cheeruson #1 Posted February 28 It looks like we have to choose either the Marksburg Castle tour or the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress optional tour for the day we are in Koblenz on our Cities of Light trip with Viking. Maybe because of the amount of time we are there? We have no mobility issues, so we could handle either tour. Recommendation from any recent travelers?
OneSixtyToOne #2 Posted February 28 (edited) Marksburg Castle is a must see. The spectacular view high above the Rhine in the Viking commercials is from that vantage point. IMO the Fortress tour is offered as an alternative for those with mobility issues. We have been to both. Edited February 28 by OneSixtyToOne
notamermaid #3 Posted March 1 (edited) If you like castles, old stones and stuff, then Marksburg is the place to see. Ehrenbreitstein is great for the view but is not really Medieval, more 19th century fortress (with museum) - admittedly some parts of it are old. I know them both well from land travels and would rate Marksburg higher in appeal for those not familiar with the area. notamermaid Edited March 1 by notamermaid Added information

notamermaid #6 Posted March 6 Thanks, OneSixtyToOne. I have never seen the castle from that angle. Here is the castle from the other side, and some interior photos: https://www.marksburg.de/en/ cheeruson, I am sure you have made the right choice. Enjoy. notamermaid
