What happens to existing bookings when a cruise is chartered?

Recommended Posts

One of my booked cruises (Sunrise in March 2020) appears to be no longer available for booking.  I would be fine with changing the date (though not the ship) and it is a year in the future, so not really a big deal, but I am still curious.  How does Carnival handle existing bookings on cruises that are later chartered?

If your ship is indeed chartered, after the ink is dry on the contract you (or your TA) will be notified with your options.

That would really suck to happen after scheduling vacation, booking airfare and non-cruiseline excursions.  Nothing less than 2x total cost  would be sufficient in my mind as a refund, but I’m sure it’s much less.

Not so bad for those of us who are retired and live in Florida 😄.

I was once booked on...I forget what ship but it was older and smaller...out of PC in Aug 2016. We booked super early and wanted those specific ports and it was a decent price due to smaller older ship. We also liked going out of PC. A few months after we booked we get an email that the Magic was replacing our ship so we'd be put in same cabin types on the Magic. It was same ports and we didn't have to pay more. However, we had 3 cabins in our party. We were with our 3 teens and had an aft extended and an inside booked near each other...the aft extanded had 3 (I think me and DDs). They put us on 2 different floors due to limited aft extendeds on Magic and SIL's family was in a balcony near my aft extended. So I had to call and move the inside to right by us. It cost a little extra as we were higher up on the ship. We could have just cancelled with no penalty if we weren't happy with the ship. But we were happier as the Magic was awesome. Prob my fave Carnival ship thus far.

Plenty of rooms available today on the Carnival web site for the March 21, 2020 sailing.

Yes, it is back!  Shof515 was exactly right, glitchy website (and I was impatient).  There have been two price drops in 21 days, so I check frequently and saw it was (temporarily) missing.

The only difference is that there are now two different casino offers, though the additional one is not listed under my offers.
