Jewel ran aground? Fire in lifeboats?

On the roll call for our cruise boarding today out of Singapore someone reported that the Jewel ran aground, people were injured, a lifeboat caught fire and there was unexpected tendering.  The report came on another forum from someone on the ship.  So far NCL has not informed me of any changes so we are headed to the docks as usual.  Any new or confirming info would be greatly appreciated.

ONE HOUR ago, I heard from the Food and Beverage Director on The Jewel.  He said "we are just docking in Singapore" did not say anything about any problems.

He sent me a note to tell me that a Beverage Manger on medical leave had died.

I didn’t read the post but I was on board. The medical evac patient died as we were informed at the b2b party. Was a bit surreal along the line: btw because people asked the person evacuated died. And now enjoy the music and drinks.

Fire on the promenade deck near or in the life boat was extinguished really quick and no damage visible after they reopened the promenade deck. Yeah we had a complete stop after leaving Semarang and the azipods were turned sideways without us moving a bit. Tug came and gave us a very minimal push if at all. But as a common theme no communication on this cruise about what exactly happened.

Worst thing though the first time ever that I experienced that no individual guests were allowed into tenders for nearly two hours as shore excursions had absolute priority. Maybe Haven got escorted but platinum up were only announced and afaik strictly enforced after nearly two hours. Made us miss a couple of spots in Bali on our tour. Absolute no go and will absolutely remember that for other more unique itineraries like the spirit to South Africa.

Saw a posting on a Social media site from someone currently on board, they say their was a minor fire.

I have a friend currently on board and they are not reporting anything except that she and her SMU gal friends are have a wonderful time.

That has happened to us twice.  Someone on board has died and it has been announced how sad everyone is.  Brief pause.  Now we get on with our cruise.

I understand that the ship cannot suddenly deck out in black and people cannot change what has happened and  do just get on with their lives, but if you really process it,  it does seem somewhat surreal.

I was on the Jewel for this cruise. The fire was actually an electrical fault that was quickly fixed, no problems. Tendering is always a problem in Bali as it is a half hour trip from the ship to the shore as the area is very shallow and the tenders have to go through specific channels, plus the ship has to drop anchor a fair way off shore. I had a wonderful cruise with no problems. The ship also informed us that tendering would be slow. I just went upstairs and waited until the tender for Platinum Plus was called as instructed to do so by the CD. I was on a private tour and was able to meet at the required time as the operator suggested not to start too early. It was an overnight so we didn’t have to rush to get back. This is the third time I have visited Bali on a cruise and it’s always the same situation. Yorkeys Knob Cairns also has issues as 2,000 people all returning at a similar time logistically all can’t get on the same tender. I just went and sat in the yacht club with many other cruisers and waited until the line decreased. The shore ex guy came in and informed us what tender to get on. No waiting in line for me. There were a few medical problems onboard, plus one of the gymnasts sustained an injury in training and was also evacuated in Semerang. Longer cruises generally attract an older crowd so the probability of medical issues increases. One TA I did had 5 fatalities. I had a great time on the 19 day cruise, however some people do like to whinge and overdramatize situations. This seems to be common on many cruises. The crew onboard were excellent, we had lots of variety with the entertainment onboard and most passengers I met and spent time with had a great time and enjoyed the many ports and experiences we had.
