paris le Meridien etoile

Viking suggests that this is the hotel they use for pre -cruise.  Has anyone stayed there and how was the location?

Very convenient if you're attending a trade fair, not so great if you want to feel like you're actually in Paris. It's a pretty soulless place (though very nice) that appeals to business types, and the nearest Metro station is about a five minute walk.

I stayed there over a decade ago - its Marriott property I believe.very nice, but definitely geared to business - not a lot of "Parisian charm" in nearby neighborhoods as I remember but a quick walk to metro.

not a lot of charm in the area.  Given our tastes, we prefer more local than touristy.  That would probably rule out the Champs hotels

If you prefer chain hotels there are a ton of Marriotts scattered throughout Paris.  We stayed at the Marriott Ambassador in the 9th near the Opera.  Built in the 1920s, a bit of charm with modern touches.  Good neighborhood for food right behind it.

There are many non chain hotels as well - just depends on your comfort level of picking non familiar names

If you want a killer view of the Eiffel Tower, take a look at Hotel Brighton,  across from the Tuileries Garden.

We spent a few days at Hotel Keppler, a few blocks from Les Champs-Elysees, maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Cute little place, nice cozy room, great breakfast, helpful staff, and convenient area for sightseeing. It was easy to get to/from CDG via the RER/Metro. They seem to have become more expensive since our stay but would go back without hesitation.

Just returned from Viking tour.  They changed our hotel to Pullman Hotel 1/2 block from Eiffel Tower.  Spectacular!

Maltoose181...we are scheduled for the Pullman in Oct....do you have any recommendations for a good restaurant nearby. DH has some walking difficulty, so we can't walk too far away.

Does Viking let you change the hotel if you are scheduled for the Meridian, or are you stuck with their choice??
