Shell Beach

We were in St Barts last week on our cruise on the Silver Spirit.  With our grown children and 2 year old grandchild. We decided to check out Shell Beach.

Noah enjoyed the tender ride in, looking at the "b-i-i-g boats!"

We walked to Shell Beach, a pleasant walk of perhaps 20 minutes from the tender pier. Less most likely if one is not pushing a baby in a stroller, and no one in the party obsessively compulsively stops every 30 seconds or so to snap photos.

Shell Beach is so called because......

But there is a large sandy area

There are chairs and umbrellas for rent, but they were all reserved. So the lesson is that if one wishes to spend the day at Shell Beach, which is not a bad way to go for a stop in St Barts, it behooves one to reserve at least a few days ahead.

Bear in mind that the cost of renting chairs and umbrellas, plus the cost of lunch and beverages will be somewhere between an Arm and a Leg.

Wonderful!  Thank you for posting!  We’ll be making a one day visit too.  Trying to decide between Shell Beach or car rental.  How wheelchair or scooter friendly is the road to Shell Beach?  My husband couldn’t walk that far, so we’ll use one or the other to get there.  By the looks of your photos, he would have quite a long walk on the beach - is that correct? I’d imagine we’d spend no more than a couple hours there.

Thank you!

HI Carolyn, the walk to the beach was an easy one, and if memory serves, it was quite accessible.  We wheeled a stroller there and had no problems. I would think a scooter would be no problem.  You can also take a taxi there, it is a very short ride.

Actually, there is not a long walk on the beach to be concerned about, it is a rather short beach, and all of the facilities that you need are right next to where you enter.

OTOH, renting a car and driving around the island is not a bad way to go either.

Have a great time whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for the information.  This sounds like a great way to spend part of a day.  But our first option is to rent a car. We’re a group of 6, so finding a vehicle that’s doable may be challenging  - maybe not.  In addition, I’m wondering what happens with a car rental (and payment) should we not make it into port due to weather/seas.

Sorry, can't help you with that question, but I'm sure that whatever agency you are renting from can let you know.

Good luck and enjoy.
