Strayed From The Fold

Recommended Posts

After several years of only considering or taking NCL cruises, I have strayed. I have been one of the NCL "cheerleaders" on here.

However in looking for a cruise for next February, looked at someone else's product. Western Caribbean out of Tampa, outside cabin, seven nights.

Key West, Caymen, Cozumel and Costa Maya.

The price with a nice OBC was over $1,000.00 less. For that I can fly to Tampa, stay one night in hotel, dine in a couple of specialties, and have a few drinks.

Don't worry, I still love NCL.

I pledge allegiance to my wallet, not to a company or logo.  Enjoy your new experiences.

Never tie yourself to one cruise line.  The more cruise lines you try the better.

We started on Carnival, went to NCL, left cruising, started back with RCI, now booked again with NCL.  Money talks

Didn't think we would ever do it, but 22 NCL cruises and now booked MSC Yacht Club for next.  The price was about half of equivalent of NCL.   Might as well find out.

Yes, it's sometimes hard to try something different, especially if you are loyal to a particular brand reaping in the benefits of your loyalty status. Just like the airlines.

With the Oasis of the Seas coming to Cape Liberty next year, it's very tempting to try her out. Always loved the design of Royal Caribbean's ships, and want to see the immensity of the Oasis class first-hand.

Would love to travel MSC but we are cruising on free and reduced casino cabins right now.

The last time we strayed, I hardly felt like I'd had a cruise vacation and had to book another on NCL to make up for it.

LOL, I have too infact going to book one with RC shortly.  I don't want to but for the $$ it makes more sense.  Enjoy your trip.

Platinum Plus on NCL, taking a 12 day out of Singapore in 2 weeks on the Jewel.  When we get back to the USA we are flying to Florida in May to take a RCI 12 day to the ABC islands, ending in Cape Liberty, NJ.  Want to see Aruba etc and this was the cheapest cruise available, considering all the expenses

Competition helps cruisers get the most out of their money.

We started cruising with NCL, then added Celebrity, then Royal C.

We like things about all three lines.

Food is best on Celebrity

Entertainment is best on Royal C and NCL

Ship design is best on Celebrity

Loyalty benefits best on Royal C and Celebrity (free happy hour drinks)

Unfortunately, price bundling of promos that we don't want has jacked up cruise prices on NCL and Celebrity, so we are going more toward Royal C in the future.  Still, we compare the three as well as checking Princess.

We avoided HAL for years because of their terrible smoking policy, which has changed, but we still haven't see a HAL cruise that wins the competition when considering one of our three loyalty lines.

A friend of mine always sails with either free or very low casino fares. She sails NCL and Princess mostly but was able to book MSC Seaside YC deluxe suite for her and husband for around 1500 for both. Still cheaper than what I am paying.

When I came to NCL I was worried that it would live up to my experiences on RCI.  It did.  I actually prefer the dining arrangements.

I went on a Princess last summer.  It was different in that there was little night life.  That might have been because it was Alaska midsummer - longggg days.

I recently got a quote for MSC that was half NCL.  It was for a bucket list cruise so I stayed loyal to NCL.  I am going to give it a go one day soon.

Brave me, I have even booked a P and O cruise next summer.    I have got an aft balcony so that can't be bad.

I have yet to have a bad cruise.  If we stray too far it might seem like a 'different' experience, but I am at the stage in my life when I can cope with different.  If the price is right and the ports suit me,  I am up for it.

Is it the promo bundling that makes NCL look so much more expensive this year????  I have compared a few prices and did a double take!!

We're trying our first MSC cruise in September. Still sailing with NCL in April (45 days to go!) and December (checking out the Encore), but the price was right for this MSC cruise. Both excited and nervous. We do love NCL, but for the price, we figure it's worth the risk to give MSC a shot.

Same here.  The MSC Seaside Yacht Club all inclusive with all beverages including mini bar even, wifi, private restaurant, Haven type area, 7 day for two persons is about $4000.  Same dates, same ports mostly NCL similar was about $6600.   I booked.  We'll see.   I've also requested a Platinum Plus match which should knock off another $200.  Haven't heard back yet on that.

I read that status matching via the web form is taking about 2 weeks to process right now. Some people have had better luck calling and doing it over the phone.

We were one cruise away from reaching Platinum on NCL, then booked our April cruise with Royal because the price  was a lot better. No drink package, but I never even got a buzz on NCL even with 3 old fashions in a hour and half and at home one old fashioned knocks me out! Drinking is a waste of a time if I am not going to get a buzz!

Thanks.  If I don't hear from them in a week or so, I'll call.

We have got on many Carnival Cruises this will be our first one with NCL. It was mainly the Northern Europe port of call that causes us to go on NCL.

Check out U R Comped. You should be able to use your NCL casino status to get a free/reduced MSC cruise.

We've been on RC since 2010 but have caught ourselves looking.  Without airing all our Dirty Laundry, make sure you get the cruise insurance that actually pays for the procedure if you're injured during the cruise but can't get the needed complete shoulder replacement until a few days later.

It came down to MSC vs. NCI.  I liked MSC's price a little better but liked the Dallas to New Orleans trip better than Dallas to Miami.

I'm booked on my first RCCL cruise next week.  We are loyal NCL cruisers (Platinum), and decided to try a short RC cruise our first time out.  Have to say the pre-cruise experience has been nowhere as good as NCL.  We'll see how this goes.
