Needing Hotel Suggestions For San Juan

Decanter Hotel is also a nice place to stay. We had a 1 bedroom and it has a living room, small dining and kitchen. Very nice place with roof top terrace and also an interior terrace that has a roof that can be opened or closed if raining.

For those asking about shuttle...I've never seen any of the hotels to offer this. Use Uber (cheaper than a taxi) if you can.

From OSJ it's less than $10 using Uber. (Lyft is not there yet).

We just stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in the Condado area for one night post-cruise.  Loved it, although they are not directly on the beach.  They will shuttle you in a golf cart the two or three blocks to the beach and come back and get you when you are ready.  They have an attendant at the beach to get you chairs and towels that are ready and waiting for you.  And you can even order food through him from the hotel to be delivered on the beach.  They have a nice pool and a restaurant right there on property.  Also, Silk, Sushi and Asian restaurant, is just a short walk next door.  Great food.  We had a room on the verandah, with sliding glass doors that lead right out to a patio with tables and chairs, and down to the pool area.  Very nice hotel and reasonable.  Would def stay there again.

We stayed at the Best Western in Condado in February and are staying again next year. It was a very basic hotel, but the price was outstanding (less than $200/night for a Saturday in February).

There is a CVS across one street and a Walgreens across the other. There is a restaurant in the hotel (Ropa Vieja Grill) and many, many more within a very short walk. The walk to the beach is short and easy and they also had a spot with chairs.

The taxi to the port the next morning was reasonable and easy to get.

If you are just spending the night before your cruise (as opposed to wanting to see the sights), this is a great choice.

I got the Embassy suites for a little less than $200a night in March which I feel is a pretty solid deal
We stayed at the Embassy Suites and Casino last August. The hotel was still under construction however everything we wanted was available. The rooms were clean and service was great. Outback Steakhouse was really good, much better than the ones we have visited in AZ.

I think you got a good rate. We had a two bedroom two bathroom suite for around $350.00

Just booked El Canaria by the Lagoon in the Condado area for next January (there is more than one Canario hotel). I went to their website & then used a coupon code from their Facebook page - ended up being $112 with all taxes included. We stayed there last year & it was fine (but not at all fancy!) & includes a simple breakfast too. It’s a couple blocks to walk to the beach, CVS, Walgreens & about any restaurant you want.

Someone previously posted that there are no hotel shuttles from airport...guessing Embassy Suites doesn't have free shuttles? or do they?  I tried calling ES today and no one's picking up the phone.  We googled the distance from the airport to ES...900 meters...but doesn't show a walking path.  Taxi is only $12...but I can easily walk 900 meters. 😊

Is there a way to walk from the airport to ES?

I am interested in getting a note prior to my cruise.  How do I find out what port my ship leaves from?  Headed out of San Juan on the NCL Epic.  March 1 2020.

NCL sails out of the Old Town port...right across the street from the Old Town Sheraton.

No.

NCL uses Old San Juan for ships making port calls. NCL cruises originating in San Juan use Pan American cruise terminal. Plus some months back NCL said they were going to renovate Navy Frontier to use it for their larger ships as well as also making improvements to the East Pan American Pier.

Do not book at Intercontinental they are undergoing  a “surprise” renovation apparently.

Our booking for Sept is being reassigned by Booking .com although they did not bother to notify all of their agencies.  IE American Airlines 🙁

Just booked a Superior Suite in Hotel Casablanca for April 10, 2020.  Taking our granddaughters on their first cruise.  Price was better than 2 queens.  After all the reviews and having seen the hotel when we last were in OSJ we felt we couldn't wait and risk losing what we wanted.  In our humble opinion the location is perfect for seeing OSJ.  And our front desk contact, Miguel, is a star.  I know it's a year away but we'll report back regardless.

Did you book direct through their website? Or use one of the "other" sites available? Just curious. We're headed out in Dec 2020 but it appears on the website they'll take the reservation already!

Hi Nate.  We did book through their site.  A golf buddy has started a TA and I transferred this cruise to him as a test.  I told him where we wanted to stay and he immediately tried to talk us into a B2B and a couple of places in Condado.  He's a friend but he doesn't listen.  Anyway, if you want to be creative talk to Miguel.  He went above and beyond even though we booked a year out. Initially, the front desk said the suite was limited to 4.  We have 5 but the configuration was a king and 2 twins as well as a couch.  When I chatted with Miguel he agreed 5 is not a problem.  So we maybe pay an extra $20 a night. Big deal.  If you read review on Tripadvisor, Miguel really is the man.

Thanks!

We'd love to stay here, but as we're 6 we'll be needing two rooms. I'm a little hesitant to book so far out (Dec 2020) but the goal is to stay here a couple nights so we can see Old San Juan also. I'm led to believe most of it is walkable from this location!

As far as location goes I don't think you can do much better in OSJ.  Everything is within walking distance or if you prefer the HOHO stops at the front door.  I'll put a note in my calendar to drop you a note when we get back in April.
