recently. Been a few years for us. Our last trip to St Thomas was right after the hurricane  and we went to Sapphire Beach. A lot of damage but I understand its much better now. Secret Harbor was closed,  Used to really enjoy the easy snorkeling at Secret Harbor.

Was just there in January and snorkling was just ok.... Lots of bleached coral and boats filled the bay. We did see an octopus eating a conch which was the best part of the day! Other than than a few little fish were really all we saw. I was really disappointed with the lack of space you could occupy (chairs/umbrellas) if you were not a guest of the resort. Plus the restaurant/bar was way overpriced for the quality of food and service you received.

I would appreciate your feedback on Sapphire since we are going back in June and are looking for a better beach. Were also into snorkling and want a place where we can have something to eat and a few drinks while we chill for the day.

Sad to hear of the conditions at Secret Harbor. How far out did you snorkel? We used to follow the left side of the harbor (looking towards the water) until the point. There were some years the surf kept us from going that far but there were plenty of fish to watch. Glad to hear Olly (the resident octopus) is still there!

Did the whole bay out to point.  Left side was best but nothing exciting. All the boats anchored made it hard to get around but we were all over regardless. Let me know if you find a good beach when you go. I'm open to suggestion so long as hubby has bar and shade!

We have snorkeled at Coki which was just ok. The first few times we snorkeled at Sapphire beach it was good but that's going back at least 8 years ago. It hasn't been good since. Emerald Beach used to have tons of starfish but a smooth sandy bottom all the way out so nothing else. We've done just about all the catamaran/boat trips over the years and mostly meh. St John is good if conditions are good but can be rough. Thinking we may try Buck Island again but would prefer to do our own thing, Will let you know!
